  1. The same thing. I only use it so I can increase the scent some. I still don't use much fo.
  2. Hi guys! I can never seem to get a rustic to come out properly. I'm using 1343A wax, adding 1/2 teaspoon vybar 103, 3 Tablespoons Stearic and .75oz. of FO per pound of wax (also a touch of UV and couple drop of liquid color). I'm in a 67 degree room so the aluminum mold is fairly cool to the touch and I pour at 145 degrees. I pour the first few ounces and splash it around, wait a several moments and then quickly fill the mold the rest of the way. When I remove the candle from the mold, it's only rustic on the top inch or so, then the rest of the candle is smooth and solid. The closest I've ever come to making a fully rustic candle is if I freeze the mold first, but then they come out more frosted than rustic. What am I doing wrong? TIA, ~RF~
  3. Thanks for the info Donita! Where do you get your tacky wax? Do you use the 835?
  4. Very nice! I have some questions though.... How do you do the decorating of flowers? Can you give us some more specific instructions on that part? Where do you get the flowers? Do you flatten (press) them yourself, or do you buy them that way? How do you attach them to the wax? Thanks so much. I love all your stuff!
  5. Thanks to everyone for their advice. Sounds like my wick size is definately the problem. I'll have to order some more wicking and give it go. I think I'll order from Greenleaf this time.... Brenda's the greatest, isn't she? I'm going to give her FO's a go too!
  6. I can try wicking up on my pillars, but can't wick up on my containers. I'm using the biggest wick I can find. I'd have to double wick, which I really really don't want to do. I'm sure I mixed them long enough to incorporte. Isn't a couple minutes enough? Oh... and I used .75 of an ounce per pound.
  7. Sorry. By that I meant a small weak flame and small melt pool.
  8. Ok, thanks. I'll also put the info here in case others would like to jump in. I'm using IGI 1274 wax for my 3 inch pillars using 24 ply wick. I'm using CB-30 container wax for my 16oz. Apothecary Jars and would like to single wick if at all possible. I have the following wicks for my jars: HTP-1212 LX-30 62-52-18-Z Also... Is Buttercream also very heavy and hard to wick like Vanilla is? What about other Vanillas like; Lavender Vanilla, Vanilla Passion etc...? TIA! ~RF~
  9. Hi guys! Does anyone know where I can get a good quality vanilla fo that doesn't clog the wick? They burn terribly no matter which wick I use. I'll be using different kinds of wax like; 1274 pillar wax and cb30 container wax. So far I have had no luck. Please help!
  10. Oh ya.... My mottling wax is 1274 which is why I don't add stearic. It will ruin the mottle effect. I also have Peak 140 straight parafin, which is suppose to be a mottle wax, but doesn't mottle well which is why they don't offer it anymore. I've been using that for regular and rustic candles. I do add stearic to that, but still no luck. Perhaps I'm not using enough? I "think" my wick is fine. My melt pool looks perfect IMO, but I'm also new at making pillars. I make a great container though!
  11. How do I get my pillars to stop bulging around the melt pool? I want them to curve inward at the top, but not bulge below that. My wick and melt pool are fine and I don't get blow outs, but they bulge terribley! Does adding vybar or UA help with this? If so... what can I do to stop a mottled candle from bulging? I've added vybar (the one safe for mottles, can't think of the number at the moment) but doesn't seem to help with bulging. Any help? TIA ~RF~
  12. THANK YOU! Been searching with no luck. Can't seem to find a smaller 4 sided pyramid tho. I'll check with Pourtte! EDIT: Nope, Pourette doesn't have them. They have several types of pyramids but not what I'm looking for. They do have a smaller 4 sided one, but it's longer than it is wide. I would like to find one that is the same exact shape as the 2 lb one - 4 equal sides at half the size. I didn't think it would be that hard to find. If anyone knows of one, please let me know, ok? Thanks!
  13. Does anyone know how much wax is used in a 6 x 4.5 - 4 sided pryamid mold? I don't see a calculater for that. Also do you know of a place that has this mold AND a smaller version? I know Peak carries the 6 x 4.5 but aren't there smaller ones out there? TIA ~RF~
  14. What's the diff between Vybar 103 and Universal Additive? Don't they both do the same thing? It seems that UA would be more difficult to use since you have to melt seperately before adding to the wax, or reach 184 or higher. Are there any other differences? TIA ~RF~
  15. Hi Guys! I have a neighbor that wants to order some pillar candles from me. So far I've just been making them for myself and family etc... So what do you guys charge for a : 3" x 3.5" Pillar ? 3" x 6.5" Pillar ? 3" x 9.5" Pillar ? Also... do you charge different prices on whether it's a Mottle, Rustic, Smooth or Multi Colored etc...? Also pricing on: 15oz. Apoth Jar 6 oz. Tin 2 oz. Votives 1 oz. Tart TIA! ~RF~
  16. Excellent Jane! I was thinking of doing that. Peak truely has some of the best FO's ever, but like I said in my first post, they just don't have that many. It seems they come up with a new one every so often. That's why I was asking about other companies that had larger selections, but still had great quality oils. Thanks for going to the trouble of making your list. It's very helpful to me.
  17. Thanks so much! That's just want I needed! Thanks to everyone else too. I just love this board and the peeps here. You're the best!
  18. Thanks for the huge response guys! Although some of your intitials have me stumped! Would anyone care to make a legend for me? BC= what? SOS= what? etc etc etc...
  19. I'm a huge fan of Peak's FO's. The quality and hot and cold throw of their oils is the best, but they are limited to the amount of oils to choose from. I wish they had SOOOO many more! In your opinion, what are your 3 top companies that you purchase FO's from that have a similar quality of oil, at good prices? Also.... why do so many people have poor opinions of Wellington? I haven't tried them, but no one seems to care for their oils, based on what I've read in the past. Thanks you guys!
  20. Does everyone recommend Seamless Glass Jars for their candles? I've had the pressed ones (with the seam) in the past, and have had no problems with them. They also seem easier to find and somewhat less expensive. Just wondering if it's safer to have seamless? What are you experiences/opinions? Anyone know of site with 16oz. Apothecary or Elevation Jars at a good price? Many seem to be sold out. Say... $1.50 to $1.75 per jar INCLUDING the lid? TIA! P.S. Hope you all had a Great Holiday!
  21. Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking.... Hmm? Has anyone tried this?
  22. Why can't a mottling pillar wax be used in say.... an apothecary jar? Will it break? Will it tunnel? How come?
  23. Thanks for all your kind words everyone! And Shawnee... I like the screen name too. I really miss Phoebe
