Making Lotions

Hey Everyone,

I am not new to candle making been making them for a while now and love it. Sales r slow.

But want to venture out to the lotion making department.

I bought a soy base kit, it came with 12 bottles and 1 gallon base.

My question is: I know to make the whole gallon one scent you use 1/2 ounce of F/O. But 3 scents came with it and the bottles are 4 oz.

Now to do the 4 oz bottles I would need 10-15 drops F/O,

how do u measure the lotion? Do u use a scale or measuring cup?

I weigh everything in weight, not volume. Much more easier on my sanity that way... and accurate. So in answer to your question, a scale would be best.

What about half filling a bottle with base then add F/O then add lotion to the top and shake very well.

It's easier to use a zip lock bag to mix the base & FO, then cut a corner and squeeze into the bottle.

Shaking the bottle won't do a good enough job incorporating the FO throughout the base.

I must agree, the ziplocs (premium ones, the cheap ones...not so good...) are the way to go. A pump for the gallon bottle makes mixing, weighing, scenting and coloring lotions a breeze!

I tried the half bottle and F/O then lotion on top and shake.

It worked well. But then I decided to put drops between more layers like layering it and seems fine.

But down the road may get a beaker and mix everything.
