1. Well turns out Spokane, WA is not good area to sell candles. So. For the time being I am retiring from the candle world but hate to see all my supplies go to waste. Anyone here interested in buying them or have any ideas how I could sell them. I already have an ad on Craig's List. I have over $500 worth of supplies.
2. Love these jars 25414[/ATTACH
3. does anyone do it? I am using 4630 and Peak's pink sugar in a 8 oz status jar
4. Trying a new concept. I have a #2 square braid in one of my containers. Testing it as soon as I get home. Oh yea its 4630 and Peak's Pink sugar.
5. have you ever trimmed your candles to less than a 1/4/ I have mine trimmed to 1/8 or so for testing purposes just to see. So far the candle burns reat and smooth
6. But Lonestar is out of the ones I need. Where do some of you get yours
7. I love them! My old ones were so........ 3 years ago. LOL
8. I love CD wicks and trim mine as well. I have never worked with zinc so I can't compare but CDs seem to do well in all my candles.
9. I actually love seeing candles ike this. This is what makes hand poured candles so appealing to customers out there! because we actually take the time to center our wicks, and test our candles before we sell them to ensure good burning behavior. I get comments all the time about when a customer sees my candle it looks better than a manufactured candle. And when customers take their candle home and burn it they see the difference.
10. OK I came to an executive decision that Marble containers are more trouble than they are worth. it sucks because I know what I wanted. But between keeping an eye on pouring temps, and pouring at just the right time, making sure I don't get tiny air bubbles as I pour.... it's just not worth it. Oh well. It was worth a try. I may try down the road with a different wax but 4630 is not a good choice. IMO. RIP marble containers, RIP. LOL
11. Moonshine. I poured my non-colored wax and a slightly more slushy stage than I poured the dyed wax. I also alternated the pours just slight. I love the way my candle looks. I posted pics in the gallery. I am still going to tweek my method a little but I think it turned out good.
12. YES! Thank you Beli. That was exactly what I was looking for! Now that will match my marble pillars.
13. This is the look I am wanting but not sure it's achievable in a container. Of course this is a pillar I did but this was easy. I tried again this morning by pour undyed wax in to a container, then as it set up swirled it with a skewer with a very small amount of dye. I ended up with a mess! Frustrating. I didn't think about pouring to colors, maybe a white and a solid color. Will try that here in a bit and hopefully post good result. 25234[/ATTACH
14. I am still on a quest to get a marble container look from 4630. I tried the poking holes and using toothpicks to apply dye then use a heat gun. I didn't like that look at all. It's frustrating because I know the look I want I just can't seem to invent the technique to get it.
15. So i found a website that has candle labels ( Thank you Houston Candle ) where I don't have to do much to design my labels.... very nice. Are there any other websites that let you design your label online? 1.17 per label isn't too bad of a price but I am always looking for better prices!
16. I use a fork as well. I use 1343 though and as hard as I may try, I still end up with some clumps. That's why the majority of dipping plush out there in light colored. franu is right, try adding some dye. And fluff the heck out of the bear
17. The green & pink is Cucumber Melon White & brown is Marshmallow Chocolate Brownie (my own scent) blue and white is Ocean Mist Also did a peaches & cream but it's still cooling
18. Yes the over pour is 4630. My second love ( no one tell my DH LOL) the chunks were made of 1250 & 1343. I use a blend of both of those so the chunks melt easier during a burn. The pink one is AccuBlend Soy.
19. these actually made me happy and brightened up my morning.... the pink in Peak's Pink Sugar, CD8. I have not clipped the wick after the burn. the blue one is my Ocean Mist Chunk. Again have not trimmed wicks to show true results. Both were 4 hour burns. Now that's what I'm talking about..... As you can see no shrooms or soot
20. OK all morning long I have been on mission to create a cool looking marble container with 4630.... I looked online and tried a couple of techniques I found but both SUCKED! So I am taking a much needed break. Luckily I have only used 1/2 of wax. I'm thinking I'm not gonna get my marble look I'm visioning in my mind. So now I'm sitting here, drinking coffee and eating left over roast for breakfast while I watch DWTS! LOL
21. That is the whole purpose I look for things that out of the norm... like a candle that soots from the time it is lit to the time it's extinguished, absolutely no scent throw or a bad smell, tunneling, no complete wax consumption. Things like that. Because I know if I follow good burning tips as I test and none of these appear my candle will burn great if the customer does the same. The woman is correct. We can only do so much. For example... just for experimental purposes I once burned a candle lazily. I didn't trim the wick and burned the thing all day (almost 9 hours). I moved it by the window to get a draft, etc. I did it with one of my soy candles and one paraffin. The results were bad soot on BOTH jars... big ol' nasty mushrooms, and the jars were very hot, enough to burn my skin. And with the soy, it had a nasty smoked burnt popcorn smell. GROSS! So now I know what's going to happen if my customers do the same. When someone buys a candle from me I include a safe burning tips sheet that has "To Get The best Burning Results" in big bold letters at the top, with the candle. Now... they may just glance it over, they may not even look at it and toss it is the trash or they may choose to read it and follow them. That's not my responsibility. I did my part by testing the candle, tweeking it if need be and including the sheet. If someone comes back with a complaint of a bad candle I can usually tell if it was from poor burning and I will offer to replace the same exact candle. But I think I have only had 2 complaints since I began in 2007
