Mei-Mei Posted March 8, 2006 Share Posted March 8, 2006 I'm not sure when to poke relief holes if I'm making a layered candles with distinct layers. I'm afraid that the color of the second layer will mix with the color of the first ruining the layered effect. For instance, if my pillar is 3 inches tall and I want to pour 2 inches of yellow and one inch of orange do I poke after the yellow pour, the orange pour, both pours....? rachf19 Posted March 8, 2006 Share Posted March 8, 2006 I'm pretty sure that you would want to poke relief holes in both layers. I know that holes in the first layer assist the second layer in "sticking" to the first in addition to preventing air bubbles. Just don't poke the holes anywhere near the outer part of the candle. As for the second layer, I'm not sure that it is necessary, and some of the more experienced members can probably give you better advice, but I would think that you should poke shallow relief holes in the second layer (i.e. 3/4 of the way down the second layer, not into the first) to prevent air bubbles.
