  1. Those look AWESOME!!!! I also make my own labels. I was using white waterproof on my candles, but I am in the process of changing over to kraft with primitive graphics on them. I am also changing the sizes. I am adding primitive home decor to my products. I like to have more than just candles when I go to a show and setup. I know what you mean about all the time you spend designing the label. I have print shop labels and it is not compatible with all of the labels I am wanting to use from www.labelsbythesheet.com so it has been a headache for me. I definately will check out the program you use, might be better. I have had this one for 3 years, so maybe I need a change.

Your candle shown looks like one you would see in an upscale shop. I like the modern look and I also like the simpleness of it. It's not too busy, just right. I use the 8oz plain sided jelly jars and they are my best seller. Also, have a 16oz footed jar (new one testing, don't know the sales status on it yet) and I have a 26oz apothecary with a black handled lid. I agree with the ones buying for the scent not the jar. That seems to be what matters to my customers most.

    Thanks for sharing with us.

  2. This was a great post. I have that happen all the time at shows. My regular customers I deliver to do not ask. They just want to buy them and are glad they don't have to fool with making them.

I always tell them that I order my supplies online. That could be from a number of sources and then I explain to them that it is not something that you can just do overnight. They are usually like really...duh :shocked2: . I don't go much farther than that.

When that ask if it is hard. I just explain that you have to do lots of testing and invest a lot of money to find the right jar, wick, wax, scents for yourself.

That usually works for me. When you involve the fact that I have to test them and quite a bit of money they back off. It seems like to much for them.

I think maybe they are curious at first and then they think...hhhmmm...I could do this. Once you tell them a little they are like ooohhh wow, nevermind, lol.

  3. I use caution labels or the candle does not go out. I am currently waiting on mine to get here before I sell some I have made. I didn't realize I was out until after order was placed.

About the phone #. I did have a booth at a local merchants mall. They closed the 23rd...:cry2: . I did not have my contact # on them because I wanted them to return to the store to get them. Although, all they have to do is ask at the register and they will contact me.

Now I am going to be doing shows again, I will have to make a label for the back (small) that has my contact info.

If they are a big seller and have been doing it many years it looks like they would know this stuff has to be on there. I also make business cards and have them with me. Some people just don't get it, I guess.

  4. I use waterproof vinyl labels from labels by the sheet. They are great. I use an inkjet printer also. I have not had any problems so far. You can order as much or as little as you want. You can order one sheet and try them before buying a case or whatever. They are reasonably priced and fair on shipping.

Hope this helps. They also ship quick. :cool2:

  5. I finally got me a tealight mold. I used KY Parasoy votive/Tart blend. They dried fine, but when I went to take out the pins some of them cracked down the middle or cracked when I tried to get them out. It seems the wax was too soft. I was afraid to use a container wax, because I thought it might not come out very easily.

What wax do you use in your tealight mold?

  6. This afternoon I tried my 1st attempt at making bath bombs, lmbo. I am glad u experts weren't a fly on the wall to watch. I was very anxious and could not find a meatballer anywhere in my town. I have to drive 30 minutes or so. So I bought a 2.00 large ice cream scoop and tried making half bombs. Some of them turned out okay. Some of them cracked. I think I should have had hubby remove the thing that you normally push to remove ice cream, although I didn't push it. I am going to let them dry and see what happens. Any comments on where to get a meatballer? I am not sure I would know how to use it, lol. I also thought about a mold. I saw some square bombs here on the board. Do you let them dry before removing them from this mold? I will get back to making them when I get some more citric acid. I will post pics. My batteries are dead in camera....:angry2:

  7. Okay. I have thought about this and I think I know why I have no bubbles. When I ordered the ingredients I got them from WSP. I did not see SLSA, they had Sodium Sesquicarbonate..it stated that it was used in bath powders, etc. So I assumed it was the same thing, I bet it isn't. I will have to order some SLSA from another supplier. Anyone that wants to chime in on this problem would be helpful...Thanks

  8. Okay, now I have tested these myself. The melts are oily as they stated in post. I am not sure if customers will like these. I have sent them to my moms work. The women there are great testers. I forgot that a soaper once told me that it is hard to use vanilla in B & B products they turn brown and some of my melts had a brown circle at the top later in the day.

The silky suds didn't turn out like I thought they would. I did not smell them enough(needed to add more FO). They also did not seem to do anything to the water. When I tried them in the sink it was sikly feeling. Did I do something wrong? Back to the mixing bowl, lol.

  9. Well, I ordered the ingredients for these 2 recipes and made them. Wow they were both so easy. I have handed the bath powder out for trials and waiting for results. I did try them in the sink...couldn't wait. They sure were soft. I also tried the melts in the sink. I will agree with what recipe said they are oily. I like them, but we will have to see what testers say. I ordered the wrong cocoa butter (didn't read further down until after I ordered). So I added Warm Vanilla Sugar to the mix. You can't really smell it, it's mostly cocoa butter smell. I will know next time. I added pics for you to see. I think I will call the Silky Suds...Silky Milk Bath if that is ok with the creator.

  10. I have seen a new to me candle. It has a wood wick. How in the world does this work or does it? Someone may have already posted this subject, but I didn't go through the posts to check. If someone understands how a wood wick would work I would love to know myself. Thanks......;)

  11. I have a wholesale account at a florist that has requested numerous times for a men's line. She is doing well with the women's line. I have no idea what to create for men. I do not currently make soap, although that is a thought for down the road. I can figure out what scents. My problem is like is there a way to make after shave lotion, or do I use the same body spray I do for women, to make a mans spray? I also thought about some type of cologne but wouldn't that be expensive (ordering glass bottle and such)?

    TIA...Amy

  12. I have been working on creating a website with yahoo sitebuilder. I was wondering if I have to use yahoo as a host, now that I have it in this program. If I can use another host, how do you get it to that one. The only options seem to let me use yahoo.

  13. Well...I lit it up today in my bathroom and it smells great. I use a soyblend. I told a customer today and sold her tealights and a candle already. I also want to try out some of those new ones. I will have to wait until after xmas. Bank account is screaming STOP!!!
