Sherl
Was in WalMart yesterday and checked in the drain cleaner section and noticed that Drano has a [new] cleaner that says on the back it contains sodium hydroxide. If there was any other ingrediants, would they not be listed?? Anybody else notice or know anything about this product??
sudsnwicks
As far as I know, Drano has always contained lye. But lye isn't the only ingredient, and you need something that is 100% lye for your soap to work.
Carol M
Sodium Hydroxide may be the only "active" ingredient, but it is more than likely dispersed in a carrier. That would make it impossible to measure accurately for soapmaking (you wouldn't know the concentration). Plus, the carrier substance may be unsuitable for soap. RobinInOR
Drano has aluminum salts and other stuff besides sodium hydroxide. Not good for soap. I've heard of one other brand besides Red Devil - Roebic I think it was? At Lowes..
TerriWV
I got the Roebic at Lowe's it was $7.66 for a 2# container.
