  1. Vickie also told me to add 6 oz. of water to 10 oz of product and blend well with hand mixer. I did, and it still would not blend together. After 5 minutes it still had the cottage cheese appearance. I was also concerned about adding so much addt. water to a product, it kinda sounds like a mold magnet to me. Anyway she kept going back and forth from it being a new formula to the manufacturer botched the batch. It seemed to me like they just didn't want to give me a refund. I would be content with a thicker formula, but not the cheesy slop it was. Anyone else having problems with this stuff?? TIA.
  2. Thank you guys, I was hoping to find double wall rounded so I would have to redesign all of my labels! It seems like all I can find are single wall blue jars or low profile. Thank you though, for your help and direction.
  3. Is there any chance anyone has seen this type of DW 4 oz blue jars during your internet travels? I ended up with a huge lot last year from someone's business close out and I'm almost out. I can only find white ones. THANK YOU! :rolleyes2
  4. Thank you! I also ordered some from the Candlemaker. I got fed UP with the other Soy Whip. I melted it down and added the water, it looked ok at first when it cooled, then I took the hand mixer to it and got the same gloopy mess. Pooh.
  5. FYI, Vickey had another customer with my problem, and she called the manufacturer. He said they didn't put enough water in the last batches. I'm going to try adding distilled water and see what happens. Email her if you need instructions to remedy. Her other customer said it worked.
  6. That's what I couldn't figure out. At first she said the last batches had too much water per the manufacturer. I think that's what I got. I am trying not to panic, but I am also leary of ordering any more. I guess I'll wait and see if you guys run into any problems. THANK you for the backup idea, I needed it to keep my sanity!!! What little is left. I was trying to put this stuff into jars and I must have broken 20 freezer bags. It's awful. Anyhoo, thank you thank you and THANK YOU! I'm off to order in a hurry.
  7. I usually whip my batch 5 minutes. I kept mixing this batch for 25 minutes and it was still chunky cheesy. I added Body Glaze and mixed for another 10. Now it was globby chunky cheesy. It also looks really bad in the clear jars I use, like its old or something. Oh bother says Pooh Bear......
  8. Well, I've been using this base now for a year, and it's my best seller. I know what it should be like, but it isn't. Vickey said the manufacturer put too much water in the last batch, it is VERY thick and cottage cheesy. I've blended it, added Body Glaze on batches up to 50% added, melted down and still comes out with the same consistency. I just don't have weeks to play Bill Nye the Science guy, like I said I have a craft show next week and don't have the time to munk with this. I'm close to tears on this one, I know Murphy's Law ;-) Thank you for your quick reply!
  9. Does any know of a close 2nd? I'm in a major muddle, I have a craft show next week, and this stuff is my best seller. The two jugs I bought last month aren't working for me at all. Vickey said they went back to some old thicker formula that everyone likes better? Help! ~ TIA
  10. Thank you Yellow Rose! Yes I mean Virgin & Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. Sorry to sound disconbobulated, I paid for Virgin Coconut Oil and she sent me Extra Virgin. Somewhere on the boards, everyone was talking about the difference between Virgin Olive Oil and Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Many replyed you should not substitute one for the other. I was wondering if the same rule of thumb applied for other oils. Thanks again, you all are so helpful!! Julie
  11. I did a search and cnl the answer. I purchased VCO off of Ebay (I'm still in testing not selling mode) so I opted for less $$ oil. Her auction said Virgin CO, but she sent me Extra Virgin CO. She said it would not affect my lotion or soap recipe. Any thoughts. I know somewhere I read on the boards you should not sub out Virgin Olive Oil for Extra Virgin, they have different properties. I would hate to ruin a recipe over misinfo. Thank you ! Julie:grin2:
  12. Sorry another newbie question. I have searched far and wide with no luck. Since the FO's say do not put directly on skin, do I need to mix with a carrier oil if I am giving to a customer in the little glass vials for a scent sample? Thank you, Julie
  13. Wow, ask and you shall recieve! Thank you for giving me an outline of what to expect. I guess I started wondering while reading about getting insurance, they said you will have to supply notes of research and development of your products, and I wondered if you had to show all that to a buyer. I really appreciate, since my eyeballs are going to fall out from reading forum posts back to the discovery of soap.......
  14. Greetings all, I have been unable to find this information on the board, so I'll ask. I have a woman who would like to sell my handmade and premade base bath and body products in her salon. What information do you supply buyers with? A catalog of your products? Ingredient lists (besides the label) Business license copy? etc. And if you DO make some of your products from premade bases do you then supply them with the info from the company you buy from? Thank you for your input you all are very very helpful! Julie:D
  15. Hello again you crazy helpful people! I was watching the video on youtube from www.coastalscents.com on making whipped shea butter. I've been lotioning for a few months, but have not run across 2 of her ingredients : boron nitride and silica powder. They are OOS on her website and I can't find any info on them on the boards or googling. They don't seem easy to come by. Do you all know of any substitutes? I did find one lotion crafter say she might sub boron for cornstarch, so I assume I can use my Dry Flo. Any thoughts, ideas, etc would be greatly appreciated! Julie
  16. Thank you so much for your input! I guess I will have to go back and check recipes. The 2nd batch didn't smell as badly as the first. I will follow your suggestions and see what happens. Many of the ingredients are powder so I really can't stick my head in a bag of Stearic Acid and take a snoot full to see if that's it! Julie
  17. Hello all! I have been working diligently on a lotion base. I have tried several recipes, but end up with a base smell that is hard to cover up with FO. I always end up smelling it over the FO. Any suggestions?? Here is the ingredients I have been using, can you tell me what might cause this and can I replace it? I have requests for a plain lotion with no fragrance. 18. Congratulations Anne! Do you have a website? are you selling on Etsy? a shop? I got bit by the Bath & Body Bug 2 months ago, you and others on this board have been terrific inspiration to us newbies! Good Luck! Julie You never know, we might just see you on the cover of Forbes 500 sometime!
  19. Angi : So, in a nutshell you are saying 1) I need to figure out what works best for me & my schedule & pocketbook 2) and you are lazy:cheesy2: Does that about sum it up?? Thanks again!
  20. Thank you for your very insightful opinion. I think it would be best for me to get the hang of scratch lotions/scrubs, so I can learn what all the ingredients do, and probably crash and burn a few times. I think it's easy to get overwhelmed when starting out and think....."hmmmmm lotion base" sounds alot easier, but you are right, it defeats my purpose. Thanks again!
  21. Thank you for you input! I bought the ingredients to begin from scratch AND a 5 lb tub of The Chemistry Store FBB. I thought I could practice my FO and Colorants with the base, as opposed to ruining my Scratch mix and crying the rest of the day! I just wondered if those of you who sell alot of product find it's cheaper in the long run to buy the base. Thanks again! Julie
  22. I am a newbie here, and would like to thank you all for so much wonderful intell in one spot! I have been unable to locate an answer to this, and apologize if it is posted somewhere else. I am learning to make everything from scratch. Do alot of you use wholesale bases for your lotions & body products? If so, why? What are the pluses for doing this? (besides the obvious answer....easier:cheesy2: ) Thank you again, you guys have really helped easy my fears of lotion venturing !
