  1. There's a scent, though not as strong as the ones from the stores. They have been sitting some 3 weeks now.

I'm going to try again next week. I'll see if there's something that I did wrong that I can correct.

I don't know what to think of it right now. I am disappointed. 3.5 oz of FO ought to have been enough. That's some expensive sachet. I'll let you know if I can figure this out.

  2. I have this stuff from the Candlemaker's Store. It honestly looks like plain old cheapo kitty clay/litter to me. You should have seen look on DH's face when I opened up the box all excited.

Two problems I'm having, one - I should have made darn sure it was dry before I packaged it as it did get an odd odor. Two - I have used over 3 oz of FO, good FO, and I just do not think that it is as well scented as the stuff in the stores. I do not know why. I am disappointed and will not sell it until I can get it better scented. Maybe it's the medium? I just don't know, but it is certainly not going to be cost saving if I have to add more FO. If i can't justify the cost to my customers...it's out.

At any rate, if anyone tries the plain clay litter, please let me know how it works out.

  3. I have very sensitive skin, allergies, and eczema. I will not buy a soap with anything that even hints of a scent. EO or not. Though, I did not have a problem with Hazelnut in a shea butter someone here made for me. And the cream that daniedb from Henry Co. was very good as well.

I'm afraid to try the soaps. I've tried soaps with healing EOs for my skin type, they literally burned my skin. Got to the point that I was thinking of getting stock in Caladryl and hydrocortisone creams. I can't even use ALOE, I'm allergic to it.

Be careful, Top. But if anyone can do it, your superb analytical mind will figure it out!

Can't you make an emoillient soap without dyes, EOs, or fragrance? Just gentle, cleansing, and softening.

Hope it turns out great for you and your friend.

  4. Well, I'm perplexed. Preparing to bottle Dead Sea Salts, and wanting to put instructions and pertinent info when I see that a proper, or truly therapeutic bath, would require approximately 3 pounds of Dead Sea Salts per bath, three times a week for several weeks.

Well, there goes my pretty packaging idea!

Now what? What am I supposed to do, not sell them, or sell them by the pallet?!

What am I supposed to put for instructions? I suppose I should take orders and tell the customer to wait for a truck!

Someone please give me an idea on what you suggest to your customers, and whether a far smaller amount has any benefit in a bath. Am I wasting my time, or misleading people?

    Thanks,

    Fern-Marie

  5. You can use a microwave for soy...not generally recommended for paraffin, never use for gel.

Short intervals and intermittent stirring is always the best and safest way, and after you stir, take the temp. Using caution should always be in the forefront of your mind.

I have melted blends in the micro. (Oops) But didn't have a problem. I just wasn't thinking and wanted to try one.

The Presto is superb for larger batches...It still shocks me how fast it melts wax, even on a lower setting. I think it's better than the microwave. But they can be pretty pricey.

  6. Also, make sure that you wash the containers really well to get the 'polish' stuff off of them. That will cause a pull away as well. Some soys are made to pull away from the container...this characteristic baffles me in a 'container wax' product, what ev.

A heat gun to warm the sides of the glassware will generally cause the wax to bond back to the glass.

You'll be fine. I know it's annoying and frustrating at times. Keep at it.

  7. I think it is reasonable to get the on sale for $3.33, and sell them alongside your products adding on: the regular cost, the tax, the time-energy-and gas, for your going to get the things. $7.00 is a good price. It wasn't all that long ago that you couldn't touch them for under $10.

If they want to drive to Michael's and walk around and shop for them - be my guest. Use your gas and energy to save two bucks on a warmer, when the gas will equal that at least...it's silly.

My Walmart does not have them any longer. Most ppl do not go to Michael's to shop, unless they're crafters. They don't know what they cost-for the most part.

I've had more ppl tell me that they've never seen them before. Wide-eyed awe as if I invented the thing!

I sell them along-side my wickless and sell as a set.

As a matter of convenience, they should not bawk all that much.

  8. I hope the pictures are an accurate look at them. I thought they looked nice too.

One thing I noticed is that they say to spray on the FO, but I think we have to be careful that the FOs don't come in contact with the glue holding the petals together - the FO will eat the glue and they fall apart. That's what I heard.

I cannot wait to see them live and in color! Keeping my fingers crossed.

  9. This is probably a silly question but I am using Naturesway Cargil v-1 for my tarts and I have tried pouring them at a million different tempurtures and the keep sinking in the middle and cracking. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong or even suggest the best and easiest soy wax for tarts. Thank you so much for your help!!

    E'dee Johnson:yay:

E'dee, how are you letting them set up?

Keep them away from drafts and cool air. Don't put them in the oven or other confined area, they need to set up slowly and naturally. Mine fall if DH opens the door. Think of it as baking bread or a or souffle' .. do not expose them to temp changes or they fall.

I'm sorry you're having trouble with them. Hope this info helps.

  10. I had listed some 416 tart wax on the classified ads a few days ago but didn't get one single taker. I even listed it pretty cheap :cry2: lol

I actually use my GB 444 soy for tarts but I pour in clamshells. Since it is a little harder than the GB 415, popping them out of the clamshells hasn't been a problem.

Jami, I was thinking of trying it myself (444) - how's the hot and cold throws, and does the hot throw last long? I'm getting like 40 hours on my tarts on the warmer, I don't want to mess that up.

    thx!

  11. Ok, I rolled my eyes at first, but they sure look pretty.

Michael, it's just one of those odd 'chick' things. Even we don't understand it. But no matter what the item, to be able to call one of your friends or family members and to have found the "it" item of the week, and be the talk of the town...because you just know everyone will roll their eyes but just insist on seeing them...well, it's what chicks live for.

They are 'conversation piece' to be sure.

...and I bet they will sell like crazy. Like that old commercial, "and they told two ppl and so on, and so on"...every chick on the chick circuit will want one.

Top will be happy that the bears have reprieve! Or he'll start P.E.T.T.P.!! LOL

  12. What did you pay for the item when it was on sale and what is the price when it's not on sale? How often does it go on sale?

I'd price it near the regular price when it's not on sale. However, if it goes on sale often, I wouldn't expect to sell as many.

If I had a retail license, I'd be looking to buy wholesale from someone such as jackel. Then I would see if I could double my cost. http://www.jackelus.com/

Last year I bought some votive holders from michaels that were on sale at 3 for $1 (they were regular priced at .69 cents each. Last week I saw that the same votive holders have had a price increase and are now priced at .99 cents each. If I were to sell mine at my candle stand (imaginary, since I don't have one :)) , I'd price them at $1.

The market would let me know if that price was too much. IMO..it's easier to start a little high and come down than to start too low and come up.

There he goes reading my mind again! lol

Do not assume that the next time you go to buy them, especially if you run out, that they will be on sale. Always go by the regular price. The fact that you got them on sale is not in play, it's a feather in your cap. Your price is fine.

  13. And can all FO's be used with Gel?

No. Gel is it's own creature and only FOs tested for gel should be used, and sometimes those are not good either. Gel will cloud very easily, and because of the temps involved, it is volitile - especially with the wrong FO!
