Ramaroa
If you UK ladies are searching for 'Candy' Thermometers, you're possibly searching for the wrong thing. You need to look for a sugar, or confectionery thermometer, or try anywhere that has Jam Making equipment. I would think Lakeland Plastics must have them. A quick search came up with these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mastrad-Meat-Maestro-Digital-Thermometer/dp/B00008S0UI]http://thecookskitchen.com/browse_10577http://www.cakecraftshop.co.uk/shop/2/360/index.htmThere's plenty more if you hunt around. SatinDucky
It only takes a minute or two for my digital thermometer to get a good reading. I don't hold it though, unless it's a large pot with just a small amount of wax left in it. I use a wooden school ruler. The kind with the 3 holes in the middle. Lay it across the top of the pot and stick the thermometer through the center hole.Like this...
judyvega
You know, I bought one digital thermometer, and that sucker doesn't work at all - it just flickers and goes crazy.
Blueroc85
Your broken thermometer predicament gave me an idea! I have this digital thermometer that I use for grilling. It is made for use in meat;it beeps when it gets to the set temperature for a specific meat's doneness. I think I can use it for candle wax, though (haven't tried it as of yet). Why I wanted to tell everyone about it is because the probe is attatched to a long (over a foot) metal cord that hooks into the main unit. This will enable the probe to reach the desired depth in you melting pot. You can also change the temperature from Farenheit to Celcius. It also comes with a remote unit you can carry with you (great for grillin, but you probably don't need it for candles as you have to stay nearby) up to 100 ft away from the base unit. The one I have is made by Maverick and the main downside is it is pricey at $40.00 (I recieved it as a Christmas Gift). There may be some cheaper ones out there that operate using a probe on a cord. I am definitley going to check that out as I would want a separate one for wax use. I just wanted to share this with everyone as I thought it might be helpful! I can't believe it took me this long to think of it!
