boobiepiebaby
i'm using natural wax c-3, i've poured my wax and it's four hours into the drying stage. i've noticed that around the wick, the wax as kinda collected around the wick and broke apart from the candle. how do i fix that? any tips? becky0404
Yeah, that's normal. When it's completely set, just take a hair dryer and blow warm air on the top of the candle....melting just the top a little until it's even.
Stella1952
Yep, it happens with many candles. A heat gun will do the trick. A hair dryer will work but be sure you set it to the lowest "blow" setting...
heidijo
I usually gently smooth the wax out wih my fingertips. I haven't had success with smoothing tops with my heat gun.

homecomfort
Why haven't you had success smoothing the tops with your heat gun?sorry not Heidijo but I can tell you my bad experience with using the heat gun - anytime I use a heat gun on the tops of my soy container candles, they frost terribly. Stella1952
I just don't think the heatgunning ends up with that babybu**-smooth surface I get when things go perfectly... I, too, smooth out teensy imperfections with my finger.
heidijo
I get a weird texture, cracked tops, or frosting.
becky0404
I don't color my candles, so I had no idea using a heat gun (hair dryer) on the tops would cause frosting. Sorry for giving wrong information:embarasse .In my soy candles, I don't ever have to do anything to the tops. they come up creamy smooth on top every time. I just have to wait until slushy before I pour and that seems to do the trick. Every wax is different though, and I don't use that wax, I use EZSoy. Sorry for giving wrong information:embarasseHeatgunning doesn't ALWAYS increase frosting, so you didn't speak wrong... Even though we use NatureWax C-3 (EZsoy was a nightmare for us), sometimes heatgunning causes frosting and sometimes it doesn't. It depends upon the dye and FO used as well as the temperature poured, how much of the top becomes liquid during the heatgunning, etc. If tops don't suit one, heatgunning is a viable method of correcting the flaws. If one finds that it causes frosting, find another way to get those smooth tops.
