Start with smaller amounts. Remember, you can add more but subtracting is much more difficult.
If you're using TKB's mica's, they're VERY good and don't often take a whole lot.
-
I most certainly couldn't handle that much wax but it sounds like the beginnings of an AWESOME Co-op if someone had the room to accommodate that much and break it down.
-
Well, it COULD maybe be too much mica. I think I use roughly 1-2TB in a 2-3lb batch of soap.
-
I use tons of pop micas in my soaps and haven't noticed a problem with them being brittle.
It could depend on how you're adding them in though.

Unfortunately, all the links to Ikea's site w/the drawers come up w/Error messages on Ikea's site.
-
I thought Ikea stopped making those?
I'm in need of one too but we just don't have the space for DH to make one for me. :undecided
-
That's the one. If you figure it out, lemme know.

Barbara, that's pretty much what happened. As I started mixing in colors I realized it was loosening up, so I just kept mixing until it went back to normal and it was fine.
-
Well, that was aesthetically one of the LEAST wonderful batches I've ever made. Went a lot quicker then I expected too but I'm going to blame that on the smallness of the batch. And now I have my proverbial kick in the pants to do something that I needed.
*Off to clean the kitchen and go for round 2*

Note: Within minutes of my freakout ending the seizing stopped and it went back to it's normal state of liquidish'ness.

Well... pink's a very real possibility. Just tossed the FO in and it started seizing!!!! ACK!!!! I freaked out, started getting ready to mold it, thought I grabbed the blue, I actually grabbed the pink! Oops! So maybe I'll separate it and try to override some of the pink w/blue or maybe I'll put blue through through all of it and end up with some funky shade of purple. Luckly this is a "just for home" batch and a small one at that to try out this recipe.
-
Trying a new recipe today w/a new FO. I'm overwhelmed by the newness but felt the need to do something to get me out of a little creative funk I've been in.
Anyone have any quick color suggestions for a scent called Sweet Moon?
-
What's it made out of?

I don't know whether to congratulate you or ask you where you want your hair buried after you rip it all out in frustration!
It is pretty incredible though!

Amber and French Vanilla are a KILLER combination but something that I think you'd likely find more feminine and soft then anything else. Some years ago a very big, popular incense company did it and I very nearly bought stock it in it was so wonderful. Oh... I completely forgot about that. Now I have a project!!!
As for success... it really does depend on where your thoughts are.
Does success equal money? Happiness? Contentment? Meeting of goals? Something job/career related? Something sports related?
I think having a good direction for this will give you a better idea of what types of scent profiles to look at.

Yeah, that really sounds like rebatching for CP.
The only time I ever added water to my MP was if I had melted it down more then 2-3 times then I'd put a little bit in to off set the steam.
-
Oh, I don't trust my nose. Period. I always ask DH to smell stuff and if I'm still not convinced, then Mom. It's not just me.
-
Actually, I've gotten some nice things there. The credit system is pretty decent and most people are nice enough. I wouldn't go shopping for a new computer there for example, but DVD's, CD's, DH's got a few things... some scrapbooking stuffs, etc...
-
No, the oils are fine, no funkyness to them and until recently I was only buying 2-3lbs at a time so there were just about always fresh oils coming into the house.
-
No, I didn't save any of the auction links... I was too disgusted.
The site is Listia, it's kind of like eBay meets Freecycle, very cool concept but it does seem to bring the stupid out in some people.

I'm playing around on SoapCalc now trying to see what I can come up with. Would love to know what's wrong with my precious recipe that I love so much though. :undecided

Okay, so... here's my problem
I have a soap recipe that I LOVE. I know it, it feels good on the skin, works well, lathers, etc... all good.
Problem.
I'd really like to be able to use just a paper wrapper as opposed cello/plastic/shrink wrap.
Bought paper wrappers, all set to go.
Problem!
If I don't keep my soap in plastic, it gets this... SMELL that I can only describe as the smell of the soap before I put FO in it.
So... here's my recipe:
SAO: 20%
Castor: 10%
Coconut: 15%
PKO: 15%
Olive: 20%
Shea Butter: 5%
Lard: 15%
I'm thinking it might be the lard that's causing the problem? I usually go 1oz of FO per lb of oil, sometimes up to 1.5oz on a mellower scent. And I've had this problem doing this recipe both as HP and HPCP.
Thoughts?

Oh, I found this woman's page on the site, she apparently sells a lot of these.
They're eco friendly, you know.
:rolleyes2

Well, I do have to agree that some of that "You'll make a zillion dollars" stuff is a bit over the top but for someone who already makes stuff, it IS a good deal.
