  1. Hi, I'm going thru my list of stuff to order. I've got 2 places left to buy from and I'll be set well 3 actually (I need container wax paraffin I only have soy).

I want to get my order in at snowdrift farms for the e-wax and some other stuff (cyclo etc.)

How do you make the frosting for the cupcakes? I've seen a recipe but it calls for using all of WSP's premade stuff and I want to make it from scratch. Or can you do that? I've seen some beautiful cupcakes that I'd love to get my hands on in here lol and for the life of me I can't find a recipe?

One of the recipes I looked at calls for sls. Is that sodium lauryl sulfate? Sorry for all the questions I just want to get the rest of the stuff I need ordered and start playing instead of seeing a recipe and going oh jeez I could make that if only I had (insert missing item here).

And what is "dry flo" ?

    Thanks everyone!!

  2. It's been my experience, that if you have a large/heavy order, call them and place the order via phone, they can then give you an exact shipping quote....internet shipping calculators are not accurate for large orders.

    IMO

    Carrie

I did place it on the phone! She (the woman who took my order) gave me a total then they sent my invoice charged my card and charged me more for shipping. I've emailed them twice they ignored me. Instead they sent me a newsletter?

It's not so much the extra $$ in shipping as being ignored. I'm not trying to be petty but I could have ordered the same stuff from WSP for $20 less with their shipping discount.

I'm glad you got a great order. I'm not putting down their stuff, however I will never order there again. Never have I been ignored when asking about being overcharged from any company. Maybe I should call them tomorrow? They can't ignore me on the phone.

Sorry didn't mean to hijack your thread. I am so happy you're excited about your order. :) I am sorry I vented in your thread, it just bugs me and I was curious if I was the only one they get an extra $10 or $20 from. It really makes me upset. They lied and charged what they wanted to my card. What if it made me go over the credit limit and I didn't know it? I mean you don't give a person a total then charge whatever you feel like charging. Right?

Again sorry to hijack your thread.

  3. Shipping anything with alcohol with out all your hazmat stuff in order will get you large fines and possible jail time.

I apologize I did not see the original recipe called for vodka! That would be illegal. lol I'm sure even with the fragrance oil some people would try eating them (I've heard of people drinking worse to get drunk).

The hazmat is probably a problem, but if you google that word that department shows up and you can email them and ask them a general question. I gave them the recipe using ispropyl alcohol 91% proof and asked about shipping these. lol curiousity killed the cat but like Stephen King said "Satisfaction brought him back".

Sorry for not throughly reading the recipe. :) I always make a mistake at least once a week but I try to learn from it.

  4. I got a reply back. Local states differ, however, as the kind lady who looked up the law stated in her email (she lives in Texas and said she wasn't sure of the laws in my state but I could look them up). However note rubbing alcohol is denatured and therefore unfit for drinking. Her email follows:

"Alcoholic sales laws differ from state to state. I don't know what state you are from, so I can't consult your Alcoholic Beverage Code, but the law is probably not very different from the law in my state of Texas

Here the liquor laws apply to "alcoholic beverages," which are defined in the Code as "alcohol, or any beverage containing more than one-half of one percent of alcohol by volume, which is capable of use for beverage purposes, either alone or when diluted." Rubbing alcohol is denatured to make it unfit for drinking, so it would not qualify as an alcoholic beverage, and the liquor laws would not apply.

In the case of your project, I would probably be more concerned with the safety issue. Isopropyl alcohol is very inflammable. You might want to contact the Consumer Product Safety Administration to make sure your product is safe and legal."

She then gave me contact info for the Consumer Product Safety. I'll email them as well as my state, but I am almost sure that denatured alcohol is ok to sell. I do agree that the flammable part is what I'd be concerned with.

  5. Are you sure isopropyl alcohol falls in the same category as vodka? I have bought 20 bottles of it at a time at walmart, rite aid, any place I can find it and never had anyone question me. It's great for preventing infections in cuts etc and I keep it as part of my first aid kit and always have it on hand. It is flammable. I contacted the alcohol tobacco and firearm division and asked them if it would be illegal to sell this in a product. I told them it was for ornaments similar to yankees gel ornaments and it was going to be used to prevent mold. I'm waiting to hear their response.

You are probably right tho. I was just hoping. this would be awesome for making gel ornaments.

How do people get away with it in other recipes? There is one for making your own stuff for those lamps. I know they sell it on ebay, I've seen it. Unless they are unaware it's illegal?

Sorry not questioning you, just shocked. Who would drink the stuff?

  6. Sorry, I forgot to mention that little problem...I use E-6000, I get it at Walmart in the craft section where the glues are, like Tacky Glue etc. Using this to glue the magnet on, I haven't had a problem. Hope this helps.

    Jill

Thanks Jill! Just added that to my list of to buy stuff or tomorrow!

  7. I had a hard time with them. They quoted me $70 for shipping then charged me $100. When I contacted them they completely ignored me, even tho they charged my credit card more then they said via the phone.

Did they overcharge you on shipping? I never got the 200lbs weight discount, even after order over 4 cases of wax! :(

  8. what would be the recipe or mix for this? how much fo to how much olive oil? that sounds interesting and cheap to make. Has anyone made this? and what is your opinions? Thanks

I've made this using DPG. It's a bit oily in your warmers but works out fine. The stuff from the store doesn't seem to be as oily (if that makes sense). The stuff from the store seems more waterish type when you pour where as this, when you are done and ready to throw it out because there is no more smell, it leaves a residue in your tart burner and you have to wipe it out with a paper towel (whereas with tarts you just plop em out). Hope I'm making sense?

  9. Isn't there a list of all the FO & Wax sites per state? I did a search and looked and I can't seem to find it.

I'm looking to buy wax (ecosoya pillar blend) and the igi pellets and the only place I can seem to find this wax is at wholesale candle supply store but the shipping is ouch.

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong thread.

I live in Maine, but the ones I've seen in MA that sell wax (candlechem) charge a lot more for the wax then any other site I've seen. Even if I were to pick it up It would still be cheaper to have it shipped from elsewhere.

(I have so far checked candle science, peaks, wholesale candle supplies, just scent and candle wic. bitter creek.) From candle wic I found some waxes at an inexpensive price but I wanted the 2 waxes I mentioned above.

Thanks again anyone that can help!

  10. Just a bit more....you can put a magnet strip on the back of these, or double-sided tape and they can be used in a trash can, under the sink, in a diaper pail, on a filing cabinet, etc. My grandaugthers like the magnet for their lockers at school. I hang them in my closets too and even put a few on my Christmas tree and they were pretty and smelled good too.

thanks for the ideas. I think they'd be a hit for magnets in lockers (and lockers at work).

  11. Too many if's and what if's.

If it were me, I would either donate the glassware to Goodwill or throw them in the trash. All the testing involved for a handful of candles isn't worth it. Especially if you don't know where to start.

Thanks, I agree with you. After reading about gel candles (which is something I DO want to try) it made me a bit nervous to be throwing melted gel in a glass and praying it was the right type of gel and the FO I chose worked with it and the wick was right etc. I am going to try some of Stella's ideas and if it doesn't work out I'm going to donate them to a local church thrift store that charges a lot less to it's clients then goodwill (and my exmotherinlaw works there). She was a godsend when I was losing weight, always picking me up clothes there. Last time I went, it was fill a garbage bag for $2. I made out great. :)

  12. Since they have a logo on them and you are not certain of the glass quality, making a candle would be a poor idea. Perhaps a different craft use would work best if you don't want to donate them to your drinking friends...

Here's some ideas off the top of my head...

Hang 'em upside down with monofilament fishing line and make wind chimes or tree sparklies.

Glue them together into a cone shape with E-6000 or crystal clear Kemxert UV glass glue, throw some colored LED lights in the middle to make a Cosmo Glass Christmas tree.

Half-fill them with colored water to display a single floating candle - maybe on a mantle or long table...

Glue the bottom to a stake and use them as mini-feeders/waterers in your gardens for wild birds & butterflies :)

Thanks! I love your ideas. (Got any ideas for gift bags, I got over 100 of them from work we never used at christmas)

  13. Ginger at flexiblemolds.com will also give you a discount if you order over a certain amount on her site. she'll also do flat rate shipping and also has combine stuff I've won off of ebay and her site. She furthermore has shipped a new cat mold when for the life of me the ears kept breaking off each time I tried making a cat. She told me how to cut the mold so the ear wouldn't break off and volunteered to give me another new mold for free. I think she's great, great customer service, great molds, great friendly person. (No I don't work for her lol) I just think customer service is as important as the product and she's got both beat hands down!

I have over 100 molds of hers.

  14. I received 30 cosmopolitan glasses (I guess they are for marguaritas too) and I am not a drinker. I figured maybe I could use some sort of wax in them.

I was thinking Gel but not sure if they are strong enough nor have I ever made any gel candles. I don't have the room to store 30 cosmpolitan glasses.

I can't sell them, they'd have to be gifts. They have an advertisement for a company on them. It would be sort of tacky to sell a candle that has a name of a product on the glass.

Can anyone think of what I can do with these? I know a lot of my excoworkers wanted them for their bars... but I won't be seeing them for awhile.

I was thinking of doing some sort of sundae with parrafin or soy wax and maybe not having a wick and just letting people have them. But they are not "sundae" glasses.

    Any ideas?

  15. I make the crushed cob sachets and put them in hand sewn bags that my mom makes for me. I can buy the cob local at our feed store 30 lbs for $4.00. I use 1/4 cup cob and 2 tsp fragrance oil and they last atleast 6 weeks to 2 months. I get complaints they are almost to strong at first - lol. They sell like hot cakes for me all year long at $4.00 each. I considered the aroma beads but didn't even test due to the costs. This is a HUGE profit maker for me.

ETS - I package them in a cello bag with a business card type topper stuck with double sided tape. My label is an iron on transfer. This pic is older - my new labels have my business graphics and info.

I never thought of getting them from a feed store. What do you tell them you want to buy? Crushed corn?

  16. Thanks. I chose Mainely Scents.

Even if I leave the state of Maine it should be fine. We are known as "vacationland" and a huge hit for the folks that come here in the summer (or leave here in the winter whichever way you want to look at).

I'd rather be down south to be frank, I miss the 90 degrees days. I haven't had to have A/C on all summer and it's only been 86 at the highest. Now this winter... ouch.. the oil bill will kill us.

I wonder if you can put fragrance oil in your oil tank? :laugh2: lol joking I wouldn't dare... a thoughtful use on some of those nasty scents we buy and don't like.

    Thanks again!

  17. I'm with sliver on this one. People won't really know that it is Love Spell if you name it something else, and people love the scent. It's one of my best sellers. I just use TM or (type).

I agree. Sometimes I have a hard time finding out if someone carries a scent I like because it's been renamed.

  18. I have the following for names sorta, kinda, picked out. I decided onlyscents sounds too much like justscents and I don't like the idea that I may be copying someones idea.

    I live in Maine

    I have:

Pine Tree Scents (bought the domains .com .org .net .info)

Maine Scents (went to buy the domain didn't check out and someone in MA bought it so I got the .net one and .org and .info)

    Maine Scent (got all domains)

I like Maine Scents better but I am afraid someone will type in mainescents.com

And it sounds like Mainely or is it Mainly (?) Scents. Which is someone on here and I don't want them thinking I am stealing their idea.

Maine Scent sounds like one scent.. like a scent a trapper or fisherman would use.

Any ideas? Even if you hate the 3 names above can you think of something to do with Maine? I've spent hours looking for domains and most of them are taken. A lot of the "Maine" ones are in neighboring towns who sell candles or bath and body.

Oh our tree is the "Pine Tree" therefore Pine Tree Scents (there are a lot of Pine Tree (enter name here) in the state

    Pine Tree Legal

    Pine Tree Candles

    Pine Tree Candle Company

    Pine Tree Barn

    etc lol :)
