  1. It's not really a right or wrong thing. You are doing ounces per pound, but changing the units. There's nothing wrong with that, except that it can confuse things a little when you talk about it as percentages.

To get what you would call "9% FO" in the candle industry, you'd have to add 1.58 oz FO to 1 lb of wax.

    5% = 0.84 oz / lb

    6% = 1.02 oz / lb

    7% = 1.20 oz / lb

    8% = 1.39 oz / lb

    9% = 1.58 oz / lb

    10% = 1.78 oz /lb

Thanks for the information. I have been looking for something like this.

  2. If you're thinking of their classic apothecary jars, those are made with mottling paraffin. There are two suppliers on the East Coast who sell similar wax:

I've never gotten around to checking out the "Beanswax" candle line they came out with. It sounds like they're supposed to be straight soy wax, but I'd think a big company would use a less troublesome soy/paraffin blend. Either way, there are many options that you'll read about on the board. No idea which would be most similar to the Yankee wax.

Thank You very much for replying. I have been reading on this site for 4 days and have stumbled on allot of oyur posts. Thanks again. I was thinking of going the soy route but am new to this hobby so I need to figure out what would be easiest for us.

  3. I went to JCPenny's with my girl friend and we were walking and noticed a Yankee Candle stand with like 100 candles in different sizes and fragrances. I must have smelled half of them and wow some smell awesome. I am a newbie to this hobby and have already placed 2 orders with Candlechem.com. I originally bought the 4 pillar seamless molds and melted some used candles and re-wicked them with the wick from candlechem. Wow for our first candles they came out good and smell good. We are addicted to this hobby. I am researching like crazy on candle making and I just can't get enough. We are now trying to research what kind of wax or soy wax to buy. Their are soo many different ones to choose form that it can be confusing.

Thanks for suh a wonderful site.

  4. I did give her a discount. I gave her an offer, she counter offered, and I took it. I was expecting her to counter offer and it was in the range I wanted so it was a good deal for me.

She did ask for my contact info so she could keep in touch to possibly order more. I guess it will depend on if they sell well for her.

That was on Saturday. On Sunday a customer bought some soap and candles from me and asked if I wholesaled. So I told her I did and then she asked me if I would also be interested in teaching candle and soap making classes. I was of course very interested so I told her yes. She has a shop and wanted to start crafting classes in her community.

They both sound like great opportunities for me but I have found that people often forget about you after a show. So if they contact me great-- if not-- well I 'm not gonna hold my breath or lose sleep about it.

All in all it was a good show for me. Made some good money and saw a lot of repeat customers. The repeat customers are the ones that buy big! So I always love to see them again.

Congrats on your sale. She will be back :)...

  5. New guy here...Hello to Everyone!

I live in the Florida area and cant find any candle suppliers locally other than CandleChem.com. I want to buy Soy wax but their shipping is 40.00 UPS ground for a 50 lb. case of it. Anybody know of any suppliers within a few hours drive of tampa Bay Florida?

Also, I've mostly bought my first candle making supplies from CandleChem and they ship pretty fast. Can any florida local recommend some places they use to buy supplies as well like FO's.

    Thank you
