  1. Has anybody heard of this or made any of this? I ran across this shop on Etsy that is selling it and you pump out of a bottle into your warmer. It's almost like a lotion consistency. It looks like a good product and is a little different.

  2. Omg I thought is was me...mine did the sinking thing too. I did most of my batches in silicone molds and they sunk down in the middle. They didn't look that bad so I just kinda let it go but then I poured some in some clamshells and they turned out horrible. The cold and hot throw seems to be ok but the appearance is just not the business. I almost done with the bag so I need to be figuring out something else soon.

  3. When I first started doing shows another vendor (he made spicy relishes and salsas) gave me some advice. He told me that I'd sell more if I had less to sell. This guy had about 20 years of craft show experience, and he said that over the years he found that if he brought 10 different items, people would browse and move on, but if he had only 2 or 3, which he sampled, then people would make a decision and buy.

I've tried both at shows -- bringing a little bit of everything, and bringing only a few items, and I do tend to sell more when I have just a few things. The booth is less cluttered looking, and people aren't overwhelmed.

I agree that less is better. I do craft shows and I only take maybe 35% if that, of my products. First of all, its a pain trying to get all those items together for a craft show and second, lugging all that stuff back and forth can be hassle. Just make sure you have business cards or something so people can get in touch with you to order more and to see what else you have to offer.

  4. How long did you whip it? The longer you whip, the softer it can get. I haven't used Mango butter before but if it is hard like Cocoa butter then you need to add more oils to soften your mixture. Coconut oil is good and I think it helps the mixture stay somewhat on the softer side than getting all hard.

  5. I don't know..I might get bashed for saying this but even though I'm a candle maker, I would hate to have to smell someone else's choice of scent all day at work. I guess it would be okay if I liked the scent but what if I didnt' like it? Scent is so subjective. Like smelling someone else's perfume all day. Even if it smells great, it could cause problems to some people with sensitivities. If its in the work place, and other tenants are smelling it, that might be considered intrusive. Its not like they can leave. And not everyone would be brave enough to say something to you. Maybe put in smaller pieces so that the scent stays more limited to your personal space. Or I could be completely wrong, who knows.

oh I'm not going to bash you for your opinion. I totally see what you are saying. I have been burning different ones for the past 2 weeks and I think this kind is the only one that has been this strong. My coworker in the office next to me made a comment that she has been liking my tarts but she is the only one so I just assumed they were average with the HT. There are only 4 people in my office and we are not shy about telling each other stuff hahaha

  6. The maintenance guy at my job asked me if I had been smelling like a sweet smell for the last couple days. Immediately I knew what he was talking about. I have been burning my tarts in my burner in my office. You can smell it all the way out in the hall by the elevators!! He said that even one of the other tenants on the floor asked him about the smell and he had said maybe somebody is making some type of sweet coffee hahaha. He was really intrigued when I told him what it was. I am glad that I am getting such awesome HT but is too strong to be smelling like this all in the suite and in the hallway??

  7. i also have found..the half & half cartons work great..

you can get it in the 1/2 gal. size..and the pint size..

    (the ole fashioned milk cartons)

i lov it too, when we find something good that works, and not have

    to pay extra for it..

i will be looking for velvetta cheese...:)

i am ordering my first M&P from the co-op going on right now..

    so this will be great...

I love the half and half containers or any pint size milk carton. Just enough for around 3 bars of soap.

  8. Oh no I love WSP Black Raspberry Vanilla..it smells heavenly in soap and bath bombs. I made some tarts with it last week and they smell awesome too. I love their Green Tea and Cucumber as well and really don't want to find a replacement but these price hike are concerning me. I might try Peaks BRV when I run out.

  9. Candlewic is good for wax. I do not use their oils, but I use the CBL-130 for candles. They have some other nice waxes also, depending on what you are looking for. If you want some good, local oils, order from Backwoods Fragrance Supply. I love her oils. She is on my side of the state, about 10 minutes from me in Western PA...but shipping to you should be reasonable being that you are in PA. Also Fillmore container is in PA...I don't know how far from you right off, but they are good for candle jars. You also should try Candlescience if you haven't already. They are in NC, but ship reasonable and fast to PA and they have awesome oils as well. Plus, they are good for wicks and other supplies. HTH
I'm in PA (southeastern PA) too, about 40 minutes from C&S and buy quite a bit from them and have it the next day. Nature's Garden (Ohio) is another one I buy from and has quick shipping. Fillmore is in Lancaster, PA and is a 1 day ship for me (it's about an hour drive for me).

I've used Backwoods oils, they worked pretty good for me. CS has some nice oils too. As far as wax goes, I buy from CS, both container and tart wax. Though I think C&S has wax a little cheaper than CS. Not sure how their shipping rates compare to CS and other PA suppliers.

Thank you so much! I will have to check to see if they are open for business on Saturdays but one or two day shipping is great too.

  10. I am a novice at tarts but I think that pouring temp may be a little low. I don't know if it affects the HT or not. I am using that wax as well and have been pretty disappointed in the HT. I have tested it a few different ways to see if the HT will improve but I think once I use it up, I am gonna shop around for something else.

  11. Only 2 hrs?? I have one that's 2 hrs away, the other is 5 1/2...lol

Many people here would kill to be within a couple hours of suppliers. :)

hahahaha...I am not quite sure of that number or what suppliers are there but I know there are some in PA somewhere and that is roughly a 2 hour drive from where I am. I am seriously thinking about scoping some out and just taking a Saturday to go check it out.

ETA: All of these are basically 3 hours or so away. Are any worth the drive?

Keystone, CandleWic and Candle and Supply.

  12. my husbands card went last week but I've never used it for suppliers or paypal... they ended up finding out it was local, as in someone local got the numbers- we suspect someone that works at out favorite pizza joint, after all you call in your entire card number, exp, and the code on the back.. thats all they need...:shocked2: but no way to know just yet.

luckily, visa is AWESOME at catching it and called us after just two transactions, total less than $16, and they will catch them (they said) based on the shipping address and such.. one was local, one was an online purchase. They immediately flagged the account and they were stopped from any other purchases

UGHH!! There is nothing I hate worse than a thief. My husbands credit card was compromised a few months ago too. Someone was using it in Georgia. He had visited there a month or so prior. The bank said using your credit card at those ATM's at gas stations and 7-eleven type places are not safe because it it easy to get credit card numbers or something. Luckily the bank caught it after a couple of transactions and put a hold on it but they were able to get something from Walmart and Home Depot I believe.

  13. Same here but my Paypal account is fine and I really don't think it is a Paypal issue...did you ever use the card on a candle supply website?

I don't think its a paypal issue either. This has happened to me twice over the past couple of years but I think my cases were linked to things I bought from clothing stores. I hate when I want to order something and they don't use paypal. I have literally emptied my cart when I found out they only take debit and credit cards. I had read somewhere that employees of companies sell credit card numbers to be people. This is just scary. I would just be very careful about using your credit/debit card in general on websites even if it says they are on a secured network. There are crooks everywhere you turn.

  14. TCS for me, no questions about it - but trying to find a replacement because I don't want to run the risk of having a supplier discontinue their "own proprietary blend", as it's happened in the past with a few of them.

Never had much luck with the KY wax. Scent throw wouldn't last long at all and wasn't strong; still have uite a bit of it left, which I will eventually use in some application :rolleyes2

Combo that comes closest to my beloved TCS wax is 4794 and soy. Those who have tested my tarts tell me they average 3 days of non-stop "burning"; HTH

I am starting to regret that I ordered the KY because I am not getting the desired scent throw that I had hoped for. Do you think adding some more paraffin to it will help with the throw?

  15. I go by the standard measurements as if I were making a candle. 1 to 1.5 oz per pound. I normally only make a half a pound of tarts at a time though so I only use half of that.

  16. If the 8s do work out, buy a bag of wick bases and double the number of wicks. It really saves a lot of money and is easy to do. HTH

    Steve

Yup, I did that with some pre-assembled wicks. Now I just buy a 4 oz roll. I have more wick here than 10 people can use in nine lifetimes. Einstein has plenty to contemplate.

Wow thank you so much for this idea. Anything to save a buck and extendi my supplies. I am really hoping I get the desired results I need from this wick/wax combo.

  17. Thank you so much. Maybe I am just being paranoid. The wick just seems too big for the jar hahahaha..the site that I purchased the wicks from says they are for 2.5 to 3 inch diameter jars and the jelly jar is only 2 inches. I do have some half pint mason jars and the diameter is 2 inches as well. I think I will just go ahead and try it in the jelly jars.

  18. I ordered these wicks intending to use them on 4 oz jelly jars but someting is telling me it isn't going to work so I don't want to waste my time testing. I am thinking about going to the Dollar Tree tomorrow and picking up some container jars and was hoping I could get some suggestions on which ones to try. I will be using 70/30 or less of EcoSoya Advanced mixed with 4630. FO from Natures Garder Toffee Apple Crunch and Black Raspberry Vanilla from WSP. All suggestions will be appreciated.

  19. Hi- I am new as you can tell but I have been reading and researching the information on here for the last month or so. I finally decided to get some wax and dig in. I purchased the Ecosoya CB Advanced because I found a really good deal on it. I made some tarts a week or so ago with it and I used two different scents from 2 different companys and they both seem to be working really well. I did add coconut oil and vybar to help with the HT. I burned them for the first time last night and I could smell them on the 1st floor of my home and the burner was on the second floor. I do plan on trying the KY parasoy to do a comparison.
