  1. this is what cajun candles says about cd wicks: "The Heinz Stabilo wicks are a German made all natural, coreless, non-directional, flat braided wicks with a special paper filament woven around them. They are formally known as CD wicks. This configuration is engineered to promote maximum and consistent capillary action while ensuring a self trimming wick that will hold the posture of the flame. The Stabilo series is used in many different applications and is especially compatible with the harder-to-melt viscous waxes of both paraffin, soy and vegetable base." I have to trim mine but not very much. and they do hold the posture.
  2. I didn't know CD wicks are self trimming. How did I not know that?
  3. OK I wanted to try dipped bears so I bought some 1250, and a bear. I dipped him and started fluffing but all I am getting is an nasty looking bear who looks like he has clumps of white dandruff in his fur? Why does it seem it is easy for everyone but me
  4. OK I wanted to try making dipped bears. I got a bear and dipped him in 1250 wax. I tried brushing him out but ll I see are white chunks of wax making it look like he has a bad case of dandruff. Why does this seem so easy for everyone else but me?
  5. I was talking to a woman in my town who has her own candle shop and told her that if and when I do sell my candles my worry is when someone buys one and goes home to burn it the darn thing will burn horribly. The woman said she has been doing this for almost 15 years and that with all her testing and attempting to achieve the perfect candle, unless the customer follows the general candle burning guidelines, (trim wicks, 4 hour burns and so on) they will end up with a horrible candle. She said we as chandlers can only do our part. I guess what I am asking is when you all sell your candles, do you ever worry that your candle will burn bad once they get it home or because you've done all you can once it;s out of site it's out of mind?
  6. I was just wondering I see all these posts about tarts, can they be made with container wax?
  7. So basically the flame has a mind of it's own and as long as the candle isn't smoking, or the flame isn't 3" high, and the jar isn't black it should be ok? I don't know why I am stressing on the flame so much because otherwise the candle is burning great.
  8. Hmmm. I guess some prefer to and others don't. Someone on here also told me to lightly tap my jar on the table after pouring or tap the jar lightly to "burp" up any air pockets. I guess it all comes down to personal preference?
  9. Is that a shroom at the end of the wick? Kind of looks like it but I can't tell
  10. what about with soy containers? Is it just safe than sorry to do it regardless of wax type?
  11. Do you always poke relief holes with your candles? I was testing a candle I did not and sure enough it had a air pocket in it and the wick went out.
  12. Thanks everyone. I was worried. I thought I did something wrong. Sparky- Please post pics of your test burn soon.
  13. I recently tested a new fragrance with soy. The first two hours it burned great but I notice as the candle burned more in to where the jar gets wider the flame danced around a little. Not much, If I wasn't a picky candle maker I probably wouldn't even notice. There was no soot and no mushrooming. I read somewhere else that a lilttle bit of "throbbing" or "dancing" is ok At first. That the time to worry is if it is constant and soot and shrooms appear. Should I worry?
  14. Happy for you. Post pics soon,. I wish I was happy with my latest test burn.
