  1. I bought it from NCS which probably came from CS anyway. I have one from BigTree but not sure about that one. Will try it though. I've actually been told you can get it in soap too. Will have to look for some.
  2. I have seen people selling candles in recycled glass jars and such and didn't really think it was a bad thing. I don't think it would be something a non profit should do. I think it would cost more than it would make initially cause you will have to buy wax and FO and wicks and then test them all in the different containers to find the right wick and so forth. I've spent a bit so far and yet to have anything worth selling.
  3. For the DB I used 9% I've only wicked with the Advanced and found htp 105 104 are much on par with the DB. Other fragrances I think I would stick with htp126, but didn't really complete testing those candles I have made and will probably remelt and do something with them.
  4. LOL, well I am still changing wax. I have some C3 on the way. Maybe whatever it is they are doing to prevent the frosting also prevents the hot throw?????? I have other FO test and no throw and no frosting....mmmm strange.
  5. It is very very nice. Ordered the same FO from a different supplier and it smells nothing like it out of the bottle. So will see what happens when I use that one. I hope it does have something to do with it, because it was the only time the wax frosted and I made 3 different batches at different times and different colours and all frosted in some way, even with no colouring. I just assumed it was the FO cause I have used others with no frosting at all. Ahh...the joys of candles
  6. Just thought I would post a small success with Ecosoya Advanced. I am testing at the moment an 8oz tin with Dragon's Blood FO and a 5 day cure and it has a nice throw! I do have to say that this FO does make the wax frost rather badly though. Probably won't use the combination in the future, but it is just really really good to know I can make a successful candle! Oh and that Advance can sometimes work.
  7. Strange how you have luck with one container and not another. I have only used the some tins and with CBA (I am just starting) and have given up too. I started a thread with basically the same question and same with Tammy. C3 is what I am giving a try. Just ordered some today.
  8. I noticed their FO wasn't cheap, but is it any good?
  9. I'm with you Koala, no idea who they are talking about though I know Candle Supply has the C3 wax, which I am considering buying today. Question though, do htp wicks do any good with C3 in an 8oz tin?? I have quite a few of them and would be a shame to waste them.
  10. I've never thought of renaming a scent. You could call it whatever it reminds you of when you smell it?? I haven't smelt that one so can't help with a name, sorry.
  11. Thanks Tammy, probably read it when I did a search on Advanced, but wil go now and read it. I am in Australia so shipping might be a bit much but did find someone here who has that wax.
  12. I've decided to ditch the Ecosoya Advanced wax. Well for now. Being new and really not having much luck and not wanting to waste lots of money on trying and failing it is getting a me a bit down. So thought I would go for a wax that at least has some good throw. Being in Australia, I just wondered who people order through here and what waxes they use? I bought the Ecosoya from NCS and that is the only brand they stock in soy. I guess I don't really have a preference for what type of wax, soy or palm cause there is good and bad in all, but something that is alright to deal with I think. I've also bought FO from Big Tree. Any suggestions?
  13. They really are beautiful candles. I love the shape
  14. Thanks thanks I made some Sweet Pea testers last night using the .86 and it all went nice and smoth...yay!! I do work in grams and I think that's what got me sometimes. All the information I was reading was in oz. Hi Steve, thanks I use a double boiler at the moment, but I am looking for something like the presto. They just aren't as cheap here and I didn't want to jump in too much financially so went the other way. But I do have a candle room set up so I will move to the presto soon so I am not walking through the house with melted wax. You are definitely right about a routine, and I am trying to remember to write down absolutely everything.
  15. Thanks KoalaGirl, it certainly is a lovely place. I drive to Launie often. Why .86? I do do the water part...so at least I am half way there lol I did go to melt the testers down last night and add some more fragrance, but of course I don't have enough to do all the testers. Wouldn't you know. So I am guessing, that they will still be okay to melt down in a couple of weeks when I get some more fragrance?? Thanks
  16. Maggie: I think I will do that actually. If I have to wait to test so I might as well have it all correct or else the test will be worthless. Pam: I was reading different sites (left my candle notebook at home so can't remember the site) but it was all conversions and working out how much wax was needed for containers. It was something along the lines of 1 pound of wax was 18 fluid ounces....for soy. But it was 20 oz for a different wax. So I was converting into grams. So what I had was 6 tins which held roughly (going from memory) 193 grams of water. So I needed 193gms melted wax. But wanted a FO of 8% . So 177.56gms wax and 15.44gms FO. But that went wrong. So from now on I will melt the wax and then pour into my jug waiting on the scales and measure correctly.
  17. Thanks Tracey. Not yet....LOL....but I do sit in the shop and curse cause I could be at home pouring and testing. LOL... I do my pouring in the evening.
  18. People use a Presto Pot. New to the forum, I've been browsing for a week or so now so hello Some fantastic information you guys provide. I'm in Tasmania, Australia. Maths, who knew it would be important :rolleyes2 I made some candles last night for testing of wicks. Plus cure times as I am using the Ecosoya Advanced. 8oz tins, testing the htp 104 and 105 wicks. So had 6 tins set up 5, 9, 14 day cure times. Well my maths was way way out and melted 2.08kgs of wax and added 94. something grams of fragrance. Pouring away and then realised I had way too much wax left over! Panic!! Another tin and 3 tumblers later and filling the tins high..the wax was used. Crikies...lol..what a learning experience. I shall now melt the wax and weigh the melted wax amount that I need. It was in the conversion from solid to melted that I stuffed it. Sadly I think now I end up with a 4% fragrance which is probably not going to be good. Ah well.... learning learning :smiley2: Amanda
