  1. HI I use a roaster and the only tip I have is to cut your slab of wax into smaller pieces. OH and check the temp. these things are not real accutate. I have to set mine at 230 to get wax that is 200. Personally I love mine I put 2 slabs of wax in it at a time. It does take awhile to melt the first time. However, after you have melted it once. The remelt goes fairly quick. Goood Luck, Tammy
  2. Darn, I was so hoping I was on to something and at the same time knew I probably wasn't. Had FP been an indicatior I am sure someone would have figured it long ago. Thanks for the imput!
  3. Hi I have been thinking and wondering lately about flash points. I am by no means a science expert .... but I have been wanting to know if anyone sees a corrilation between flashpoint and wicking. For example Cinnamon Sticks has a FP of >200 and I use a bigger wick and then Fantasy is very light and only has FP of 170 and I wick down. Are these just a coincidence or is this a guide that I can use when having trouble. Or maybe I am just crazy all together and way tired. Just looking for input and thoughts. TIA
  4. Thanks for the feedback - I read a lot of positive info about these wicks and wanted to try them. Just had to get the view of all the candletech experts! Thanks
  5. Hi I have a sample pack on its way of ecowicks. Before I get started testing I was hoping for some feed back from anyone how has used these wicks or tested and didn't use them. What did you like/dislike and why. Thanks Tammy
  6. Misty, I use joywax also and used to mix half and half. Here is what I am doing now. I don't know the exact % ratio but my formula is 2 1/2 cups melted joywax with 1/2 cup melted soy wax plus FO. It seems if I heat the fO just enough to see the oil start moving around - I get considerable less frosting. Also I am stirring the heck out of it. Hope it works for you. Take Care, Tammy
  7. Thanks for the setting me straight on the testing. I see everyones point. I tested all the others I sell and this one needs tested too. Stayed up late last night and I think I have it figured out! Thanks Again -Tam
  8. Just wanted to share this helpful chart I found http://www.greatcandle.com/wick%20page.htm
  9. Obviosly I do not want to drag this on but I did want to clarify so everyone here does not think I am a complete idot. My big order is for a jar size that I know how to do. I only need to make one of the Big Mason's. And you know there is a lot to be said for hindsight - I totally agree that I should have realized I was not in a position to take on something new this week. Thanks Again for the help, Tammy
  10. Thank you to everyone who replied to my post about wicking mason jars. I am very sorry if I offended anyone. I am in no way trying to sneak around learning and firguring out my own thing. I guess I am just feeling overwhelmed from having such a big order to fill this week. Once again I very much appreciate all the wonderful knowledge I get here and am very sorry if I have stepped on any toes. Thanks Tammy
  11. Hi I have a customer that would like the pint wide mouth mason jar. I am usually do 1/2 pints and have no idea how to wick it and don't really understand when to wick up. My Htp 83 work well but I noticed that with dark colors I need to go up - does that make sense??? Should I use the Htp 104 or 1212 - I have about 200 candles to make this week and just don't have lots of time to test. BTW I use Joywax with a little extra soy in it. I appreciate everyone's help. This board is very educational to a beginer like me. Tammy
  12. Hi I want to try wide mouth pint mason jars. (currently do 1/2 pints with an htp83) Should I use one wick or two? And what size. I only have the 83 and don't know what to order. Would like to stay with HTPs and I use Joy wax. By the way they measure 3 inches across. Thanks so much! Tammy
  13. Hi I am trying to figure out this new Fo I got. It is Amish Friendship Bread from NG. It is really light and at 1oz pp and even 1.5pp I can't smell it. I am doing a half pint JJ with Htp 83. Will changing the wick help? I am not sure I understand all the wicking up and down for different sents. Thanks, Tammy
  14. Ok so I am kind of new to the candle making thing and I am going nuts. I started with Joy wax and had lots of problems with tunnels and holes. Used zinc wicks and had good scent throw. Tried all soy (also from NG) but didn't have good cold scent. Next tried half joy half soy with hemp wicks (didn't like the zinc thing) But my cold scent wasn't good. Per NG I heated and mixed poured per the joy directions. Last few days I have went back to just the joy with htp 83 (I am using half pint mason's) but now I feel like there is no scent at all hot or cold _ am I immune to scent? But no one else can smell them either. Can someone please tell me what the heck is wrong? Do joy candles need to cure even though NG says they don't and how do you get the most cold/hot throw scent from soy. BTW I am doing 1 ounce pp Thanks Tammy
