  1. How about using three LX's? Has anyone tried that already? I was going to test one today, but you think three LX18's is to much? I'm testing a heart bowl now with 3 zinc gelwicks (62's), which I think is too much. I really don't care for zinc's, but they do give a good meltpool... I don't mind them for my own use, because I do a lot of trimming and picking out all the black debris whenever I blow one out, but I know most customers don't. Then they end up with an ugly candle with all this blank gunk in it, and it reflects on ME. lol Someone on an old board used 3 hemps in a 5", but I don't have those on hand to test. Missy
  2. Thanks Fern-Marie. Both of those links had good pics. To answer your question, I guess either pics or tutorials. I am not creative at all, so looking at pics of other stuff, I can usually see something nice (that I never would have thought of), but can figure out how it's done. I'm getting there, though. lol-guess it's like riding a bike. Missy
  3. It's funny. I haven't done much at all in the last two or so years, and now I'm thinking of doing this as business, and everything's gone. Poof! Gone! I did find a few of the old boards archived, so the posts are there, but not the pics. I vaguely remember a discussion about what have you done with the heart bowl from Walmart? Other than usual Valentine things. Someone did an under the sea one, and someone else had a really neat "Footprints in the Sand" with little feet and part of the poem. Still kicking myself for not saving any of it... lol Missy
  4. Fern-Marie-I did look through the gallery, but there aren't a lot of gel pictures. Yes, Vicky's work is wonderful (just not enough to see). Vicky-I couldn't believe the link actually worked! That's something I remember seeing a looonnnggg time ago
  5. How silly of me! Other candles don't need crimps! Now I see why no one carries them-not a big seller, huh? Thanks again
  6. I saw something for 3 E-books for around $40 at http://www.netpartnerspublishing.com/gel/gelbookstore.htm. 3 volumes, but I don't know if it's a big rip-off or not. Anyone know? I'm still "scouring" the 'net for gel pictures:shocked2: , and I thought maybe I'd see some in there.
  7. Thanks, Soapymomma. I like your site. Your cola candles are especially nice. Well, all the drinks. I'm in the process now of "choosing" which drinks to offer in my line, so I was kinda looking at them too closely! Very nice, though.
  8. This is the most difficult thing! I just bought 2 packs of metal crimping beads, two sizes, both too small! Add that to all the glass beads I've bought (too big, too small...) How come no candle supplier carries them if everyone uses them anyway?? Missy
  9. Hi all. Do you all do 3 wicks for a 5" pie? If so, what sizes (type) gives you the best results? I have do dig out my notes, but I clearly remember not being happy with any. I just need my notes to know what I already tried... Also, same question for the heart-shaped glass bowls from Walmart usually. I had only done them as a forever with an oyster cup, but thinking of three-wicks. Anyone already know that this is not safe before I try? Thanks again all! Missy
  10. Thanks again, Vicky. That's kind of what I thought, so I'll just build up some inventory while I hunt for insurance. It's more difficult than I thought...
  11. Thanks so much, Vicky. Another question, is insurance right away absolutely necessary?
  12. First off, let me just say I'm SO happy to find this board! I started making gel candles about 7 years ago, but only one here and there in the last 2 years. So, I just really got back into the swing of things, and considering doing home parties now. And I realized then that all the boards I used to frequent (one even had a fairly regular chat), many supplier links, links to pictures/albums of others' ideas/designs.....all GONE! Please excuse this post for being long, but I figure I'll just throw out the questions that come to mind-feel free to jump in if you can help me out... 1)I'm almost out of the wicks I have (all zinc core), but I seem to recall a lot of people raving about LX ones. So before I order more, any thoughts on how these are for gel? Also, BCN carries a Gelwick, with a really high neck. Does this mean you don't use a crimp or anything? Which leads me to my next question... 2)Who sells metal crimps? I think the glass beads (Biomax) are still available, but is this the only option? 3)Finally, anyone have any links to pictures of finished projects? Someone did a really neat wedding one, where she had the invitation printed on clear paper, laminated and inside. But I don't remember it. TIA-sorry for being so long! Missy
