  1. I agree with you completely about the warm fuzzies - they didn't exist! I used to hate calling them to order because it was always like I was interrupting their precious time. I don't remember the guys name that always answered but he shouldn't have ever been allowed to answer phones and represent the company. It was at least two years ago that I ordered molds from them.

BUT, I like the dye diamonds. I no longer use the molds but the dye was just something I have formulated and easy.

  2. Monday I spoke with Andrea James of Seattle Post Intelligencer - she wrote an article on the company in Februray of this year. She has had three phone calls this week from other customers. She drove to the company and there is a note on the door that they are relocating. She also stated that there has been a death in Mike Kovacs' family.

As with everything else, this is second hand.

  3. But it leaves your hands so soft! heh. I generally use a paper towel to get off as much as possible and then seriously rub it into my hands. I don't do that with scented wax but when loading my melter I do. I also run directly to wash my clothes. It is sticky, sticky! But, I do like it. I am going to continue to test it for a while. I have about 150 lbs to work with so I feel I can get it where I want it - but, I have a 150 lb melter. There is no way you could make me load little bits of that wax!

  4. Okay, I am pretty sure I finally get it! Well, sort of. The description on the Candlewic site was just so unclear to me for some reason.

If I am reading you correctly, the following exhibit a would be the correct usage:

    exhibitabp0.jpg

    This would be incorrect:

I thought the last image was correct from trying to read the description and it made NO. SENSE. whatsoever.

Do you use this, Top? I currently use a griddle. It works fine but they wear out eventually and frankly, I want a long(er) term solution. I level in the mold and would continue to do so with this.

  5. Pringles Cans

    Oatmeal Cans

    Dixie Cups (all sizes!)

The cover of bulk CDs - like you purchase at an office supply store - take off the lid, drill a hole and wick that bad boy.

This is all from someone that had no money for molds years ago and used everything I could get my hands on.

  6. I have been playing with this wax. I hate loading it in the melter but once it is in there all is well. BUT, in December I made several testers and lo and behold, each and every one of them had spots so bad the looked polka dotted! I haven't had time to go back and mess with it again. My guess was cold weather - is this possibly the reason? I poured at the recommended temp. They probably cooled too quickly - it is cold in my workshop. Also, I have issues with there being a small dip beside the wick. Not really a big sink hole that needs a repour but they do require a heat gun.

  7. The problem with that article is that there is no date and it is written by the web designers to promote their own designs. Sadly, it tells us nothing about what is actually happening at Pourette right now.

I really wish someone that lived in Seattle would drive over there. I did a google map of the area but I got busy and didn't have time to go any further. I have, however, spent a lot of time searching for candle dyes today. I found one powder vendor and also called the site listed above about samples. I am not thrilled about using dye blocks but I am going to give them a shot. I have GOT to have something that I know I will have access to.

  8. You sit it on top of a cookie sheet or pan to catch the excess wax? And I assume there is a mechanism to level the surface? I really wish there were more instructions on the ordering page. I can tell it is a very simple product but seriously, I cannot visualize how it is used - why it would cost so much. If it has a base that levels with a mechanism, sure, but it if is just a hot surface, not so much! I want a nice visual demo of this in use with the angle. It bothers me to no end that I cannot totally visualize this product.

  9. There used to be a great ball mold offered by Peak and CandleScience. I would love to find a good source for those - I need a large volume so I would like to find the manufacture but I have never had any luck googling. The molds in this thread are similar but these are round on the top and the seam is almost nonexistant.

  10. Last year I had someone approach me to partner my business. She had a lot of capital so I considered it. We even started the process. We hit a glitch and I was so happy. I was starting to regret saying yes, let's investigate and wasn't sure how to tell her when we hit the glitch.

The thing I realized during this time is that a parnership is much like a marriage. I wouldn't enter into a marriage lightly. I simply cannot do it. I certainly wouldn't do it with a friend. My oldest friend opened a shop with three other friends a year ago and it took all of 30 days for it to go sour. They weren't close friends and now they are not friends at all.

Consider things very, very carefully. I am not saying don't do it - what I am saying is realize exactly what type of relationship a partnership is before jumping. Go with your gut and if you do this use contracts, lawyers and create an exit plan from the START. Nothing ruins a friendship like a partnership gone bad.
