  1. For those of you that use the container wax from candlesource, do you cure your wax before melting? I know that is necessary with soy, but I didnt think it was needed with paraffin. I made a batch yesterday afternoon and melted a couple of those tarts this afternoon and didnt smell much at all. I used the pumpkin vanilla from candlesource which had pretty good reviews, so I had high expectations. I am not sure if my sniffer is broken, or if I need to let them cure a bit more before melting.

I made a couple more batches today (mulled cider & grandmas zucchini bread) with the same wax (1lb to 1oz) so I am hoping those do better.

    Thanks.

  2. I use 50/50 OK6228 and J223 and don't need to do a repour...ever. They come out with smooth tops and no dips every time and not picky with the temp I pour at. I can pour anywhere between 160 and 185 and they come out the same every time. It's a very forgiving and very easy combo of wax to work with.:wink2: I just had a thought...Could be the tart molds that I use as the reason for this. They are not your standard molds. Mine are almost exactly like Yankee candles but about 1/4" wider in diameter and the depth appears about the same. The standards are quite deep compared to the ones I use, that's probably why you guys might need to do a repour.

    Hi Fern & Hawaiinsun,

Can I ask which supplier the OK6228 & J223 are purchased from?

    Thanks!!!

  3. Well I received the container wax from candlesource today. That was so fast. I ordered it Thursday night so kudos to them!

So, now this question is more about logistics. For those of you that use slabs of wax, how do you store it and how do you typically divide it into 1 lb increments? I am not sure if it would be best to pre-measure it out (kind of like breaking down the hamburger meat before freezing it ha ha) into 1 lb sections, or if I should just break it into chunks for easy storage and then weight it out as needed.

    Thanks everyone!

  4. I actually just found some on Bittercreek (North I think). They specifically state they are the polyPRO and there are 100 in a pack for 1.99. That works for me... If anyone knows of other suppliers that carry them, I would still love the input. I didnt plan to order anything from BCN, but I might now since they have the bags.

    Thanks

  5. Do you know if any FO suppliers carry the polypro bags? Because I only do this as a hobby, I really dont need huge quantities of the bags. I checked some of the companies mentioned in this thread (as well as a few others that specialize in packaging) but noticed they sell them in cases, usually 1000 units or more. I wouldnt know what to do with all of those. I am looking for maybe about 100 bags just for my own use and thought I could get them when I place my next order for FO. I thought about getting some at Walmart or Hobby Lobby but according to some of the other threads, those are not the Poly PRO bags.

    Thanks again for any input!!!

  6. I am still fairly new to this so have been sampling a lot of FO's. I have been ordering a lot of the FO's that seem to be favorites on this board. When I smell some in the bottle, they dont smell that great (to me) even though they have great reviews so I havent tried them in wax. Is it typical for a scent to smell better in wax than it does in the bottle, or does it usually end up about the same in wax? I was curious about others experience with this.

    Thanks!!!

  7. Just to give everyone an update...I just got ahold of the owner and they will be back up for business and processing/shipping orders on Monday. Apparently they went on vacation and had a problem with the site while they were gone and didn't realize it was down. The site should be back up shortly if it isn't already.

  8. Thanks Ravens. That does really help!!!

I checked the Candlesource website and maybe I missed it, but how many lbs of wax is in 1 slab? Is that a 1 LB slab? Also, is it easy to break it into smaller pieces? I only do this as a hobby (although the amount of money I have put into it already, some would think otherwise) so I have only used 100 soy, and the KY blend, which are both scoopable and very easy to use so I wasnt sure how much of a pain it would be to use the big slabs.

    Thanks again!!!

  9. Hi Ravens

Can I ask with wax on the Candlesource you use? Is it the Container blend or the Pillar Votive wax? And also, do you have a preference between the Candlesource wax versus the Candlewic CBL129?

    Thank you!

  10. ok, so I answered my own question about the pipette (love google)... Thanks again everyone. This gives me some ideas to think about and figure out which way I am going.

This truly is only a hobby for me but I tend to get a little OCD in whatever hobby I pick up and I think making the tarts is going to be a keeper for me. This is a lot of fun and my house smells great. For just doing this as a "hobby" which I started a couple of weeks ago, I have already managed to accumulate 20+ lbs of wax and 39 bottles of FO and a lot of yummy tarts... Eek... some hobby!!!!

  11. I have found the link for the fragrance oil finder to be really helpful. I have searched by just a single word or scent and it brings up anything with that ingredient & its description. That might be helpful to find what you are looking for (although I have found that it is not 100% updated with all scents). I know the link to the fragrance oil finder is somewhere on this message board. I have the link saved to my favorites but not sure if I am allowed to post it here or not. Maybe someone can help direct you better than me. I am still finding my way around this board.

  12. This is a bummer (especially since I had an order pending). I was going to get the phone number from their website and call them about it today, but since their site is down, I dont think I will bother. Darn, I was looking forward to trying their sweet pumpkin pie scent.

  13. I am not sure if this is the proper place to post this. If not, please feel free to move this post.

Does anyone know if Heartfelt is open for business? I placed an order last Wed and havent heard anything. My order hasnt processed nor have I received a response to a couple of emails. I havent tried calling them yet (that is my next step) so I thought I would see if anyone here knows first.

    Thanks.

  14. Thanks for the input. I guess I was initially thinking that the paper cup would absorb some of the oil, but I guess the dixie cups have a wax lining that would prevent absorbtion. I think I will get some of those pop-up caps to use with my bottles and then dixie cups to weigh smaller portions in. Thanks again for the suggestion.

  15. Thanks for the info Ecco! I will make some smaller batches so as not to waste so much wax.

May I ask another silly question? When I attempt to pour FO from say a 4 oz bottle into a smaller bottle to weigh out 1 oz (or even less), it makes a huge mess and dribbles all over the side. What method do you (or any others that would like to add input) use to weigh smaller increments of FO? Do you pour a portion of FO into an empty FO bottle to measure the amount needed using a small funnel (to avoid the dribbles), or do you weigh smaller portions in a small glass bowl? I would love to hear tips from anyone that has a process that works great. Thanks!

  16. Hi there,

I have what is probably a silly question for all the experts but I couldnt seem to find the answer (and I have spent countless days on this board) All of the info that you all post is so very helpful by the way. I am making tarts only as a hobby, for personal use and to give as gifts.

So on to my question(s)...I have seen posts about the q-tip test, by dipping a q-tip into a scent and throwing it in a baggie to see how the scent smells (especially when combining scents), but I have read that a scent doesnt always smell the same in the bottle (or on a q-tip) as it does in wax. Is that true with your experience? Is there a way to test a scent in wax without using the whole lb of wax and 1 oz of scent? Can you test in wax with a small sample of wax/scent, to make just a couple of tarts and then melt those to see how it smells before you make a whole batch of a scent that you really dont like?

All opinions & methods would be appreciated. Thanks much!

  17. Hello,

I am new to this forum and I am hoping all of the experts here can provide input. I have been reading and reading some more to find the best pumpkin scent, but after all the reviews, I can not make up my mind. I am looking for the best "no spice" Pumpkin Pie FO, with exceptional hot throw. I am trying to find something with little or no spice and more on the sweeter side. I will be using 100% soy. The more opinions the better and thanks so much!!!
