What's this smell on the ECO? I just started this hobby and I am using Eco's...perhaps I should try a different wick to see if I notice a difference.

I've been reading for months and finally attempted by first candles. I am using GB 444 , 9 oz bottle. ECO wicks from Candle Science. I poured two candles for testing (Same FO). One with ECO 10 Wick and the other with ECO 12. They burned almost identical ! . I thought it would be so obvious which of the two worked best. I did notice that the ECO 10's melt pool was a better width then the ECO 12. Do you trim the wick after each burn? I wasn't trimming and eventually noticed some mushrooming. So I poured another set with a different FO. This time I poured without the wick because I read in a thread here how it's easier to switch wicks if needed (hand't even thought about that). This FO is a little stronger then the other, so I am thinking it will need a higher wick size? I am afraid of starting to low and then getting tunneling. When you test this way do you start higher and them lower wick size as needed? Thanks for your input.

Thanks everyone. So I assume you all have multiple size wicks at your disposal. I purchased my wicks from CS and according to their guide, based on the size container I am using, they recommended an ECO 10. So I guess it would be smart to have some ECO 8 and ECO 12 on hand in case I need to wick up and down... I can see this will be an expensive hobby LOL.

Hello I am a newbie. I have been reading thread after thread on here for the past 2 weeks. It's amazing what a wealth of information is available in the simplest of threads! I ordered from peak and CS and can't wait to attempt my first candle! I have a quick question I can't seem to understand. When you guys mention wicking up or wicking down are you talking about trimming the wick shorter/longer or are you talking about actually using a thicker/thinner wick? What exactly happens to the candle in your test that leads you to conclude that you need to wick up or down? Thanks! Yaremis
