  1. I do a simple soak with hot water and vinegar, then pour in baking soda while my feet are soaking. The mix fizzes (fun) and feels wonderful. I also soak bee stings and bites in this mix - it takes down swelling right away.
  2. Red, I would love some help with my formula if you have yours down. I'm doing: Sample batch size: .5 oz oil 1.75 oz Cocoa butter .5 oz each of e-wax and shea butter .75 oz of stearic It's nice, but not as silky as I would like. It drags a bit. Is yours much different?
  3. I make one with cocoa butter, e-wax, a little shea butter, a little oil (whatever I'm in the mood for), and some stearic to harden it up a bit. I also make the same bar in scrub form with salt. I'm still developing the bar, but I like it so far!
  4. My DH and Mom are my "everyman" testers. They are both clueless about product ingredients, etc, so if they are great for a basic user opinion. Then I give samples to my crafter friends as well, for constructive criticism. Somewhere in there I'm bound to get honest feedback! :smiley2:
  5. It's not for sale, just for fun! I wouldn't sell anything claiming spf without getting a proper spf rating - actually I've been doing this for thirteen years and don't sell anything at all. I make all my own products, and supply my family and friends. I craft because I enjoy it, and that's good enough for me! 10% TD will yield an spf rating of about 20, though you would have to go through FDA regulations to claim this in anything you are selling. But for a California July it's nice to add a little sunscreen to your personal balm and protect your lips! You could add TD to any balm for a little extra protection - regardless of what you want to call it.
  6. Hey crafters! I just posted this in the B & B section, and thought it might be appreciated here. Here is a simple sunscreen lip balm recipe (I think I modified it from the one on www.pvsoap.com). I did this a few years back, so I don't remember all of my percentages, but here is what I have written down: 2 tsp. beeswax 1 1/2 tsp. cocoa butter 2 tsp. shea butter (or other) 1/2 tbs. sesame oil 1/4 tsp. vitamin E oil 1/4 - 1/2 tsp. titanium dioxide Tint and Flavor as desired I think the 1/4 tsp yields an spf 10-15. Sesame oil has some sunscreen abilities as well (or substitute avocado oil, which also has mild sunscreen ability). The TD will settle, so stir a lot and work quickly. I hope you like it!
  7. I know it's not a base, but here is a sunscreen lip recipe (I think I modified it from the one on www.pvsoap.com). 2 tsp. beeswax 1 1/2 tsp. cocoa butter 2 tsp. shea butter (or other) 1/2 tbs. sesame oil 1/4 tsp. vitamin E oil 1/4 - 1/2 tsp. titanium dioxide Tint and Flavor as desired I think the 1/4 tsp will yield an spf 10-15 (spf 20 would be 10% of recipe), and sesame oil has some sunscreen abilities as well. The TD will settle, so stir a lot and work quickly. Maybe see if you like it!
  8. I went ahead and ordered some. I will let you know if my lip balms stay smooth in a California July!
  9. Hello crafters! I'm new to this forum - what a great find! I am curious to know if anyone has tried the high melt-point shea butter from the sage? I am so curious to try this product. They say it will solve the problem of fractionating. Does this product work? I hope so!
