  1. Hi Firestarter- If you liked the LX with the first burn and got a FM with no issues, I would stick with the LX. The C&S describes the LX wick as virtually self-trimming, so I usually don't trim my wicks. I had asked my friends and family what they liked in candles as far as; scent, color, jar... and the biggest thing is the scent (of course). The next thing is not having to trim the stupid wick everytime. When I burn the LX on the 2nd or 3rd burn, I start seeing white ash at the tip, which indicated to me that it is trimming itself. And yes, I get the mushrooming too, I just ignore it... So try the LX again & just don't trim it... Just a suggestion.
  2. Hi Stella - Thank you for your reply! The palm 1 that I got from CW is a crystalizing container fill and the crystalization resembles more of a frost palm. And everytime I burn GG my wicks flicker and I wanted to continue using 10% FO. I thought if I mixed the two and add a little CO, my flames would calm down and stop the flicker. I remelted the mix yesterday - heated to 195, poured at 195 into a apothecary (16 oz) jar- room temp, and let cure on a rack. Today it's just bumpy on top, but no cracks. When it was first poured, my husband did it, so I really don't know what he did.... I was just wondering it anyone else where mixing palm waxes and if so, the results they got. Thanks, Candice
  3. Hi all - I don't post here much, but I sure do read alot. First, I would like to thank everyone who posts! I have learned a great deal over the past year and a half just reading , reading, reading.... Recently I have been testing a new candle formula by blending Palm 1 (CW) and Glass Glow (CS). Has anyone ever experimented with this? The final result is cracking through out the candle (top and sides). It never stops, it's always " I wonder what would happen if...." Thanks for you input, Candice
  4. Hello & Welcome - I am glad to hear that you caught the candle bug!
  5. Thank you for sharing your journey of candle making and your advice. I feel focused & I am ready to take the next step. I plan by next week to have yet another supply list & road trip to C&S and CW..... Cheers to starting off the New Year right !
  6. Congrats XIXO! I can only imagine how your mind is spinning right now, but after you work out all the details you will feel great! My husband and I are in the process of starting our own business and as LPENDA said "Dot the I's, cross the T's and jump... the water's fine." Just make sure all the legal stuff is done. Like Sales Tax ID # & Insurance. From what I understand that is all you need as a Sole Proprietor. Just take a deep breath and make a game plan! Enjoy your success !
  7. I want to Thank everyone for making me feel that I am on the right track and I am not the only one in the boat. Lpenda, I do not have a business plan. Unfortunately, I have tried a few times to create one, but I continue to make unrealistic dead lines. Then frustration sets in. So that is kind of on the back burner until I get my confidence back on track. The paper work end of it doesn't go so well for me. I have notes & formulas & price comparisons on every tablet I own and when I try to put everything together then the mind goes spinning. You are absolutely right - I just need to Jump in.... Usually for me it's one toe at a time to get use to it, but that will take forever. Thanks to everyone again for helping me get my focus back!
  8. Thank you for responding to my thread, Jacquio. My husband and I are under a partnership (LLC) as of last month & I am getting quotes for Insurance. The problem is the product. You would think after making & testing many, many many (uncountable formulas and additives) that I would feel confident with at least one..... I felt that if I went through all the legal stuff and moving in the right direction, that my confidence would follow. How long did it take you to become confident in your finished marketable candle? Am I normal or tooo critical of myself?
  9. Hi everyone, I am new to the board and have been making candles for about 2 years. My husband and I recently registered for our EIN and Sales Tax ID # to start our Candle Business. I am still struggling with a marketable candle - We are working with Soy and Palm waxes and I was just wondering if any of you guys have any stories you would like to share about start-up frustrations & victories... Hopefully this will inspire me to keep pluggin' away! Thank you, GlowinWick
