  1. Just out of curiosity, OldGlory, what type of wax and container do you use? Also, have you ever double wicked with these premier wicks? I'm curious to try them as well. I use 3022 (70 soy 30 paraffin) . In relation to CD or CDN, I wonder if they burn hotter?
  2. Which wick is the hotter burning wick?
  3. Is that Tennessee candle supply or The candlemakers store? I am having a hard time getting into the Tennessee website....
  4. Anyone compared Southwest Candle and Daystar's leather? In soy blend??
  5. I think southwest bought them. I do love the smell of Southwest's , just trying to get it to have a stronger ht
  6. Hi I love Southwest candle supply's leather. My friend felt that smelled very authentic to her ( she grew up riding horses). Problem is that I find it weaker than she wants. Anyone have other suggestions. I've done Peaks Genuine leather which smells great, but to me, it has a little more sweetness to it. I've also tried Texas Candle and to my nose it has a little citrus. Welcoming any suggestions for a really strong saddle leather (not like a new leather coat smell). I use 70% soy 30% paraffin with cd and cdn wicks.. Thank you!!!
  7. Good to know! I do get a great throw off Peaks red currant. The one I am testing that is giving me problems is Southwest leather. I love this scent, because it smells like a saddle leather instead of like a leather coat. But am wanting to find a stronger leather. Any ideas?
  8. I have done some reading and I am wondering what is everyones favorite jar in order to get an awesome hot throw. I want to keep the diameter about 3 inches, and I dont want to double wick. I was looking at the Libbey vibe, or the balmoral or an apothecary. I use now a straight sided heavy rocks glass. I love the glass because it can go contemporary. But I am second guessing if it hinders the ht. It is a straight sided jar and is there any truth to that having a neck on the jar makes a better ht?
  9. The problem I am having is not sure which throws better. My dilemma is between a CD18 and a CDN16. They are both very similar. The glass size is 3 1/4 diameter. 3022 wax and 9% fo (leather). So my question is when two wicks are so close in performance. What one does one choose? I know CDN is usually hotter, but the CDN 18 did not perform as well as the CDN16. Im thinking the CD18 may have a slight edge with the HT (but not quite sure). So when they are so close what would someone choose who works with this wax?
  10. Just wondering... Between the CD and CDN wicks, which one do you use more while using 3022 wax, with no dye and no additives?
  11. Wow! Thank you so much! Very informative
  12. Thank you all for your help! That really gives me a better idea of what I should be looking for!
  13. I did try eco a few years ago, and I didnt like it..but I cant remember why. I have not tried HTP. Isnt it basically the same as CDs? Thank you for the information. This forum really has been helpful!
  14. The glass I use is Libbey 917cd. 3 1/4" across. I let them go about 4 hours. I have been using CD and CDN wicks with the most success, after trying zinc, lx, premier, rrd, Peak cotton core. I was wondering since this wax has more soy than paraffin, will it never burn straight out but go down? Maybe eventually catching up in the last 1/4 of the glass. I have a feeling that if I do get to start selling candles, will people be questioning whether it is a good candle or not since it achieves the edge to edge FMP after the last 1/4? The HT is real good. Or should I try and let it burn UNTIL it has achieved and edge to edge FMP on the first burn, before blowing it out? Thanks for your help?
  15. After I read many different ways to test burn the candles we have made. I still am trying to figure out the way to really do it. Some say do in increments of the 4 hours. The problem I have is that the wax I have (3022 - 70 soy 30 paraffin) is that it doesnt reach the sides of the glass on the first burn. When I go to candle websites, they seem to frequently say to burn the candle until you get a FMP. Should I be testing it that way, so that I let it burn until it is edge to edge, before doing subsequent burns?
  16. I hear a lot about adding soy to 6006. I am curious, what is the benefit of adding soy. Is it for HT, appearance, adhesion? Also, I love my 3022. But I am melting another wax to compare. I have 3020 (which I think is sort of the same as 6006), and I have 464. I know some like 6006 with 415. I would be willing to try that combination, but I have these other waxes on hand, so I was going to try that first. Do you think these results would be similar to the 6006/415? Finally, I see the difference between 415 and 464 is additives, how do they perform differently? Thank you!
  17. ( this is not my candle, it is from a successful company) this is the pic that I was talking about, Steve. I dont know why I couldnt attach it in the other post, but oh well. I guess this is what I was thinking I should be trying to get when I hear people get a FMP in the first burn. And with the 3022, you find that the CDN is better than the CD. I am not sure what steric candles are, but I am gathering that the 3022 is more like that? So in that case CDN work better?
  18. The HT isnt where I would like, but it is definitely better with this 3022. Thanks for the clarification ..I keep thinking that a FMP is clean sides, no hangup. I thought it would have to be translucent when it was a FMP. It so confusing, because when I watch videos of high end fragrance stores that are talking about the candles they carry. They say things like.."we dont accept candles that dont have a clean burn. Meaning that it has reached all sides of the glass and it cleaned the sides." But when that happens wont the glass get too hot as it burns down? This is a picture of what I am picturing what I should be striving for near the first burn?? ugh I cant post the picture. Can I pm you and post it there?
  19. I'm back to the 3022. I love this wax and the depth that it has, but I am still struggling getting a FMP unless it goes over 6 hours!!! Steve, you mentioned you use this wax.. I am curious to you add any additives? I see that you get a FMP in 20 minutes. Is that on the first burn? Or as it gets further down the glass? Tonight I heated it to 190 and stirred and poured about 170. I am doing 10% FO (southwest leather).. Which I found out has some vanilla in it.. So I imagine it is pretty heavy. I just tried another wax (more paraffin) and I did get a FMP at 5.5 hours. ( on the first burn) but there was no HT and I used 6%. My jar is 3.25 diameter. I see yours is a bit larger and I am so envious that u get a FMP in 20 minutes! What am I doing wrong??? You would think I should be using something smaller than a cd18 since my jar is smaller, right? Ugh.... Any help, I would appreciate.
  20. Hi, Curious if anyone has tried this wax. It is a 70% paraffin and 30% soy. Sounded interesting and wanted to know if anyone has tried it. Thanks
  21. That makes sense. That bottom of the glass is extra thick. How can that retain the heat at the same temperature as the sides of the glass?? I tried putting it in the oven at 150 degrees, but it happened again. Is this bottom cooling too fast? Any other suggestions??
  22. Thanks so much ! Haven't tried the HTP before, guess that is next on my list!
