  1. I think it is the nature of the beast, I use a clean barely damp rag to wipe off the "crumbs" .

Thanks. I really appreciate all your help! Makes me feel better about my shavings. I took a look at your shop. The Passionate Kisses soap has heart swirls in it! That is incredible.

Are your solid perfume tins actually pill cases? I'm looking for one that is like that rather than a hinged lid, those always break on me.

  2. For making tarts, you can use pretty much any silicone, the soft flexible kind or the stiffer kind. If you have any difficulty getting your tarts out, pop the mold in the freezer for 10 minutes. You can also use plastic but you need to know what the max temp you can pour the wax into the mold so that it doesn't warp.

  3. I bought a metal soap cutter miter box and the metal soap cutter blade thing. As I'm slicing my MP recipe from Prairie Annie, I'm getting a clean cut but lots of shaving on the top and the bottom. Is this typical? My only change to the recipe was substituting the jojoba with Olive oil in hopes of making it harder and not losing lather which I read jojoba can do. It's hard, maybe too hard? I'm brushing the shavings off but it is a mess. Nature of the beast? Oh, and I'm using the LCP, low sweat white base from Brambleberry.

  4. I've read about TBK Trading and their mica. I use liquid dye for my wax tarts so mica would be new to me. Not sure what to buy or how much to buy. About how much per lb of MP for medium intensity? Or does it depend on the color? The color of melted wax is very different than once the wax solidifies. Is it the same for MP melted vs solid?

  5. All I want to do is print color labels on matte white labels. No photos, speed not an issue, don't need for scanning or faxing, don't care it if is noisy. This one is wireless but don't really care about that feature. Looking for crisp font, no smudging, no jamming of label paper. That's it. Does this printer fit the bill?

  6. There are some great books that go into detail about the benefits of essental oils. I would read accepted experts for the most reliable information. Look for past issues of the Saponifier for great articles on essential oils. You must be exact in your blending and measurements and understand that some eos are dangerous and or toxic. Not to mention that quality eos are expensive. Infusions are the best bang for your buck IMHO

    Thanks, Steve. Who sells infusions?

  7. I have many of their molds for my scented wax tart business, I've only bought their multiple cavity molds. Excellent, very happy with them. Great communication, answered my questions and shipped promptly. I think it took less than a month to receive them from the time of my order to receiving. I have ordered from them three times.

  8. Hi! I wanted to make the OMH the same night but I forgot to buy oatmeal. We use the instant in this house. I'm on a roll!!! I hope to be adding my recipes to that thread someday soon! I really want to learn how to "suspend" the oatmeal or lavender buds or whatever. I love the look of that in soap but think maybe that is only accomplished with CP?

  9. Thank you, thank you! Wish I could name you all. I feel like I'm making an Oscar speech:yay:

    , us

I had several moments of complete panic but all turned out just fine. My soap is lathery and quite bubbly, too. Never made a bar of soap in my life. I'm all about scented wax tarts and that is it.

I used Brambleberry LPC Low Sweat White M&P base and followed PrarieAnnie's recipe EXCEPT I eliminated the jojoba oil as I read on a thread jojoba could hinder bubbles or lather. I substituted the jojoba for olive oil as I read that olive oil would make the bar harder. I used canned goat milk instead of power, used regular store brand honey, nothing from a farm, used EVOO from the grocery store, used Dr. Bonner's Baby unscented formula liquid soap. All other ingredients I bought online. Wanted other newbies to know store bought is fine if you can find it!

Here is my question. I would like it to be more moisturizing. I only used it to wash my hands but felt my skin was a little bit tight after my hands were dry. Should I add more shea butter? Maybe substitute the jojoba with shea instead of the olive oil? I will experiment but trying to save a bit of money by asking for opinions before I become a mad scientist.

  10. I think she is referring to the wave like layers and not the crinkle cut.

It reminds me of a 'wave' candle technique where you let each layer cool a bit. Then you press the wax and it bulges out creating a wavy look. Works fantastic with wax.

Wondering if this is a similar technique. If so, try letting the first layer cool down enough you can press on it to create a bulge. You may even want to include setting your mold at an angle too. Let us know how it works out if you try it.

Another technique may be to rock the layer back and forth.

Oops. I'm over enthusiastic soap newbie. I think I'll stick to asking questions instead of answering questions ;)

  11. Occasionally I use a metal bread loaf pan when I want a "loaf soap". I let it cool thoroughly and put it in the freezer for about 15 minutes. Then I turn the mold upside down and hit the bottom several times to loosen up the soap. It usually pops out after a couple of hard whacks.

    Thank you, again, very much.
