the frosting is so pretty!! when I first started making them I was using the royal icing frosting and if I worked really fast, I could frost 6 full size cupcakes...they would harden and look awesome...but like was mentioned, the tops get taken off and thrown away, they don't add anything to the bath...one of our wholesale accounts said that she sat in the tub determined to use the whole thing...said she sat in there for over an hour waiting for the top to dissolve lol...we had to change our frosting recipe when we got rain...it completely changed the outcome of the royal icing...it went from awesome to a runny mess...the level of humidity in the air affects it... we now use a mix of shea MP, fbb, liquid glycerin & a tiny bit of meringue powder...now when the top comes off, its usable as soap... you have to play with the amounts of MP & fbb to get the right consistency...one of the recipes floating around calls for equal amounts and we found that that didn't work for us...we melt the MP and then add the fbb while its still warm, it helps to soften it before we start whipping...we also keep rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle near the mixer...sometimes the bubbles get crazy lol...one of the tricks we learned during the whipping is to keep whipping...it will get to a point where it looks like whipped cream peaks...if you try to use it at this point (only a couple minutes of whipping) it will be to soft and won't hold its shape...keep whipping, about 5-6 minutes...then put it into the piping bag...I use a size 14 bag because the larger opening is so much easier to get the soap into...the the bigger tip covers more area on the cupcake quicker, allowing me to work faster....something to keep in mind when whipping...the soap likes to climb up the beaters...I use a hand mixer and have a silicone spatula in the other hand to push the soap back down...hope this helps some =o) heres a couple pictures of our cupcake bath bombs...we add a little glitter to them...it catches the light and catches peoples attention at shows
