Shala
All of the candles that I have made so far are with paraffin wax. I have done hours upon hours of testing and am happy with my candles, but would like to try a soy blend just for the fun of it. (hubby is going to kill me!) I have had people ask me if my candles are soy, so if you use a blend do you just tell them that it is a soy blend? Do the people requesting soy still buy your candles even though it contains 50% paraffin?
Marilyn
Some soy blends are mixed with other veggie waxes. To be clear about it, it is usually called para/soy blends. I would think that plenty of people who want to buy soy and are used to paraffin would buy a blend.
Shala
Thanks for you input Marilyn. I'm not too worried about people that are used to buying paraffin buying soy but the other way around. Will people that like soy candles buy a candle with some paraffin in it? I know that I have lots of research to do and am not in any way trying to get around that. I just wanted to see some input on customers. Thanks again for answering Marilyn. I really appreciated it! Budgie
Before I started making candles myself, I bought soy candles all the time and as a customer, I would not have purchased a candle with paraffin in it. I would always get black soot all over the TV and walls and didn't want my lungs to look the same way. I guess it depends on what people want. I don't want a product made from petroleum burning in my home. Heck, I don't even use vaseline because it has petroleum in it and I don't want that on or in my body. Marilyn
This is interesting. I can say from my point of view if I wanted just soy because everyone is saying that it is clean burning I probably wouldn't buy a blend candle. But there have been discussions about how bad paraffin really is, which is that it's not as bad as soy pushers say it is. I haven't done the research myself, but I think I would explain how "unstable" (if I can use that word, there probably is a better word!) soy wax is and that mixing a bit of paraffin in improves the quality of the candle. Which of course in certain aspects that is true. Hmmmm....I wonder if I made any sense
Budgie
I would like to say that I never bash paraffin in order to sell my own products. I make good quality products and I think they sell themselves.
