  1. I have been playing around with making cup cake candles. These are the first attempts. Chocolate scented with fluffy tops. Need to find a decent mould for small stars or hearts to thread on the wick i think... And whilst i had the chocolate scent going i had a go at a new mould i got recently..
  2. I was just wondering if any of the Australian people here have suggestions for an Australian equivalent to the Presto pot? It looks so much easier than the old double boiler but i cannot find anything similar here that i could use. I would prefer not to buy from the US as the shipping is very expensive for something like this. Thanks!
  3. I love the way this candle turned out, is my first one and has a bit of a lemon meringue pie look to it =) You can probably see that there is a dip in the top (i didn't have a heat gun at the time) but I'm a little scared to try and fix it in case i ruin the overall look! Thinking about maybe putting some 'fluffy' wax at the top.. I hope that worked. My first post with photos.. What do you think?
  4. Hey, I was wondering if anyone could tell me of a good online paraffin supplier in Australia, I'm just working with bits and pieces at the moment but i have no local candle suppliers where i live. Thanks!
  5. Thanks for the help. I got a little carried away and ended up ordering centering tools, new moulds, wick pins & tabs etc. lol argh. Oh well. At least i will be well equipt. Where i live there are only two stores that stock candle making supplies and wick and wax are about the extent of it.. So it was very exciting browsing through all sorts of bits and pieces online.
  6. I found some wick centering tools and contacted the people selling them to find out which size would fit their votive moulds (as there were no sizes on the moulds) and they told me not to use the tools, to use wick pins. I would rather not wick my candles after they have been set, is that the best way to do it or can i still use the centering tools? I hope that makes sense..
  7. Hi, i am having some issues with keeping my wick central. I am using glass containers so centering it at the bottom is no problem, it is more making sure it is central at the TOP while the wax is setting. Does anyone have any simple tips for this? I know many of you use the EZ-Setter but i don't have one and kind of hoped there is another way without outlaying more money at this point as it is only a personal hobby for the moment. Thanks!
  8. Hi all, Thanks for the replies on my last thread. I just have another quick question. I have found the cutest little chocolate shaped latex moulds and was wondering whether i can put hot wax into them? The details with them say for use with 'cooled wax' but as i am new this term has me completely stumped. I assume this term does not refer to normal wax cooled a little? Also, The same question for silicone moulds like the ones you get to make cakes and stuff in.. Thoroughly enjoying my new hobby =) Thanks for all your help.
  9. Hi, I am new to all of this and i am having a couple of issues i thought somebody may be able to help me with. Firstly, I was wondering whether there is any way to combat the huge crater in the top of my candles which i need to re-fill at least once, sometimes twice? Secondly, When i fill those 'craters' the two separately poured levels of wax have different textures, even though they are the exact same wax. Why is this? And how do i combat it? I'm not sure if it is necessary information but i am using small glass moulds. Thanks! =)
