  1. Mary ... I also have some surgery on the horizon so know what you mean about wanting to really get behind making some tarts. I'm hoping to get some made in the next day or two. Best of luck to both of us surgery-wise :smiley2:

    Blessings,

    Shirlee

I'll keep you in my prayers Shirlee when you have your surgery. Hope it's nothing serious. Just not a good time for both of us! But can't plan these things. I'm loving this new wax and since I found out about the zip lock bags issue I'm sure that will make a big difference! Love the things we learn on this site. :yay:

  2. Ravens... I don't have a clue what would make the weight different but you have a good thought about fragrance oil.

I will definitely let all of you know how it is going when I start testing, so... exticted!

Yes Mary, please let us know how your testing is going, inquiring minds want to know.

    Sharon Kay

Hey Sharon, haven't been on for the last couple of days been to doctors appointments. Need to have knee surgery so I'm fixing to try and get back to it fast and hard. Will let you know!! Great to hear from you!

  3. SharonKay, let us know when you start playing with it. I placed my order a couple of days ago; running low on the wax..... and I just can't have that :rolleyes2

I have several new FO I'd like to try, but my sinuses are all messed up:sad2:

wonder how Mary0050 is doing? Bet she's having a ball playing with TCS wax!

Hey you guys, sorry I haven't been on but did you get my question about the paper you use? I think it's right about your clamshell pictures WHICH ARE GREAT!!! I've had doctors visits this week and have to have knee surgery so I'm fixing to really get behind making my tarts and will let you know.

  4. That's what I had been told too ... that the plastic in the Ziploc type bags sucks the scent right out of the tarts. Someone clued me in on that last year hereon this forum ... thank goodness :)

If you gals go to the Janis Joplin museum you'll have to let me know what it was like. I saw her in concert when I was a teenager (my first date actually!) & had a big poster of her in my room. What a talent she was. It's a shame her addictions ended her life like they did.

    Blessings,

    Shirlee

Would you believe I have never been there! Every year we have a Janis Joplin Tribute concert with bands that were famous down here like the Boogie Kings. They did concerts together when she started. I need to go by there. If I do I'll let you know and try and send you guys some pictures if they let me take them.:)

  5. Hello, Mary0050

The Janis Joplin museum sounds cool; if I do head your way, I will let you know for sure.

From what I've heard and read, zip lock bags will suck the scent out of the tarts. When you buy "plastic" bags make sure they're polypropylene, NOT polyethylene. I let my tarts cure in lined Kraft bags. I'm sure you could let the tarts cure in some type of glass container also; in fact that's where I store my inventory of tarts, in those large glass containers with metal lids that you can buy at Walmart. HTH, and ttyl :smiley2:

Hi Raven, I found a website "Paper Mart" that sells the linded kraft bags. They are $15.54 for 100 does that sound reasonable? I checked other clear bags at the dollar tree and 99c store but none of them tell you what they're made from. Thanks!

Thanks so much Raven, that answers the question why my tarts started out strong but were weak. I had never heard that, that's why this is the best forum on the internet! Thanks again!

  7. Nmhoneybear, there is not a hint of pine in Winter Night; it vaguely reminds me of Celtic Moonspice from AH.

Just sent a response to your PM. :smiley2:

You're going to love Peak's White Tea & Ginger in the Candle Source wax; one of my best sellers!

Ravens, I purchased the White Tea Y Ginger from the candle supplier close to my house. Can't wait to try it. Is there a reason you can't cure tarts in ziploc bags? Is there something else since I do not now the bags you use? Thanks and if your ever down this way since you live in Texas too let me know and we'll visit the Janise Joplin museum I heard it was nice. Thanks!

  8. Mary 0050, glad you got your wax. I really hope you will like it as much as I do and that it'll work just as well as it does for me.

I know some people say that paraffin does not need to cure, but I try to keep my little paws off the finished tarts for at least 3 days... don't always succeed:rolleyes2

If you have Peak's White tea&ginger, you've GOT to try it in this wax. A lady I know called me yesterday and she said she wants 3 pounds of White tea & ginger tarts!

You're in Port Arthur? I live in the same State, north-east corner, right on the border!

Back to the Candle Source wax...This afternoon I had Winter Night melting; it's such a wonderful fragrance, I think it's perfect for Fall, not just the Winter season... It scented my whole house just great!

Well, better not start my usual babbling; good luck with your new wax and keep us posted :smiley2:

Ravens, I'm like you, can't keep my hands off! But will order both of the fo's you recommended. Shirlee said in her response your not suppose to put them in zip lock bags. I DID NOT KNOW THAT!! That's how I cure all my tarts. Could that be that's what's causing some of my problem? Ya'll must try Ginger (Origins) with Bergamont from Natures Garden. IT'S THE BOMB!! I'll let ya'll know my results now that I think I have a better wax to work with. Can't thank ya'll enough for all your help. People like Shirlee and I are new to this and ya'll save us so much money and time. Can't wait till I can be of help. Now let me go and unbag my tarts since their in zip lock bags. So glad to know not to do that!! Have a great Columbas Day weekend!:yay:

  9. That's quite alright, Shirlee. I was just puzzled and thought "Wow, I've been using this wax all this time and never realized it has soy in it?!"

Not sure if you ordered it, but if you did, please take a look at it and let me know what you think. IMO, it is very white and the texture is different from all the other paraffins and parasoy waxes I've used. The difference in texture is especially evident to me when I cut it, not just by looking at the surface of the slab.

Would LOVE to know what's in it!

Ravens, I JUST received my order boy that was quick! I was getting confused like Shirlee with all the selections so I went with the first one the Container Blend that is what you use isn't it? I'm so glad you get the melting and pouring instructions because it came with no paperwork and I can't find anything on the website about what temp to pour and went to add fo.

Shirlee, I'll let you know how my melts go I'm going to start on them this week end! Also Raven, how long do you let yours cure before trying your candles and tarts? Thanks for all your help!! I was about to give up on making tarts and their are popular here in Pt. Arthur Texas! Thanks again:yay:

  10. Mary ... you are having better luck with your tart scents than I am. Mine smell great when they've been made & they smell great in the baggies but I get nothing when they're melting. I'm hoping it's because I was using 100% soy. I've ordered some of the parasoy from Candlesource as well per Ravens recommendation & can't wait to try it. I ordered it via the website & paid but never got any kind of response saying it had been shipping or was going to be shipped or there's a delay or anything. I was a bit uncomfortable ordering it because the site said shipping would be added later & I like to know what my shipping is going to be up front. I ordered last week & haven't heard anything so hopefully I will soon.

    Blessings,

    Shirlee

Hi Shirlee I ordered mine and I'm just like you I did not like not knowing how much the shipping was. My order for the wax was around 15.50. Then today I received a bill for the shipping and it was 12.50. I live in texas so have not idea if that's reasonable or not. Let's keep in touch and share results. Were you using IG wax also? I've been getting mine from a candlestore only 10 miles away so I'm spoiled with not paying shipping. The IG 4630 is working ok for my container candles. I have read that the 100% soy has problems with some of the fo's but I've never tried it. Let's hope we have better luck with this one! God Bless and let you know when my order arrives and how it goes!:)

  11. I add the FO around 170, pour at 150 for tarts.

When I pour for candles I really don't care about the little dip (meaning I don't do repours) because I'm still experimenting with wicks, so looks take on secondary importance for now.

If it helps any, Loren suggests zinc wicks - but of course I have to make my life more miserable so I try every other wick but zincs, then I'll bi*ch and moan.:rolleyes2

Ravens, thanks for the information on the wax from Candlesource. I just ordered from them because I TIRED of working with IG 4794! I have tried everything ya'll have suggested and they only smell for one day! Some only smell for about 4 to 5 hours. It's been frustrating and I was about to give up and decided to give it one more try with a different wax. Thanks for your help! Mary

  12. HI Welcome :)

Your problem may depend on a few things. First your votive wax 4641 has a melt point of 152*, which is higher than some votive waxes. I use IGI 4794 votive wax in my blend and that has a melt point of 128*.

Or perhaps your warmer isn't getting warm enough. Try using less of your votive wax to see if that helps. Clamshells are fun and easy to make aren't they!

I also use this same wax and was wondering how long your tarts & clamshells scent last? Some of mine will smell for maybe 2 days and my new ones I recently poured with the new scents from the 99c sale at AH/RE only smell for about 2 hours after completely melted. I'm having trouble with different scents. I melt to the required 175 degrees then add my fo and stir about 2 minutes and pour immediately. Does that sound right to you? Thanks for any help!

  13. :rolleyes2

I did light them and while the scent throw was awesome I just couldn't get past the little puffs of black smoke.

I haven't given up but I'm not going to drive myself crazy trying to perfect these either, I poured them purely for curiousities sake.

:rolleyes2I use the same wax and understand how frustrating it can be. But everyone on this board have helped with different suggestions and I've narrowed it down to 44-32-18z for my 8 oz jars and 60-44-18z for my 10oz apothacary jars. Zinc wicks have been highly recommended by everyone so that's what I settled with. Still testing and will let you know if I find something better. Maybe we can send each email with test results and compare notes. Hope everything works out but don't give up. You definitely have experts on this forum very willing to help. Good luck! and hope I could be of some help.

  14. I can't smell my candles anymore, but others say they smell good so I will go with it...lol:rolleyes2

I use 4630 in my blend and I use zinc wicks and quite honestly you just have to test more then one scent, try another scent with same and different wicks see if that makes a difference. :smiley2:

Your right and that's just what I did! Some of my first batch which have been curing for almost a month smell great! This weekend my sister said the one I just gave her smelled her whole living room and kitchen! Thanks everyone for the help and encouragement! Have a great Labor Day!:yay:

  15. I'm using glass jars with a 3.5" diameter and HTP wicks 73 6" and 83 6" (tried both).

I use the same wax you do but was told Zinc wicks were the best and have been using those but not satisfied with my scent throw either on some fo's. The ladies are this forum are the best and will help us. I'm new also and hope to be able to help you someday. I'm determined not to give up! Ladies, do ya'll think the HTP wicks are better? That could be my problem also so I'll order a sample pack of HTP wicks. Thanks!!

  16. A big HUGE 2nd for this FO. :yay: Also BNL has a Sweet Pea FO at BCN, I recently got some samples of it, oob it's very nice but I haven't put it in wax yet (I use 464 blended with a bit of 6006). So far I've found that the BNL FOs I've tried have all been awesome with amazing hot & cold throws! :bliss:
If you don't mind my asking you mix 464 & 6006. Have you ever used 4630? I'm having the same problems with Cucumber Melon and Sweet Pea. I order from a supplier not far from my house called "Melting Pot" in Vidor Tx. I only have a couple of my containers that have great throws, Creme Brulee, and Bird of Paradise. I fight with everything else and can't seem to hit on the right fo's that work with this wax. I've heard by everyone it's a great wax and was trying to save on shipping by using someone close since I'm on disability. But sick of wasting money. Thought about adding a little bit of Vybar to maybe help with the hot throw. Your opinion is greatly appreciated and everyone who helps us newcomers are wonderful! God Bless!!
  17. my tips... scent to the max.. for me thats up to 1.75-2oz per pound. I use a pillar blend soy wax, and mine last for days, but not 24 hours a day of course, lol. Probaby at least 8 hours a day, but at different times, I just switch them on when I'm in the room and off when I leave, generally. another thing I do is not overload my burner, and I tell my customers this tip too... add one block.. then half a block.. another half... until it loses all scent. That way its a gradual release of scent, instead of burn up a block, toss, another, toss, another, toss...
If you don't mind me asking which pillar blend wax do you use? I was told the IGI 4794 is a pillar blend. Do you know if that's correct? Thanks!!!
  18. I didn't really care for 4794 wax for tarts. I thought the scent throw was lite and didn't last long. I know a lot swear by it but it just wasn't for me. I use KY's votive/tart wax or I use JS 50/50 votive wax for tarts. HTH

Thanks Cindy, I think I will try another wax and I've heard good things about this wax. Thanks!

  19. :yay:Thanks to all of you guys! I'll try what you guys said. I use the IGI4794 from a supplier close to my house. I did not realize all the waxes were different from each supplier. I'll order from someone else and try that. It's just so nice to not have to pay shipping! But not worth it if it's not top quality! Thanks again!
