  1. I'm really enjoying making M&P soap, but now want to try something else. What would you recommend for a fairly newbie? Maybe a lotion or shampoo, things my Mom would like:) Any base recommendations?
  2. Marking them fragile does no good, most people don't care and the machines that sort the packages can't read that. Your package can end up at the bottom of a pile of 100's of other packages and you never know when the package that ends up on top of it can weigh 70lbs. You can never over do packing materials around your items and tape the heck out of the box, it adds to it's strength.
  3. I'm looking for the packaged ready to use base. I have been using BB's premium GM base and it just started sweating on me with the last few batches. I have also been using the GM base from NG and it isn't melting right and when you do finally get it melted it sets up while your pouring it.
  4. Do you have a favorite GM base that you would be willing to share? I'm looking to try a different one, due to problems with the 2 I am using.
  5. They are both cool, but I really love the elephant.
  6. I started with NG's base and FO's. I really liked the GM base, but thought I should try something else to compare it too. I tried BB's and like it a lot better, much creamier in my opinion. I still buy a lot of my other stuff from NG because they are quicker about getting their orders out and since they are closer to me then BB the shipping is faster too. I have a 2lb slab of the GM base from NG here I haven't used. If you want to try it I would sell it to you for what it cost me plus shipping to you.
  7. I'm new to the soap world, but not to colors. I sell colors for people to use on bird toys. If they mix the colors with water I always tell them to either throw it away or keep it in the fridge. Water sitting around goes stagnant over time and can grow bacteria. I would email BB and ask them about it.

I was wondering if these colors could be used in M&P? Ingredients: FD&C Blue #1 Preservatives: Sodium Benzoate, Phosphoric Acid Ingredients: FD&C Red # 40 & Red #3 Preservatives: Sodium Benzoate, Phosphoric Acid, Propylene Glycol Ingredients: FD & C # 3 Preservatives: Propylene Glycol
  10. Thank you, I do have that on my wish list in the cart I'm filling today:) The one thing I'm unsure of is how much of it to use?
  11. Today I plan on order some more stuff:yay: Any recommendations on things I should buy just starting out? How about any FO's/EO's that you really like? Really loving using soap I made:)
  12. Thanks for yet another tip. Looks like I should just avoid sugar:) I have to say I'm very happy with my B sugar soap now and have been using it in the shower.
  13. Yesterday I made some soap using my silicone muffins pan. Soaked them in hot water after using, washed them with dish soap. Then I used them to make a different soap and smell the first FO on the new soaps. Now I have them soaking in baking soda and water. Am I going to get rid of the smell or should I just toss them? Does this happen often with silicone? That was what I was leaning towards for molds, because I like how easy they are to release.
  14. Thanks for the tip on the sugars, if I try a sugar soap again I'll remember that. The Vanilla was a FO, I guess I should have clarified that. No I didn't add any colorant. I don't have any yet, that order I'm still waiting to get here.
  15. I think the sticky was just from using it so soon, today it feels fine.
  16. The recipe called for 1 lb of base, I used 2 lbs. (by mistake) It lathers good, smell is kinda light. It leaves my hands feeling kinda sticky until they dry and you can feel a slight residue afterwards.
  17. Not my first since last week I did the craft store one, but my first this week with I'm hoping better ingredients:) I'm not overly happy with it and hoping for some feedback. The recipe I used called for 1 lb clear base, 1 tea Vit E, 1 teaspoon Vanilla and 1 1/2 tbs Brown Sugar. Well when I had it all poured I realized I used a 2 lb slab of the base, but didn't double the rest of the ingredients:( No problem I read many places I can remelt and fix, so I figured that would be today's project. I just took them out of the molds and tried some. It leaves my hands feeling kinda sticky until they dry and you can feel a slight residue afterwards. Is it the brown sugar? The clear base? The fact the ingredients aren't right? Hopefully here's a pic. The little hearts are a candy mold I found in the cupboard, the bars are from one of the bases I have got in so far.

    Molds

Thank you. I pushed the button on both shopping carts today and took the plunge on a bunch of supplies. I did buy a few molds just cause I liked them, but after reading I did think I would "look" around to see what I could use, versus spending a lot on molds to start with too.

    Molds

I have spent all afternoon filling shopping cards on two different sites with supplies to get started. Now I'm too molds. I think to start with I just want to do regular rectangle bars and small quest bars. Any recommendations?
  20. Thank you for your replies and the links. Off to do more reading and research:)
  21. I bought a small package of M&P at my local craft store and now I want more:smiley2: I have been reading so much about making it that is all my mind is filled with, I'm even dreaming about it. What advice would you give a new person? I have been looking at all kinds of bases and can't pick. I would like to work with Goats milk, but do I want a liquid based one or powdered base? I live in Ohio, so do I want a low sweat base? Would I be better off buying a shea base or plain base and adding my own goats milk to make my base more versatile? If so liquid or powder? Recipes? Do you just come up with your own, get them online, etc? What would be some simple ones to try? Thank you for any and all advice, ,tips or tricks you can offer me. I'm really hoping to get an order placed this weekend, I'm anxious to try making more.
