  1. Since I don't sell my stuff- myself and my friends have an abundance of candles and lotions that I have made. I want to keep this hobby but looking for other things to make that I willl use.

Has anybody ever made the airfreshners from those sheets? Do they really smell good. Any ideas for suppliers?

    thanks

  2. Sorry for the confusion- I guess you can tell I am a real rookie. :) I wish I had the courage to actually make the lotion from scratch like you guys do. I meant buy a base and then add stuff to it.

The place I buy the base from validated I didn't need to add preservatives and I probably used fo not friendly for soap or used too much. I just thought it was strange I never had a problem and then all of a sudden it was really bad.

Maybe after a year of buying the base, I will get brave and try to do it myself. I wonder if it is cheaper doing it that way if you just do it for a hobby. I know just getting the base and customizing it is cheaper than a store( especially with the scrubs- they charge a fortune for them)

  3. I just started making homemade lotions and creams for personal use and give to friends. My first batches were used up quickly(I made smaller quantities ) Anyways, I got bigger jars on sale- I think 16 oz

For the first time I had a very bad reaction when I used my lotion. It was oatmeal honey and had turned a yucky brown but I had that problem before and assumed it was because I didn't use a stablizer for the vanilla in it. However, I am now wondering if something had gone wrong with my body cream because I don't use preservatives either and this body cream has taken me over a month to use( I have several different scents)

    Questions:

    1. Should I use a preservative and not even sure what to use or where to buy

    2. Could my rash have been caused by mold or something from not using it?

    Thanks for any advise

  4. Still a rookie and buying stuff to make for personal use and friends. I just bought some foaming bath whip from wsp. I wanted to try making an exfoliating scrub like it says you can. I think I read it right but would like to validate. If you use 16 oz of whip- it says use 25-50% exfoliate. Would that mean 4-8 oz of that? It also says to us raw brown sugar or crystal salt. All I have is turbentine( sugar in the raw), sea salt or kosher salt- would that work?

    Anybody use this before?

  5. I don't sell my crafts but love to do them as a hobby and give away. I make all melt and pour soap but would love to do make soap that looks like the beautiful rustic homemade soap. I don't want to mess around with lye. I haven't heard good things about rebatching- and even with that don't you need homemade soap with lye? I read about making from soap flakes but they are hard to make. Any ideas?

  6. I am a "rookie gone wild". I have just started making lotions and soaps and candles( the short cut way- with bases). I use melt and pour soap and fo, I make soy candles, and use a lotion base . I also make sugar or salt scrubs using fo and carrier oil

and fo. I don't sell my stuff- just give it away

Anyways I was in this neat town and went into their herb and scent store. I bought some shea butter just because I thought I might need it for something.

Any ideas what I can make with it? (has to be easy- this is just a spare time hobby and not much time)

  7. Thank you for your replies. I only had baby oil on hand so I did make a couple scrubs from them to try. I don't sell my stuff so my friends will have to suffer through this first batch. I tried them and since I only used it on my body and not face- it seemed okay. But didn't really soften my skin like scrubs I buy. I will try one of the other oils next time. No matter what - it can't be as expensive as the scrubs you buy in the store!

  8. I just started making lotions and scrubs for hobby. I give my stuff away so I have to keep supplies reasonable. I was using sweet almond oil for scrubs but that was getty pricey. Is baby oil okay to use?

Also- sometimes I mix sugar and salt in my scrubs- what kind of salt do you use and where do you get it

    Thanks

  9. While I have dabbled in crafts for awhile( mostly wood painting or jewlery making)- I have decided to make candles and other soap crafts. I have had some good success with scrubs and lotion bars but would like to make facial cleanser. I am trying to turn my hobby into useful gifts to cut costs on what I actually buy. I am a mature( nice word) for older woman (53) so I use facial wash like Olay for aged skin. I use plain coconut oil for moisture which works great.

Anyways- can somebody recommend a good receipe for facial cleanser. I am not opposed to starting with a base and adding stuff.

Thank you- and good thing I have lots of friends to make this stuff for since I am hooked.
