dirtybirdsoaps
I made a batch the other night using Lavender buds and Chamomile buds (crushed) and when I went to take them out of the mold I noticed the buds turned brownish-black. At first I thought it was mold but then I did a search on here and some people said that it has happened to theirs others said they didn't but they didnt mention if the batch was destroyed or not? Does this effect the soap? Should I toss it? HELP!!!!! :undecided
prairieannie
Your soap is fine, just not as pretty as you might have hoped!
Meridith
Next time you can put the lavender and chamomile buds on the top of the bar before it sets up all the way.
doris
If it is CP soap, the lye will turn almost any botanicals brown. My lavender CP soap is light brown with darker brown flecks of lavender. Smells wonderful. Calendula is one of the few botanicals that will retain its colour.
mountainmadness
IMO- when making lavender soap either sprinkle the top with the buds or grind them up and add a bit to the soap. If you sprinkle on the top they will stay purple. If you grind them they will turn brown but look more like flecks... If you leave them whole they look like mouse poop. :undecided
dirtybirdsoaps
Welllllll ugly I can deal with, trashing the batch would just be depressing. Thanks for all the advice I will definitely use it in the next batch.
asheebeans
I use some powdered chamomile and just stickblend it in really well, and fragrance with lavender EO. Then I throw a few lavender buds on top. I learned from my last batch of mouse-poop soap (Not really, but that is what it looked like after the lavender buds turned dark brown!) not to put the buds IN the soap, put 'em ON the soap! Meridith
You can also use OO infused with lavender and chamomile.
