  1. I like the colors in the hex bet it smells great and will have a wondeful glow with those colors when burning.....I gotta ask I am assuming the ice candles are considered a novelty candle and not for burning?

You can burn the ice candles....they can be made with a taper candle at the core, you can make your own core...but they can be burned

  2. hey geek...I'm in the process of switching jars...but jelly jars, votive cups, they all have gotten too hot with a variety of wicks that I've tested....always end up with a hot jar even when there is plenty of hang up. I'm switching to tumblers and 1 other style of jar...I'm torn on what I'm choosing though...can't make up my mind to save my life!

  3. So I know that the perfect melt pool is 1/2" or a little less (from what I've read)...now my candles average around 1/4"....anything that gets me even close to 1/2" makes for a too hot container....I have had some candles not throw as well and I'm guessing it's having a shallow melt pool and I burn off the FO too fast...I have yet to find a suitable wick to get closer to that 1/2" without burning my fingers on the glass.....not sure what I'm asking...just posting my frustrating results....

  4. I'm testing both the EL container and the EL millenium container and do not have a problem with "pitting" if I pour at the right temp....if it's not the top I want, I heat gun a little and get very happy tops!

I was kinda hoping it's the fragrance oil as this is the first time I'm using this scent. I'm testing another votive with HTP 83, so far after 1 hour of burning it's lopsided so I'm hoping within the next hour it will have a complete MP.

I'm going to make another batch using one of my usual fragrance oils and try again with HTP 73 and see if that makes a difference.

I'm also testing the EL container wax but I find the finished look has a lot of pitting and bumps on the top as oppose to ECO CB which has a more smooth top.

The only reason I'm considering switching is because EL I can get local whereas ECOSOYA is a week shipping away which of course is more expensive. AH the pros and cons!!:undecided

  5. I don't have my notes with me, but I would think the 73 would be too big from my testing....candlesoylutions is a quiet board right now...I'm a member there as well....if you search through the 20 pages that are available, you'll find a lot of valuable information there on wicking for votives and other jars...just takes a little time to search through

    Good luck!

try sending a message to MrsPacNW over there....she'll email you back!

  6. I think so too, especially those that have a soft beautful label with an elegant font. But I don't think I'd be able to convince my boyfriend of that. Problem is I only use Jelly Jars for the most part and I personally think it's hard to make a Jelly Jar look elegant.

not to create a lovers quarrel....but is he making and pouring the candles as well? or is it just you? what part of the "business" is he doing? If you are the one making the candles, then personally he should support your decision and you make them! My wife and I don't always see eye to eye with this, especially with soy, however she supports me whatever decision I make since I am the one who is making them.

    :D

  7. We order from Bitter Creek (for our heavier weight items - like wax) and some of our FO, from Peak for molds, 1/2 our FO's, wicking, mold putty; and from Fairway Glass for our jars.

I order some things from peaks....am looking at placing an order with Fairway pretty soon here....

  8. Hi Daria and jdbonn....I'm in Monticello...nice to see other minnesotans here!

I recently ordered from the waxhouse which is just a few minutes west of St Cloud. Their wax is reasonably priced....their glass containers are over priced...the owner is really nice!

Maybe we could all mass order together and save on cost and shipping! Shoot me a line sometime

  9. another idea for you......some things to think about when naming your business....this worked for me

What is your goal/dream for your business?

How do you invision your business?

How do you feel about your product?

What do you want others to think about your business?

What type of legacy do you want to leave?

Wrap it all up and your name might come easier....something memorable....a name that will back up your product...your mission....your dream.

May not work for you...but it did for me

  10. I'm with Dove on this one....if there is no contract and your candles get damaged or "disappear," then there is no compensation. You should consider consignment, where the contract states that the store receives a certain percentage of the sale, or the states that they receive a certain dollar amount, or you receive that amount. Wholesaling I believe is when they buy the candle from you at a set price, and then they mark it up....but you are getting paid up front.

Don't do anything without a contract!

    my 2 cents

  11. Ok you caught me I am a perfectionist, disgustingly so (and a bit paranoid too!) And I don't want to add a bunch of additives to my soy wax, so I could learn to live with it (what choice do I have?!) but I don't want to!! Wah!

I'd love to try frosted glass but I can't find a supplier that is affordable enough and close enough to where I live. I think frosted glass is super pretty!

Hey Kelly, www.fancycandlejars.com has good prices on frosted and they are in IL...however they have a lot of out of stocks right now. Otherwise www.candlecocoon.com in Madison, WI has frosted...costs a little more...but maybe close enough to pick up and avoid shipping? HTH

  12. Sometimes if I have a few with major frost problems I zap them in microwave to remelt and when they set back up (watch your wick) they are frost free again!

Interesting you should bring this up...I've been experimenting with this the last couple of days...sort of Tempering the candle in the microwave...They set up beautifully! I had one that was covered in frost, but after I microwaved it and let it set up over night, not a speck of frost on it! I'm trying to eliminate frost all together...making different blends and such...I figure in the end I may have to give in to a few specks...but I'm trying hard not to! Too much of an anal perfectionist here with OCD! :laugh2:

  13. I once was asked when trying to decide on what I wanted to do with my life...stick with the job I had, go after my music career, or what not...I was asked, what do you enjoy doing so much that you'd do it even if you did not receive a paycheck for it?

If you enjoy making candles so much that you'd make them and give them away for free, just to be making them........

Since God has blessed you as you say, then continue to seek Him...asking for wisdom, guidance, and a clear path so that His will would be completed in your life. Pray that if it's not candles, that he would show you a different way and bring the business to a close.....and that candles are what He wants you to be doing, ask Him to continue to grow the business, making it fruitful, and give you a fresh filling of His spirit to continue persevering. Maybe ask Him how you can us the business to bring glory and honor to Him? How you can use your business to help further His Kingdom?

Those are all of the questions I have prayed over and over and continue to pray each week as I struggle through the R & D phase.

    Best wishes and God bless!

  14. I think you did read it wrong. Take it with a positive note, as it was intended.

It meant, if you care enough to think through each and every one of the little details, every bend and turn, every hill and valley and how it effects everyone involved, like she has done, then you do really care about what you do.

    I am Grumpy. Don't forget it. ;)

I'm truly sorry then...I understand what you meant since you explained it...sometimes I have to have things spelled out for me.

Sorry that you're Grumpy....would like to see you be Happy! :highfive:
