  1. wow! like really thick vaseline??? I may give it a try... did some searches and people seem to like it. couldn't really find any comparisons though.. but I will prolly give it a try and see how it works for me. I found some threads where people were having trouble wicking the harmony blend... so not sure about that one. wicking is hard enough ya know... lol! thanks for the info. daisyfairy
  2. thank you so much! I went and looked at the web page and I love the jars and the prices... but was confused on what a master case was. haha.. I will get in touch with them. thanks again. daisyfairy
  3. Hi.. I just heard about the jar store.. do they have a minimum order??? I would like to find a better place to get jars.. thanks daisyfairy
  4. Hi all... I am looking for suggestions and oppinions. I want to try out some container waxes.. I am currently using the igi 6006, want to try a different one.. but not sure which so I thought I would get oppinions about how they all compare. IGI 4630 (harmony blend), IGI 4627 (comfort blend) and IGI 6006. I like the burn characteristics of the 6006 but I notice sometimes I get seepage when only using 6%.. and the hot throw is not always that good. all suggestions and oppinions will be appreciated greatly. thank you daisyfairy
  5. thanks for the link... that helped a lot. LOL... outside.. well.. I was burning them in a drafty room and it just dawned on me the melt pool might not be getting hot enough due to the draft. thanks again. DaisyFairy
  6. I am not sure why the second pour is lighter colored than the first... unless the dye chip is not mixed completely and it just happened to occur that way.. but the top looking like it will pop off is because either the second pour was not hot enough.. (needs to be 10 degrees hotter than the first with no dipping) ... or possibly the first pour was too cool when you made your second pour. needs to be cool completely to touch but not cold. HTH. DaisyFairy
  7. also.. just out of curiosity... does cold weather effect how a candle burns.. we are having sleet and extremely cold temps today.. and the cd4's seemed to be ok yesterday.. I mean they weren't burning great but they would have caught up.. but not today. DaisyFairy
  8. ugh! This new wax is killing me! lol... I was wicking votives with a cd4... does not get full melt pool with this new wax even thought he melt point is only 133... tried a cd5 and that just seems to tunnel worse and burn up the wax quicker. I need to know if anyone knows of a chart or something somewhere that gives which wicks burn hotter and all that info and includes cd wicks. I know zinc would probably work well but I really like the throw I am getting with cd wicks and I hate those zinc mushrooms. thanks DaisyFairy
  9. thanks! that helped a lot! I tried doing a search before I posted, but I am not good at the wording I guess... haha.. didn't find that one. I will just have to experiment and see which method works for me when they get here.. but that is a good starting point. thanks again DaisyFairy
  10. I am fixing to order wick pins and start using them in my votives. I was wondering how hard these are to remove? Do you need to use a releasant on them to get them to release? thanks DaisyFairy
  11. LOL!!! Well, I guess you CAN eat wax.. I mean they used to make those wax lips and stuff when I was a kid and the cola bottles filled with juice. haha.. didn't taste great, but edible. I am not sure about the triple scented thing either.. I have heard 9% scent referred to as triple scented by some people... DaisyFairy
  12. lol! in case you want to know... I know this because when we were first starting.. my husband made one. haha... was a wizard candle and was beautiful but hollow. DaisyFairy
  13. In a pillar candle the wax on the outer edges.. (top, bottom and sides) cools faster.. so it will pull the wax away from the center. If you don't poke releif holes around the wick you will wind up with a very beautiful.. HOLLOW candle. The holes allow access to the hollow center so it can be filled on the second pour. Daisy Fairy
  14. That is an idea and I might play with it some time when I have some time.. the only thing I would worry about with this is the temp on the second pour.. would have to be pretty precise.. if the bottom gets too cool in order to get it out of the mold easily then you run the chance of the second pour not adhearing to the first and getting a split or breakage at that point. but would be worth looking in to. thanks for the suggestion! I will definitely play with it when i have some time. DaisyFairy
  15. Oh, don't worry... taylored is and will be my main distributor.. I order oils, wax, molds, containers.. just about all my supplies. I have been really happy with them. I will look into aaa... if they carry the 4794 I may consider them. I can't see poking relief holes for votives in order to get the wicks to stay centered.. but I will continue to play with the temps and anything else I can think of ... in the mean time. Thank you for the option.... though. DaisyFairy
  16. I haven't tried the 10 degrees cooler yet.. I am pouring at 175 first pour now.. 165 would be the absolute lowest without getting surface flaws I think .. but I may try that.. thank you very much for the advice. I did these last two tests doing releif holes by the wick.. which is really entirely too much work for a votive, considering how many I make..but that seems to have worked and kept the wick straight. so that may be an option just to get this order out... however I may try pouring one at 165 just to see... I thought about the wick pins.. I have a place to get them at a pretty good price so that is an option. My hubby and business partner is rather against them.. He likes the hand-poured look that we get by hand placing the wicks as they cool.. I mentioned the wick pins cause I know that would be less work actually and easier to keep centered.. unfortunately .. I lost the battle. lol. Daisy Fairy
  17. I know.. Robert and Kimberly are angels! We love them. I just thought someone might have some advice for me with this since I have this order to finish or possibly another wax possibility.. The wicks are being pulled so crooked That my initial assumption was this HAD to be a pillar blend and they accidently put the wrong thing in the wrong box.. and even when it burned it began to tunnel.. I called and talked to robert then and went through the whole process of temps, oils.. etc.. and he immediately sent another case at no cost saying he was not sure what was up. but I am now of the mind that it is just the way this wax is.. and so I am going to contact them and pay for this case.. I feel this is only the right thing to do by them, as I said we love them. The shrink pit is going an inch to an inch and a half down and pulling the wick with it... But now I am testing with relief holes and so far that is looking good. I think it may work.. but can't be sure yet. I was also curious to see if anyone else was having this problem with this particular wax. I know my temps are right and I preheat molds and pour pots to reduce dipping. thanks Daisy Fairy
  18. I was wondering .. I have seen posts from others in here who shop taylored concepts in Dallas tx. I live fairly close to there so it is more cost effective for me to get wax from taylored. They recently quit carrying IGI 4794 which was my votive wax. I have since ordered 3 cases of their taylored votive which is the replacement custom blend they now carry. The first case was fine... shrank more.. but livable... and the scent throw is better than I got with 4794...The second case ... shrank way bad... pulled the wicks in the votives sideways and crooked and down.. no matter what I did to try to stop it... I called thinking it was a bad batch and they sent a replacement case at no cost. They are wonderful people. However this case was the same. I just don't know what to do.. it is just too much work for a votive... actually needs a third pour to be truely topped off and with the wicks crooked it will not burn properly... way too much shrinkage... is just not gonna work.. but I have a large order I am trying to fill so I have to fight through this one somehow.. or drive somewhere and get a different wax. I am still trying different things.. even relief holes as ludicrous as that sounds in a votive. haha. I really miss my igi. lol! but I notice that peak has stopped carrying it too... so maybe something is up with igi waxes???? anyway.. my question is.. have any of you who by from taylored had this problem with votives? and also from anyone else... any and all Ideas would be greatly appreciated. including any replacement wax ideas.. thank you bunches! Daisy Fairy
  19. thank you so much for your help.. I know I have heard people say they add up to 9% and I just can't do that and keep the price competitive. I am making some that I go up to 7% on.. and that is pushing it. thanks again. daisyfairy
  20. Just out of curiosity.. I was wondering, for those of you who make votives pillars and containers. what is the general percentage fragrance load you use? I am having a quandrum. haha.. between quality and cost of product. I am not sure how to use a high percentage and keep the price reasonable, while taking into account the costs of shipping the supplies. the shipping is what is really hurting the cost. thanks, daisyfairy
  21. Yep, I mean it is burning great and the scent throw is really good... so I guess it is really only an appearance problem. thanks bunches guys! daisyfairy
  22. I usually pour 10 degrees hotter but I just never noticed this happening before. The candle is burning well and the scent throw is good... I just thought it looked a little strange with these circles in it and I knew they were from my releif holes. I think I will try pouring the second pour a little hotter next time and see if that does better. thank you so much for your help. Daisyfairy
  23. I have made a pillar and poked relief holes to do the second pour... the candle turned out fine. I am now burning it and it is burning beautifully.. however I noticed that in the bottom of the melt pool I can see the circles where I poked relief holes and I think I trapped bubbles in there also..The circles are not hollow.. but more like a ring with wax in the middle and outside.. if that makes sense. Do I need to pour this second pour hotter? Is that why this happened? thanks for any advice. DaisyFairy
