  2. the frosting is so pretty!!

when I first started making them I was using the royal icing frosting and if I worked really fast, I could frost 6 full size cupcakes...they would harden and look awesome...but like was mentioned, the tops get taken off and thrown away, they don't add anything to the bath...one of our wholesale accounts said that she sat in the tub determined to use the whole thing...said she sat in there for over an hour waiting for the top to dissolve lol...we had to change our frosting recipe when we got rain...it completely changed the outcome of the royal icing...it went from awesome to a runny mess...the level of humidity in the air affects it...

we now use a mix of shea MP, fbb, liquid glycerin & a tiny bit of meringue powder...now when the top comes off, its usable as soap...

you have to play with the amounts of MP & fbb to get the right consistency...one of the recipes floating around calls for equal amounts and we found that that didn't work for us...we melt the MP and then add the fbb while its still warm, it helps to soften it before we start whipping...we also keep rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle near the mixer...sometimes the bubbles get crazy lol...one of the tricks we learned during the whipping is to keep whipping...it will get to a point where it looks like whipped cream peaks...if you try to use it at this point (only a couple minutes of whipping) it will be to soft and won't hold its shape...keep whipping, about 5-6 minutes...then put it into the piping bag...I use a size 14 bag because the larger opening is so much easier to get the soap into...the the bigger tip covers more area on the cupcake quicker, allowing me to work faster....something to keep in mind when whipping...the soap likes to climb up the beaters...I use a hand mixer and have a silicone spatula in the other hand to push the soap back down...hope this helps some =o) heres a couple pictures of our cupcake bath bombs...we add a little glitter to them...it catches the light and catches peoples attention at shows

  3. hi =o)

when I was starting out in 2001, etsy wasn't around :sad2: I did buy products from Whole Foods (Wild Oats back then), the Body Shop and also TJ Maxx and Ross...mostly TJM for cheap...

now when I buy on etsy, I buy from the shops that have full ingredient disclosure and that don't make any claims

when I started making cp soap, I bought from lots of other soapmakers because I wanted to learn what they meant by slip & glide...I wanted to know what combinations of oils created what feels and lathers...I wanted to know what a scrubby bar felt like compared to a salt bar, etc

Imho, research is ok as long as its truly to learn and not to copy :smiley2:

  4. Oh, thank you so much for finding that.

Its a really nice cream and was so hoping it was a base. It just seemed to be the exact same ingredients on so many different B&B shops that it had to be.

    Thanks again.

you're welcome =o) I love Aquatech, they have great quality bases and its awesome that the shipping is part of the price so no nasty surprises at the end with outrageous shipping costs =o)

  5. a great place to get slsa is on ebay from Arkie Annie

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Sodium-Lauryl-Sulfoacetate-BUBBLE-MAGIC-Flake-5-Lb_W0QQitemZ350242806515QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item518c191af3

buying it in the flakes is so much better than the powder! the powder is awful if you accidentally inhale it...arkie-annie also sells citric acid and vegetable glycerin at great prices...he always combines shipping too and will give you shipping prices on ups as well as usps

the recipe that we use calls for cream of tartar, but its so pricey...we substitute cornstarch straight across...this is the recipe we use:

    1/3 cup cornstarch

    1 cup baking soda

    1 cup slsa

1/3 cup liquid glycerin (we use vegetable glycerin)

    colorant &/or mica

fragrance oil OR essential oil (60 drops f.o. OR 18 drops e.o. - this can vary slightly based on the type of essential oils being used (cinnamon uses less)

    makes 18 oz ( 12 1oz minis OR 4 6oz large)

    hope this helps!!
