  1. I actually did try this in the grade a and really do like it. I think it smells really good and no fuel smell. I am really sensitive to the fuel smell too. I can even detect it in SOCP from Millcreek which most seem to not pick up on. So I am happy with their orange vanilla I was just hoping that someone might have tried the manufacturers grade since it's so much cheaper!

I'll probably order a sample to try with my next order and will keep you posted!

The other thing I wanted to try was to make my own with a good solid orange. Wasn't sure if their was a good basic orange out there, if I should use an orange EO or I thought about mixing a vanilla with my SOCP from MC to see if that woudl help neutralize the fuel smell for me.

  2. Has anyone tried this and tested the grade a and manufacturers grade side by side?

I purchased the "a" grade of this and really like it. But the price difference between the a grade and manufacturers grade is huge.

I guess my biggest concern in does the manufacturers grade still throw well and do you get a fuel smell with that one?

  3. I am stumped. I am doubting if I even wicked this the way I wrote it down!:shocked2: I am test burning a lot of my testers tonight and both containers that I poured this in don't seem to be burning that well in comparison to the others. It seems like I need to wick up on CS rain water. Really? I would never dream that I would need to wick up on this fragrance which is why I can't figure out what the heck I did with this one!

  4. I am not even sure how to search the thread for this using the searach feature so forgive me if this has been asked and answered.

I am currently testing 4 different sized containers. All my variables are the same except for the containers and the wicks. I am using 6006 with added soy. Using olive blossom fragrance all poured out of the same batch. I am really liking the cd wicks that I have been playing around with. All the containers I poured have cd wicks in them but I am playing around with different wick sizes.

My question is this. I seem to have very minimal mushrooming if any on all the containers/fragrances I have wicked to test. On three out of the 4 containers of the olive blossom batch they are all burning well with minimal mushrooming. On one of the containers (a 11 oz tureen) I double wicked it as it has a 3 1/4 diameter. One of the wicks looks normal and one has a pretty decent sized mushroom.

I did the first three hour test burn on these and I can tell that the 11 oz tureen is over wicked. Large melt pool. The part that I am confused about is the mushroom. I know some fragrances mushroom more than others-like vanillas. I was thinking for some reason that when your container is underwicked you tend to get more of a mushroom. However this container is getting pretty hot with lots of melt after 3 hours.

I tested the 20 oz tureen (3 3/4 diameter) and the 11 oz tureen (3 1/4 diamter) side by side. I double wicked the 20 oz with 2 cd 8's. I double wicked the 11 oz with 2 cd 7's. The 20 oz seems to be doing well so far. Good melt pool. Not complete yet but I think it's going to catch up and do what it's supposed to do.

The 11 oz however is burning a little too hot. Is it normal in a double wicked application for one wick to mushroom a lot and the other not? It wasn't drafty in the area I was testing.

I know this is why we test each fragrance but I wicked the 11 oz with 2 cd 8's for an orange vanilla last week and it seemed to do well. No mushrooms and not too hot.

    The 11 oz with 2 cd 7's

    Here's a picture if I can do this right!IMG_8673.jpg

    Here's the 20 oz with 2 cd 8's:

This may end up being too hot once I get down to the bottom part of the jar but thinking I'll need it for the fatter middle.

  5. I can't give you accurate information but I believe it's around 80% paraffin and 20% soy as well. I seriously thought I saw more detailed information about this at BC saying it was 30% soy and 70% paraffin but don't see it there anymore.

Also Taylored Concepts has their own brand called Taylored replacement and they say you can compare it to IGI 6006 and their taylored replacement has 70% paraffin, 20% soy and 10% petro. However they do seem to be slightly different as I had some Taylored left over from 2-3 years ago and decided to play with a little just for grins and decided that the Taylored poured a little smoother in regards to sink holes and so forth but I was getting a better throw from my 6006.

  6. I just ordered a few to try and here's what I ordered based on reviews and what I wanted to try:

    pumpkin cornbread

    backwoods blue

    vanilla sugar

    pink pearberry

    gingerbread latte

    pistachio dream cake

    cashmere and pearls

    breeze in the keys

    pomegranate and peaches

    lilac

    amazingly graceful

    frosted orange danish

    hazelnut coffee

    passionfruit and guava

    humingbird

I actually meant to order honeyed gingerbread. Not sure how I left that off. Obviousy not all of these are fall scents but I should get them on Monday and plan to put some of them in wax next week and will be happy to give you a review after I get them if you haven't ordered yet.

  7. Oh...great...thanks for the info Glittergirl, I'm going to give it a try...are there any other great FO's from CMS while I'm there?

Isbennis I just responded about this in another thread. My friend really liked the orange vanilla. I also really like the orange danish from here. More than NG's version. JMO of course.

  8. bah67-just to update you. My friend that really loves orange vanilla emailed me and told me that the candlemakers store orange vanilla was her favorite of all the testers I sent over. The testers were random things and not all orange scents. This is what she sent me: " it's awesome - it is strong on the vanilla but there is a clear orange smell as well and it's just a happy smell! It's strong too (which I like - but not too strong) - I burned it in my guest room upstairs and i could faintly smell it in my living room downstairs"

I'll test it myself when I get it back from her later this week.

I am testing the orange danish from CMS right now and I really like that one too.

I also ordered the orange dreamsickle from there as well. It smells good OOB but I am not sure when I'll put it in wax.

I also ordered samples of apple butter and christmas eve based on a few recommendations. I haven't put these in wax yet either and not sure what I think yet.

  9. This is so funny how people pick up on certain things. I just decided to light the NG orange sherbet that I poured and right away I smelled the fuel smell on that one too. It gave me a headache and I had to blow it out.

I do usually test on the high end and then back down after the first tester. So I am going to try a couple of these at 1 oz per pound instead of 1.5 oz per pound and see if that works. I really like the CT on the SOCP a lot.:D

Carrie I'll have to try it at 1 oz per pound since you use the exact same wax combo that I do. I actually think I got that tip from you and bugtussle.

Have y'all tried neroli? It's the from the blossoms of the bitter orange, very sweet, more reminiscent of orange blossoms than actual orange fruit... has a spicier fragrance than just floral, though - east Indian, middle eastern or oriental. I LOVE it - very strong. It mixes well with lots of other fragrances like vanilla, patchouli, nag champa, rain, sandlewood, amber... I've used it from JBN and SOS and loved both! :D

Stella I just got a free sample of Neroli form Bramble Berry. I haven't put it in was yet though.

and i also lov lov Trapps orange vanilla...i would lov to find one like it..it is just outstanding..

the only orange i have found that i really like too...it ICS Orange Chiffon Cake..

8-Gran-Ones I read on this board that Taylored Concepts has a trapp orange vanilla dupe. Haven't tried it myself but if you ever order from there you might try a sample of it.

  10. I had this happen on my recent candle science order. I am sure they would have taken care of it but I didn't even bother to call. It was my sunwashed linen sample and it spilled everywhere and I really don't like that fragrance right now because it is still clinging to some of my sample bottles!;)

I have to admit at the time I was especially bummed because I ordered quite a few samples and they all came in a padded envelope-no box and I still got charged $10 or $11 for shipping. Although I did still order a bunch from their sample sale.

So I think it can and does happen. I agree that you should call them tomorrow and see what they have to say. They have always been friendly to me when I have dealt with them. I think these things happen it's more of a matter if it consistently happens that would really bother me.

I have a lot of their fragrance oil as they were one of the first suppliers I found out about. A lot of it I don't really even use as back then I wasn't smart enough to get samples! What did you not get that you wanted? If I have it I'll be happy to mail you a sample. Feel free to pm me.

My one complaint with them is that their order notification system isn't an itemized breakdown of your order.

  11. You know I picked up on a fuel smell with SOCP from MC. I just poured some the ther night with a little less FO and added a very small amount of vanilla to see if that tones it down.

Those that use this FO and do well with it and like it...how much % of FO are you putting per pound? I use 6006 with extra soy. I am wondering if wax choice has anything to do with the fuel smell or not? I know it affects the scent throw of course.

Now I am wodering if that article is true and some people are more sensitive to it than others.

  12. I don't use your wax and use 6006 with extra soy added in and I poured the SOCP at 1.5 oz and 1 oz per pound. I actually thought the 1.5 oz was too strong. I haven't burned the one at 1 oz yet. But at 1.5 oz I definitely didn't think it was weak if that helps. Never tried the others on your list.

  13. I hear you guys. I think I am like Isbennis and start thinking hmmm...maybe this combination is really better and will make my candles that much better.

The funny thing is that one of the main reasons I wanted to get away from the zinc was the mushroom and the cd still does it some too (I think they probably all do this a litlte bit) but now I noticed that I think I like the flame on the cd's better. It never ends!:P

  14. Their orange vanilla gets good reviews. I purchased a sample and poured it. I am letting a friend that loves orange vanilla test it out because I can't tell if it has enough throw. I use a parasoy blend too. I am hoping to get some feed back from her tomorrow. I am trying to take a few days break to give my nose a chance to "smell" again. I am not trusting it lately.

I really like the orange danish from there. The cold throw smells heavenly. I think it will be great in the fall. I ordered NG's orange danish to try as well and at first I didn't think I liked that one near as much but as it has cured for a few days I think it has a nice smell too. Maybe more vanilla and orange smelling where the CMS version has more of a fall bakery type scent if that makes sense. I haven't burned any of them yet but if you haven't ordered by the time I burn them this week I'll give you my thoughts.

They also have really good prices on wick-stick ums. I just ordered some to try myself.
