dixylight
Hello...I would like to try this recipe. This is my first try at CP and the ingredients were all at the grocery store. I ran it through the soap calculator and it looks like it would work. Would someone check it for me just to be sure? Thanks:) Makes a 2 lb batch28% olive oil- (9 oz)28% coconut oil- (9 oz)44% lard- (14 oz)1/2 oz fragrance oil12 oz distilled water5 oz lye

dixylight
So I have to use that amount of f/o...I thought I could use less. I punched in the amount of f/o before I hit the calculate button. I think I will need to go by grams too because my scale only goes down to 1/8 oz and round grams to the whole number. If I round grams to the whole number is this accurate enough? Is this going to be a problem? If I did grams would this be accurate?2 pound batchCoconut-254 gramsOlive-254 gramsLard-399 gramsf/o 1.31 oz (I can get really close to this)Water- 345 gramsLye- 131 grams
Janis
Your measurement look fine except that I think you are rounding? Right? Do you have a tenth measurement on your scale? If so, don't round. Try to use exact amounts. Your recipe is high in coconut oil. It's going to be hard and fluffy, but could be somewhat drying. How about something like this:28% OO55% Lard17% COOr even:55% OO28% Lard17% COGosh, you can do lots with those three oils. Have fun!
dixylight
No my scale doesn't do a tenth of a gram...just whole grams. The smallest ounce measurement is 1/8th and I think that is even less accurate. So if I don't round up or down would this be better?2 pound batchCoconut-254 gramsOlive-254 gramsLard-399 gramsWater-344 gramsLye-130 grams-Sorry that I seem to be so confused...I just want to make a safe bar of soap. I may consider your other measurements too...thanks for your help.
donna4909
I'd do something like:34.38% olive oil- (11 oz)15.62% coconut oil- (5 oz)50% lard- (16 oz)4.4 oz lye & 12 oz water - if your scale isn't very accurate, you could do 4.3 oz of lye. That will give you a 7% superat, to add more "cushion" to the recipe.
dixylight
Well I ended up using Janis's 1 suggestion so it wouldn't be too drying of a soap and I measured it all in grams without rounding. It took forever to trace but I mixed it by hand...don't have a stick blender yet...lol...will have one tomorrow! I sure hope it turns out because the whole process was about 3 hours. If it don't at least I got my feet and hands wet...lol! Thanks! This is what I did:2 pound batch28% olive oil=254 grams55% lard=499 gramscoconut oil=17%=154 grams1 oz f/oWater=344 gramsLye=126 grams
