Mannie
Hi fellow Chandlers, I made this 16 oz keepsake jar candle sometime in August.Use 444 soy wax, 7% oil, and 1 dye chip for the middle layer and Cd 16 wick. Decided to burn it today 11/13/12 here is a picture after 41/2 hours burn. The flame danced a bit, any opinion on the burn? Thanks.
jeanie353
Mannie...you might want to wick it down. If this is the 1st burn ever on the candle you wouldn't want a full melt pool happening in any part of the candle for another two burns or so. If you twist the CD wick it will give a more centered circle burn. HTH and GL
rjdaines
I'd wick down to a CD 8 or CD 10, your candle will be too hot in the last half of the burn. Which brings us to melt pools, don't shoot for an early full melt pool for reasons that I just said, too hot in the last half of the burn. A thin layer of wax on the side is fine and will go away later. A layer of 1/4 inch or more suggests wicking up.
