  1. I think I will set up a tester with LX 22 and a "regular" oil I know are strong, like Blueberry Muffin and see how it does and one not that strong, a vanilla maybe just to see how they turn out using 1 oz pp. I really would like it to work with the LX wicks. I have started the testing on the other wicks, maybe I will start a new thread about that testing
  2. EcoSoya are the only ones available here in Sweden, so I can't do much about the vax. Xcel tends to bleed the FO some and I think 135 have better HT so thats why I have more of it in my blend.
  3. Thanks for all replies, There are a few WYW FO's that are really strong, I think I will continue with those and stay out of the rest, it will be way to expensive :-(
  4. But they don't ship to Sweden :-( I have heard lots of good things about their FO's.
  5. This is what I found about WYW: "Wick Your Wax fragrance oils are very concentrated! A little goes a long way! The majority of candlemakers that use the WYW regular oils use them at a ratio of between 3-5% (most do well at only 1/2 oz per pound of wax). WYW Top Shelf oils are very unique fragrances, and are of superior quality and extreme concentration. Eight ounces of these oils would be equivalent to 1-2 pounds of most mainstream oils. This line can be used at a ratio of 1-3% (approx. 1/4 oz per pound)." I wrote to them and asked about Wick Your Wax FO's and they told me so and that is what others use if I read their forum, also on the label on the bottle, but you are maybe right, I will try to use some more, up to 5% or just change to different kinds of FO. To bad it's hard to find FO that can be shipped to Sweden.
  6. It's the LX 22 and it's because it burns so nice I really don't wanna change anything but it must also have a good HT. I will wait for my other tester and see what she saids about the HT and also test my other candles with other wicks.
  7. No, I get it at Bitter Creek http://cart.candlesupply.com/Wick-Your-Wax%E2%84%A2-c-458.html Even if it's expensive I save a lot on the shipping that way. I used Mango Macadamia Nut in this candle and I just love that scent!!!
  8. Here are some images, this is the third burn and almost 2 hours burntime. As you can see there was a bit hangup but it will be gone when my candle is half burned.
  9. WYW is a concentrated FO that shouldn't be used at more then 3-4%, I have tried regular FO's too at 1 oz pp and it's the same. My container are a tumbler that is just under 3 inch. I'm on my third burn now and are getting a FMP and I _can_ feel the HT. I have cured this candle for 2 weeks, and I gave one away to a tester, maybe I just have candlenose. I have tried CD 12 and 14 before and now I have set up testers with CD 10 and 12. I will try to get up a photo if I found out how to do it :-) I sure can try to up the FO, but then I think I have to change FO, WYW is quite expensive since it's so concentrated. Thanks for the help :-)
  10. I have managed to get a beautiful soycandle with no soot, no wicktrimming needed and that burns the container clean and not too hot.....but I can't get it to throw much :-( I use a blend of CB-135 and Xcel 60/40, LX 22 wick and 4% FO (WYW that usually are 1/2 oz pp). EcoSoya is the only wax available here in Sweden, I blend the two because I like 135 the most but Xcel makes it look better, I get almost no wet spots and almost no frosting. So I can't change the wax. Have been thinking if I should add BW or change the wick, have set up some testers with CD, ECO and HTP. I have tried them before but always got too much soot, but I will try again, wicking down a bit. Anything else I can try?
  11. I guess no one have, I have ordered some testers and look forward to see how they do in soy
  12. I have a terrible time to get out my wickpins without my votives cracks a bit in the bottom, so I was looking for alternatives, anyone tried this? http://cart.candlesupply.com/product.php?productid=20334&cat=0&page=1 /Yvonne
  13. I did 1 candle using 1tsp CO pp and it did look much better, just a little wet spot. I will try to burn it later to see how it performs.
  14. I have been reading through old threads about adding coconut oil to soy candles. I wonder how did this work out in the long run? Is it anyone using it anymore and is it working? I use Xcel and B-135 and I have figured out the wick and are now working with frosting and wet spots...and I read somewhere that coconut oil would be good. I'm also worried that the candle would rancid, anyone experienced that? Well, I will make some candles with coconut oil to try for myself but it's always god to know what works in the long run.
  15. I'm using EcoSoya PB for my votives but when I remove the wickpin the bottom cracks and small parts of the votive falls off :-( It doesn't matter if I use moldrelease spray first Don't know what to do? I must place the votives in my freezer to be able to get the pin out. I'm thinking of mixing in CB-135 to make them a bit softer so they don't crack on me. Any suggestions?
  16. I now have tested a lot of different wicks and for me LX series is by far the best, no soot at all!!
  17. I wonder if anyone have tried the Escentcia scents from 4candles.co.uk?
  18. Ok, I will listen to you and Stella and give Xcel a new try, 100% Xcel. My problem with that wax is that I need to use really big wicks and the HT (but I should test and cure the candle 2 weeks) I think I will try ECO 12 and 14, RRD 50 and 55 and HTP 126 any more suggestions? maybe CD? I don't use much FO, only 3%, I use a really strong FO that dont require more (Wick your wax) Well, the testing continues... and I really appreciate all help :-) Ohh...the HTP 126 I tested in my 50% blend was way to big.
  19. Today I'm testing new wicks, I have set up HTP 105 and 126, RRD 50 and 55 and CD 14 and 16. The other containers have been fully burned and the RRD sooted less of them all followd by HTP.
  20. Both Xcel and CB-135 are soywax from the same manufacturer. I tested first with CB- 135 but couldn't get a nice smooth top, and I'm talking about 2 mounts of testing, then I tested Xcel instead and tested for months, but was forced to use very large wicks (ECO 14 for Xcel instead of an ECO 6 for CB-135) and wasn't pleased with the HT (after 2 weeks of cure) Thats why I decided to use a 50% blend, seams to work the best for me. Now with my last test, I have a batch with 3 % fo (WYW) no colour and are testing with a RRD 47 (40 was too small) ECO 6 and 8 (8 is doing better) and a HTP 105. Non gave a FMP with the first burn, now I'm in the third burn and almost half way down and get a FMP after 1,5 - 2 hours on all wicks. After approx 1 hour the mushroom starts (and I trim to 1/4 inch) before each burn, but it's not that big so it fells of but doesn't look good. Every time I tried a ECO I get sooting, even when I try a too small wick. Maybe it's the container. CD's was very similar to ECO's when I tried them, but I will test CD's some more. I will try to take a pic and show.
  21. Hi everyone, I found this forum for a couple of days ago and have been reading a lot. I started with candles for a couple of mounts ago and I'm still in the testing...testing seams to take forever!! I live in Sweden and shipping here takes forever, so when I realize I need something..it's just a couple of weeks waiting...so incredible frustration.. Well, I have decided to use a mix of Ecosoya Excel and CB 135 (50%) just because I think it's the best, Excel is nice for making them look good but need so big wicks and I'm not sure about the HT. Mixing with CB-135 seams to be perfect. (EcoSoya is the only soy wax available over here) Now to my current problem...I have purchased a lot of ECO's but I think they soot to much, I have also tested RRD and they doesn't soot but make kinda large mushrooms instead :-) I have alos tested LX (mushroom way too much) CD's (soot too much) HTP ( not that bad, similar to RRD's)) Witch is better? Soot or mushrooms?? I think I prefer mushrooms, then ppl maybe trim the wicks..lol.. I really can't stand the soot, makes my candles look nasty and not ecological at all. Ohh..I use a tumbler that is just under 3" (7 cm) 7 oz. Sorry for the length of my first post /Yvonne
