The problem could be in the glue sticks, especially if you've purchased new ones. Double-check to be sure they are the hi-temp variety. We had the same problem recently, and it was because hubby had picked up a bag that didn't specify hi-temp.

What is your hot throw like? Honestly, I doubt many people are going to complain about the quality of the visual appearance of the melt pool so long as the hot throw is good. Just my opinion

Depending on how much wax you want to start with, I would make a "full" batch and pour it into ice cube trays. When cool, take them out and bag them. Then, figure out how many it takes to fill the mold. Ex. if each of the "fancy" molds takes 6 oz of wax to fill, and each cube is 1 oz, you would need 6 cubes to make one batch. When ready to make a batch, only melt down 6 cubes. That way, you are not reheating the large batch over and over and losing scent each time.
HTH
This is a wonderful tip!!!! Thank you!

LOL I love this line from the article:
The process of making soy candles is easy.
That's like saying "Jumping out of an airplane is easy."
There is necessary testing and preparation required to achieve the desired end result in both endeavors!

One word of advice about the tins---they get very hot. We did a short run of these and weren't happy with the extreme temperature of the container vs a jelly jar, so we've discontinued them.

One way to NOT put out a fire (particularly if it's a pizza igniting in an electric oven) is to through the canister of flour in the oven, followed by a good dose of water from the garden hose dragged through the back door into the kitchen.
Just ask my husband and teenage son, both of whom I stupidly left alone to their own devices one evening for a ladies' church event.
"But what will we have for dinner?" was their lament, to which I replied, "Put a pizza from the freezer in the oven."
Obviously, I failed them miserably, for I failed to remind them TO REMOVE THE CARDBOARD before they placed said pizza in the oven.
The local fire department thought the entire arrangement was quite humorous. When I arrived home, I found it not so funny.
After all the smoke was cleared and the firemen gone away, teenage son sheepishly says, "Hey---what are we gonna have for dinner anyway?"
The paramedics were called in shortly after that question.

I have endometriosis. I recently went in for surgery to have a ovarian cyst removed. When I came out of surgery I was told they also had to remove one of my ovaries, my appendix, do a bowel resection and work on my right kidney. All because the endometriosis has gotten so bad.
I was given a list of things my doctor wants me to start doing to help with the endo. One of the things on the list says "Stay away from soy products". My post op follow up appt is not till the begin of Nov. so I wont be able to ask him till then if this includes soy candles or not.
Does anyone have exp. with soy and the effects it has on endometriosis?
Looks like I may have to leave the soy behind and focus on paraffin or palm. I do love palm but I have spent so much time and money on soy I will be very disappointed if I have to change now
You poor woman! I feel your pain---literally. I've had endo for 20+ years and know what a lousy companion it is.
I'm certain the soy your doctor is advising you to avoid is product you would consume via digestive methods, not candlemaking.
I wish you well in your recuperation and you will be in my prayers.

Fantastic! Congrats!

Peaks has a great Lemon Pound cake, and CandleScience has Lemon Chiffon; both scents throw well in soy. Neither one smell like Pledge Furniture Polish, which is sometimes a danger with some lemon fragrance.

Thanks for the tip! I like the 464 because my local supplier carries it at a great price, but most colors give me major frosting issues. CT and HT are great, though.
They also started carrying EcoSoya, but it's more expensive. I'm going to try a blend after I make my next supply run.

Gingerbread, sugar cookies, or eggnog always make me think of Christmas because that was the only time of year we had those things at home.
Pine never makes me think of Christmas, but I'm weird that way

I need to ask a question about melting soy in a presto.
If we melt more than we need at the time, (No FO added) will it harm the soy to let it set back and remelt it again for the next time?
I've not worked with soy before so I wanted to make sure I could do this.
It won't hurt a thing to do it that way.

Chiming in late, but I also like the glass better.

It all looks very nice!

Your display looks beautiful! I love the rustic look of it.

$3.00 is the going market price in my area.

LOL She takes the cake! Or should I say styro formed shape with icing on it, as I'm sure that's the route she'd go for "baking."

I have one. Love it! Check CandleScience. I think I got mine for $19.95

I use Ecosoya Pillar Blend from Peaks. Their wax prices are generally cheaper than many places. I live in MO, and they are in CO, so it doesn't take but 2-3 days to receive the package and the shipping prices are respectable.
-Suzy
Don't know where in MO you are, but Gateway Foods in Dupo, IL recently started carrying the NGI Ecosoya line in addition to Golden Wax. It might be as cheap--or cheaper--to make the trip east.
I was ordering from Peaks, but their shipping was almost the same price as the case of wax to get it to southeast MO.

I'm 70 miles southeast of St. Louis, MO, and make the drive to Dupo, IL about every two months. We usually tie it in with a shopping trip and dinner in South County, so it's all good fun.
Gateway Foods is a joy to work with.

I'm also very interested to find out the prevailing opinion. I know there was a lot of testing done when it was first released, and seemed to be superior to the Advanced variant, so I've been going through old posts---but don't seem to find a definitive response on it.
My local supplier has now started carrying Ecosoya in addition to Golden Brands, and I'm going to grab a case the next time I'm close to them (it's a 90-minute drive, but worth it to save the shipping costs). We've been using Golden 464, but get frustrated with the sometime bout of frosting, rough-tops or tunnelling, despite being consistent with melting/pouring/cooling temps and times.

WOW 42 views on this thread and not one suggestion
I don't understand your post.
Are you seeking suppliers who carry those fragrances, or searching for scent substitutes that have a smell similar to those you listed?

Beautiful work!

REG, I don't know where you're from but I can tell setting up an LLC in Illinois is not $50 bucks - minimum $600 in fees and you do all the work yourself. It varies from state to state. If it were only $50.00 I would have set up an LLC.
Slide across the stateline, my friend. In Missouri, it is $50. You can do it all online yourself. I did it.
Peaks Cotton Wicks
in General Candle Making Discussions
Posted
The cotton wicks from Peak are my favorite to use with soy. The chart they offer is dead-on and takes most of the guess work out of wick size selection. We haven't had any problems with smoking or mushrooming.
