  1. Very pretty! I like the unique look of the layered colors. Good job!
  2. I had a load of fun making them! Now I'm in the process of testing and tweaking so that I can make burnable ones. So much fun!
  3. I used a ziploc bag with one corner clipped.
  4. My experiment with cupcake candles. Most not burnable but they sure smell good sitting in my kitchen window sill! Glitter tea lights came out pretty cute.
  5. I'm super stoked! My wick centering tools from Peak came today yay! No more crooked wicks!
  6. Thanks! I am waiting for a sample pack of zinc wicks to arrive from Peak. I will try using a larger one and see what the result it.
  7. So here is what I am using: Peaks container wax 4630 8 oz tin (about 3" diameter) Zinc core wick 6" 51-32-18z I melted a pound of wax and added 1 dye chip and 1 oz of FO Trimmed wick to 1/4 before burning and at first I was getting mushrooms. Today on second test burn theres no mushrooms but the meltpool is not anywhere near where it should be. The depth of the tunnel is more than 1/2" wick too large for this type of container? (this is my first attempt at candles after a few years of not making any) I've done a lot of searching on the topic of melt pools but I figured I would see if anyone has any advice. Thanks for any input you might be able to give Kat
  8. LMao! Maybe I should tell them that next time and really baffle them then =D
  9. Thanks for the hint about the Permatex! I want to give some candles to family members after I do some more testing and I was concerned about the wicks sticking to the container. I found a tube of this at Napa auto parts today. The guy there looked at me crazy when I said I was looking for it for candles lol! That should do the trick nicely and I don't have to worry about the wick safety. Time for some more test burns =D Kat
  10. We are in Mariposa which is about an hour from Yosemite National Park
  11. I've been testing the candles and taking notes on my laptop. I am going to remelt some of them today and re do the wicks. The booklet that came with the kit said to insert the wick after the wax has congealed a bit to stick it to the bottom. I am concerned with how well the wick actually sticks using this method. I need to get a new glue gun since I can't find mine anywhere. Sadly we live in a very small town and there are no crafting stores that sell the sticky stuff just for wicks. So far I've had the most trouble with my travel tin candles mushrooming. They aren't really extreme mushrooms but they bother me still lol. I have ordered a wick sample pack from Peak along with the nifty wick centering tool since I am having trouble getting my wicks straight. I love all of the knowledge that these boards contain. I am learning alot of great information from reading through the posts!
  12. Hello everyone! I just joined the forums today and picked candlemaking back up as a hobby yesterday. I had forgotten how much I enjoy making candles. Lots of useful information here and I can't wait to learn all that I can! I'm starting simple and making container candles. I ordered a starter kit from Peak and the fragrances I received are fabulous! I had some old baby food jars laying around from when my daughter was still eating them and used some of those for candles too. I love it! I can't wait till this weekend because I am bringing some of my candles to my family for Easter! Have a great night everyone! Kat
