  1. i'm wondering what everyone thinks about michael's microwavable soy wax. i thought microwaving was a big no no! it was 4.99 for 1 lb. i didnt buy it because i know there are tons of great online sources to order from, but i figured i'd ask to see what you guys think of it if you've used it. if its good it would sure save on shipping. thanks!
  2. i know this has been posted before but i cant find it in the archives... i'm looking to find a free website to host my candle webpage, but i really dont want to have those annoying banners that some hosts wont let you hide. which do you recommend? i dont plan on selling any time soon, i just want to set up an account, play around, and eventually move to a domain name. thanks! alycia
  3. thanks for all the replies guys! trish, i am in santa clara are you nearby?
  4. i love this site! its so informative and i am enjoying reading the posts in the message boards! so i have some questions for you pillar makers.... for a 3 or 4 inch diameter pillar: 1) what is better to make, a flat top pillar or concave? what is the difference in such tops? does one burn differently than the other? 2) should i use wick pins in the pillars or use the wick holder bar and an actual wick? which is best? 3) what is a good mottling wax to use? i'm looking at peaks waxes beacuse i'm on the west coast but am unsure what to get ... thanks!
  5. So here they are! These are my first votives.... I am proud of them despite the sink holes. They smell great but I am not sure how to avoid these annoying sink holes. I wiggle and straighten the wick after 30-45 mins from the first pour and do the repour after an hour an a half from the first pour. What am i doing wrong? (i'm using paraffin 129) but overall, how do you think i did for my first try? comments and constructive criticisms welcome! the tan is sandlewood, the purple is lavender, and the yello is lemongrass thanks for looking
  6. how soon after you do the repour is it safe to put votives in the fridge to cool quicker? or is it completely a faux pas to even do that? i get anxious and want to speed up the process
  7. Hi! i just made my first votives today and they came out great for the first try! they are yellow with lemongrass fragrance. i got about 10 out of the batch since i had a little more than 1 lb of wax goin in, but the scent isnt diluted or anything since it is so strong so my question is, where do i store my votives until i use them? if i leave them out, besides getting dusty, wont they lose their scent? any cheap ideas how to store? and how do i clean my wooden spoon that i used to mix the wax and fragrance? should i throw it out since the scent is in it now? or is there a good way to clean it? thanks!
  8. hi ducky! thanks for clarifying i believe i got the fragrance oils. on the site and my invoice it doesnt say anything about essential oils, its listed as fragrance. will that make a difference though, if it is one or the other with the scents of the candles? thanks!
  9. Hi! First, I just wanted to say that i really enjoy this message board, and i am really impressed with the photo gallery and seeing what you guys can do! It's really been an inspiration! With that, allow me to ask my question....or questions i ordered a votive candle making kit from cierra candles and got it today. i've spent the last few weeks researching candle making and feel i have a pretty good grasp on it, but i want to make sure i am actually understanding the info correctly, if ya know what i mean, before i start. So i got 1/2 slab CW 129, IGI 4616 blended container wax and i want to make votives (2oz). I only want to make about 8-12 to start so if i mess up i haven't completely wasted my entire kit. so my first question is how much wax is recommended to melt for about 8 -12 votives? and how much FO is required? i have the little 1 oz bottles of different aromatherapy scents. Does one 1oz bottle make only 8 votives? Thanks for reading! I look forward to posting more in the future. Alycia
