I saw reverse applique sweatshirts on Etsy and they were so pretty but I couldn't afford them. So I thought I'd try making my own. Here are my first two tries:

Does anyone make these? I'm rather nervous about washing them as I'm afraid they'll unravel.

Darbla, you can make the coffee filter look attractive but pasting a round label on it, just like in the BBW example Bugtussle mentioned.

Jola, the "original" salt bar recipe calls for the same weight of salt as the oils. But I have used anything from 50% to 100% the weight of oils for the salt. You'll just have to experiment to see what you like best.

Jola, if you don't have avocado, you can just substitute it with more coconut. Salt bars are best when high in coconut oil. Coconut oil provides more lather and you do need more lather because the salt cuts down on the lather.

For my salt bars I don't use a substitute value for coconut (if that helps).

Vicky, yes I did use a pattern. It was actually 2 patterns, one for a drawstring bag and one for a cushion cover. I used the bag's general pattern and then used the design of the cushion cover.

The patterns are from the book The Ultimate Quilting and Patchwork Companion by Isabel Stanley and Jenny Watson, which I borrowed from the library.

This bag is for me, but I'll be making a few more to use as gifts.

I like peppermint (either as an anchor or simply as part of the blend) in a gardener's soap because the scent reminds me of the garden.

I have these molds too. Like Meridith said, it does get better (seasoned) after using several times. Meanwhile, you can grease them first and also put in the fridge or freezer and then run hot water over the bottom to help with release. I use them for CP.

I saw bacon when I was browsing through Candlechem.com. Never tried it though.

Darbla, the patchouli which shot sky high is the essential oil, not the fragrance oil. The fragrance oil would be priced similar to other fragrance oils. They do not vary so much in price like essential oils whose prices can differ vastly due to how they are obtained.

I think what happened is, they take the picture, and then crop off the edges leaving only the soap. So then when the soap takes up the whole picture, it makes it look bigger than it really is. The camera is probably held pretty close to the soap as well, again making it look bigger. It is like if you take a picture of someone and stand real close and only get their face in the picture. Their face will look very big but it is still a normal sized person's face.

Nice soap! I believe this does count as science project. Because I remember learning to take measurements during science class many years ago in school.

No, $3-4 a case isn't drastic. Didn't the price per case go up something like $30 or $40 over the summer. So hopefully we'll see a more substantial decrease soon.
