  1. I have not posted in awhile as I have been REALLY busy with school but I have started trying to pour again. I am having issues with C-3 and sinkholes as well as the circular crack. I was wondering if anyone had any tips or suggestions for me to try.

Like I said I am using C-3 in 8oz Mason Jars. I am adding UV and USA, heating to 185 and pouring at 165 with liquid dye and 1oz pp FO. I warmed the jars with a heat gun, filled to the neck, set on a wire rack on top of the stove and poured and then covered with a styrofoam cooler. The cooler did not go all the way down to the stove, it sort of sat on top of the wire rack. By the way, they are wickless. Room temp was 72F. Should the cooler go all the way to the stove? Should I fill just below the neck?

It looked as if they were cooling from the bottom, I could look up under the cooler to the bottom of the rack. I got the circular crack, which I think I've read that could be rubbed out, but I also got a sinkhole. I would like to figure out how to avoid the sinkholes but if I get them what is the best way to fix it? I tried zapping them with the heat gun but then I would get air bubbles (I poked holes with a skewer).

  2. I have done that. Now I set up large aluminum foil pans and set my test burn candle in them just in case.

Are you talking about the type you use a lot around the holidays? The disposable ones? Don't want to sound foolish but how would this help prevent a fire? Does it keep it from spreading or something?

Yep, I have done it,too. More than once.By the way, how was the scent throw?

The scent throw was pretty good, in that room. I could barely smell it before opening the door. Is that good or bad? Should I have been able to smell it more throughout the house since it was burning that long?

I've done it more than once as well! My dh, who is super paranoid, leaves them burning all the time when he leaves so I have to remember to put them out before I leave. I also switched to just my kitchen area to test. It's big and open, but I figure if I can smell it in one of the bedrooms from there, it's a great throw!

You didn't really think you were alone on this...did you? :highfive:

My DH just looked at me like I was crazy, did not get mad though. He was calmer than I on the drive home, I kept looking for smoke. I was hoping I was not alone, but ya never know!

Thanks guys for making me feel less embarrassed! I hope to never do that again!!

  3. Another thing you can do, is to use the # all scented the same but use 2 different size or type wicks to see which you like the results with best for that scent. If there is any extra, pour it into a tin, small glass container or clamshell and use it on a warmer to test wickless/melts out of the same batch.

Would the clamshells work with container wax? I am using C-3. I thought you had to use a different type of wax for that.

  4. I scared myself silly this afternoon. I lit a candle in my daughters room so I could turn off the fan, shut the door and have a nice test area. This way the cat and the kids would not be around the candle. I lit it at 10:30 and planned to burn it for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. DH comes home and we decide to go get lunch. So off we go. Come 3:15 we are on the way back home and planned to stop to get me a couple more school supplies when I realized I had NOT blown it out. I am not sure what made me think of the candle but I did and my heart sank into my stomach. I just prayed that it either drowned out, like my others had been doing or that it was still burning perfectly fine and that my house was not up in smoke. We we about 15 mins from the house. Luckily when I got back everything was okay, no firemen in the drive. It was still burning but it was okay. Phew!! I have learned my lesson to double check, that will be on my list just like the diaper bag.

Please someone say they have done the same thing and make me feel better! :o

  5. Kim,

Thanks! I did not know that was there! So my conatiner empty was 7 ounces, filled with water it was 14.65 and suggested I melt 6.58 ounces of wax. How would I go about figuring out how much FO to use? I had been using 1 ounce per pound. Would it be okay to just use 1/2 ounce or would it not work since that is actually more per pound?? Hmmm!

  6. I know I know another silly question :grin2:

I seem to be getting overwhelmed, I am sure it is easy to do. I have a couple of questions and am looking for suggestions on testing. When I melt 1 pound of wax I end up with two of the 8 oz masons. Should I pour 2 scented the same or do two with different scents?

I just don't want to end up with two candles same scent with same size wicks. How do/did you do it when you started out or when you test a new scent?

Also how many do you test at one time? Do you stick with one scent until you get it figured out and then move on as to not have 10 different scents poured and none of them perfected?

Hope I made sense, if not let me know and I will re-word.

  7. This may be a stupid question but Im still learning so I thought I would ask. From what I gather depending on the FO you have to wick up or down. Is there a way to know if a FO is a heavy FO before pouring and testing? For example I poured Pink Sugar in C3 used an 8 oz square mason and wicked it with a CDN 10. It is doing well I think, nice hot throw and is burning even and clean. Now I want to pour cream brulee. Should I stick with the CDN 10 on this one? Hope I am making sense...lol

  8. this is the soy i use .. and have for a long time .. i love it .. the scenting , throwing hot an cold .. the release .. all of it .. but !!!!!

I can not color it .. is it cause i'm using color blocks? some recomend liquids .. but on my budget .. color blocks are all i can afford now .. but this palce also has liquids on sale .. so i'm thinkin maybe thats my problem? get liquid?

i made apple green for a friend in tarts ... last yr .. an OMG they turned PURPLE after 2 days cure ! i was laughing so loud .. to my self .. omg i have purple apple tarts now .. so we decided to call the scent .. wicked apple .. it worked .. they sold well for her .. but still

is liquid the way to go , cause color blocks are not working at all for me...

At least you were able to sell all of the tarts, good name save! I got liquid dyes from Lone Star, but they STINK, not in the colors but they really stink :grin2:

I use the Eco-friendly liquid dyes from JBN. I think CandleWic carries them, too. I find them to be affordable. Soy is already so white, it takes more dye to get a vibrant color. And sometimes, by the time you use enough to get a vibrant color, frosting rears its ugly head. :rolleyes2

    Viva pastels!!! :yay:

If only I had met Stella before I bought the LS ones I would have gotten the ones from JBN. I guess I will stick with these for now until they are gone. I am currently sporting Hot Pink/Pink LS dye on my left hand, I missed the pot! :laugh2:
  9. I did these years ago for a baby shower.....the "baby" is now 8. LOL They were a HUGE hit! (don't forget to add on a hang tag or some other instructions to LEAVE THE LID OFF WHEN LIT......you just never know when someone just isn't thinking.)

Thank you for sharing the picture! They are so cute. I have a friend that is preggers and this is something I could do for her!

  10. Thanks but that is a wick centering tool and I'm looking for the EZ wick setter.

I know, but I do believe they are the ones who make/made the EZ wick setter. Rob and Stephanie are on here so you could PM them. I have e-mailed Rob before and he made mention about the EZ Wick setter. I have both, the setter and the tools.

  11. Those are so cute!! Do you do custom work? Like if I wanted a cupcake charm in certian colors?? I have a charm bracelet that I add to when special stuff happens or I do different things. I got a cupcake tattoo on my ankle and I think it would be cool to have one of those for my bracelet. Let me know and how much!

  12. Cocopop do you mind sharing where you found it? It sounds like something I would like. I have a pregnant friend that I want to make baby themed candles for. You can PM me if you would like.

I found one place, I think it was K&W Specialties but it said it was for soap.

  13. I am looking to get some 8 oz square and some 16 oz square mason jars. I am wanting a nice shiney black lid to go with them. I found the 8 oz jars at JBN that has the lid I want but they do not have the 16 oz jars. My question is will the lids that fit the 8 oz fit the 16 oz too?

I also found both the size jars at Fillmore but can't find the shiney black lid I want at Fillmore. Does anyone know if this lid http://www.fillmorecontainer.com/product.asp?deptID=2&sku=RC%2D38B&sID=18UTVA08GX469JHV3RR2W1121X8LCPKC will fit both size containers? They have one black lid that says it will fit it button it has a button on it.

I also found this jar and lid at Candle Soylutions, which is a tad different lid then the others but I like it. http://www.candlesoylutions.com/closeup.asp?cid=13&pid=641&offset=0 They are way more expensive on the jars though then Fillmore. Anyone know where I can get these cheaper?
