Guest OldGlory
It doesn't matter what wick I put in my test burn pillar, I get soot. What's up with that? Are these paraffin pillar waxes always going to throw soot?
Jcandleattic
Mine don;t but I don't use straight paraffin, - well, it's paraffin, but blended. I use either the Pre-Production paraffin that C&S carries or I use 4625..Straight paraffin will soot on me if I use a full 6% scent load, no matter what wick I use. With straight paraffin I try to keep my scent load at 3-4%. That will usually cuts way down on and/or eliminates any sooting I get.
Guest OldGlory
Thanks Jcandle. I think I figured it out.The current tester is 1343 with 4% FO. I am using (successfully, finally!) a 755 Premier, no mushrooms at all. This pleases me lol. I have been power burning this one (nicknamed Jagger because with all of the wick changes it has developed a fat lip on one side) and it is only throwing soot when the wick needs to be trimmed. The wick is nearly self trimming - after a 6 hour burn I only need to cut off about 1/32 of an inch. Just the tiniest bit. And then it burns without the soot.Next I am going to test burn one made from 1274 and 3% FO.
Danni5173
Never have had soot with 1343- 6% FO- usually a 1/0 square braid. Edited September 13, 2014 by Danni5173
