  1. What is the purpose or advantages of a salt bar??

Salt bars are said to help with skin problems, such as acne, eczema, psoriasis.

I've never made salt bars and was also doing a search for recipes. I had no idea co & salt is all there is to it.

  2. Can someone explain water discount to me, please?:embarasse The receipe calls for 12 oz. GM and 12 oz. water. So, are you talking taking away some of the water? Sry, just learning the lingo, lol

Yes, a water discount is using less water than called for so that the soap will cure/harden faster. Some people always discount their water. Some people never do. I'm one of the never do's, because I'm not sure enough of my soap making abilities to change the percentages that soapcalc gives. And I definitely wouldn't try a water discount on a recipe with milk in it.

  3. I think your staging and photographic abilities are just perfect, chele. The satin background is draped perfectly and the flower arrangement adds to the elegance. You don't have so many candles that it looks cluttered. I wouldn't change a thing. It looks wonderful.

  4. Do a search on Google or ebay to get ideas for the blanket. My kids had one when they were kids and they loved it. Theirs had pockets that you could put things in and and big push button that sounded like a horn and toys & teethers sewn on, so when I went somewhere I didn't have to take a bagful of activities, just the blanket. A very entertaining and educational blanket.

  5. Thanks, Suzanne! :yay:

I certainly hope this link stays since it's obvious SO many of us really NEED this info. Shrink wrapping is one of those things that are easier said than done. I went to a convention that had a shrink demo & I thought it was something any simpleton could do, so I spent most of the time outside smoking. Now that I've 'tried' shrink wrapping I could just kick my a** for not paying attention during the demo. :embarasse

  6. The Indonesian Teak and Mambo both give me strong cold & hold throws and they are wonderful! I also use Mambo in soap & body sprays. A sexy masculine scent that both men & women both like.

Polynesian Black Ginger is extremely strong and I personally don't care for the scent. (perhaps it just seems strong because I don't like it?)

Masterbaker is right about the Antahala Vanilla - you've GOT to get it. The name is misleading, it's not merely a vanilla with a twist, it's a great designer fo. Good in wax & B&B.

I use a 70% soy blend from GL & have found very few GL fo's that do not throw well in it. And their customer service is the best.

  7. I guess one of those boxes was mine (yea! more candle molds!). I hope it was one of the first easy ones.:wink2: I didn't even think about the Christmas rush shipping at this time of year. Thanks for having the patience to wait in the long line. :highfive: I should have it tomorrow or Monday if it didn't come in today.

  8. You only have to use the TM or name followed by the word 'type' if it's a manufacturer's trademarked name, NOT if it's a supplier's fo name. If that were the case, every name would have to be TM'd. Suppliers sell their fo's expecting you to use the name.

  9. I use GL 70/30 wax in this size jar and have had GREAT burns with 2-CD6's and one 60-44-18z. Both burns were totally clean - no hangup at all, no soot, jars not too hot to touch. The zinc mushrooms a bit, but not too bad, plus it's the only wick I've found that I can single wick this candle with and end up with a clean jar.

  10. I just finished 80 wedding pillars using CBL141, black dye, unscented and used flat braid #36 and they burn beautifully, I don't even need to hug them!! Also, I twist my wick so it burns evenly and doesn't lean just to one side which makes it look off center. :cool2:

    BLACK WEDDING pillars!?!?! LMFAO

The bride must have had a wicked sense of humor! Must not have been her first wedding (or she's not planning on it being her last). :laugh2:

  11. I've tried using the large pyrex measuring cup things and the problem with them is that the glass cools the wax really fast and you end up with a pretty thick layer of solid wax all in the cup.

A lb. of wax always weighs a pound whether it's solid or liquid, BUT it melts down into approx. 20 oz. liquid volume (parrafin). Soy a little less I think. So you don't need a lb. of wax to fill a 16 oz. container.

Georgia's right about a digital scale being a must and the pot of water to set the pour pot in.

Judy's right, too. Most people do not mix their color & fo in the presto. If you did that you would have to have a lot of candles the same color & scent if it was full and when you wanted to change either you would have to clean the presto out for every new batch. Much easier to have one presto for each type of wax and several pour pots to work with for color & scent changes.

    HTH

  12. Soy has a cure time to develop full fragrance. If you didn't wait at least a week, 2 weeks on some scents, before burning that is your problem.

Another good tip with soy or soy blends is capping the jar as soon as it solidifies. That helps hold the fragrance in as it continues to cool slowly and to cure (or at least that's what I've been told & it does seem to help tremendously).

  13. I've used Go Daddy's Website Tonight where you're suppose to be able to build a complete website in one night. That's a frigging joke. After working with that stinking program for 10 hours straight and not being able to go beyond the "coming soon" message, I finally gave up in frustration. I'm sure there's some do-it-youself web builders that are easier and less frustrating, but I don't happen to know what they are. I'm currently working on my website in Microsoft Front Page, which is really easy to work with, and when completed I'll just publish it to my site.
