  1. Sorry to hijack this thread but just wanted to ask Amanda which one of your lines of soaps sell better? Do you have to price differently because of the difference in the price for ingredients or is the price difference not that great? I've priced EOs (and bought a few) and they can be quite costly. I've thought about doing the same thing with my soaps and my candles since I use soy. TIA!:smiley2:

I am not sure which one sells better b/c I just started the second one. There are a lot of eo's that are no more costly than some fo's, have you tried http://www.essentialoils.org/ They have really good prices. Oh, and yes the eo line is priced at $1 more for the same size. Not really b/c of cost as much as effort. I have spent a lot of time researching eo's and nat. colorants. A lot more thought goes into one of those batches as opposed to slaping some fo in and a color that matches the name. HTH

  2. They used to be found in nature. Most are created in labs now, because of lead amoung other unwanted minerals. They are just purer now, and less pricey. I understand your want for using only natural colorants, as I try to do the same. My solution was to have 2 different lines. One that uses fo's and oxides, micas etc. The other uses only natural colorants and eo's.

  3. Boy I have a hard time paying more for shipping than the product itself.. :undecided

    Sub Total $23.95

    Shipping $33.53

    Total $57.48

Just when I was getting into soaping..

Call her or email. Someone else had the same problem, and she said the shipping isnt that much and she will let you know the correct ammount.

  4. Heck yeah it is cheaper. As long as shipping don't kill ya. I'll have to give that a try.

What do you store your lye in when buying bulk? Do you premeasure it all out or put it in a tub...?

I buy cat litter in the big plastic tubs. They have a lid that snaps on, works great.

    ETA

I forgot, I did buy the 50lb. I am planning on saving some of my small red devil cans to fill and use, as opposed to getting into the big bucket everytime.

I also wanted to add that I really doubt that calling red devil's company will fix anything. Sales are slow because places are banning it because of meth. Red Devil is not the only company that makes lye, soaping will still survive. Some people will have to just bite the bullet and buy in larger sizes.

  5. I don't like it honestly.

I just dont understand why so many people need half naked people in their logos. I am not a prude, I just dont want my stuff to sell b/c of sex. I want a nice pro logo that gets their attetion, gets them to buy. They will come back once they have had it. :wink2: I think the nudity is a gimmick at best, and a parody at worst. I can't think of any other company (big company) that used half nakid woman in its logo. Playboy makes it living off of sex, and it uses a bunny rabbit.

  6. Ok, that list was from Aromatherapy for Dummies by Kathi Keville, laugh if you want but its a very informative book. According to The Aromatherapy Companion by Victoria H. Edwards, baby safe EO's are

    Bois de rose

    Chamomile

    Dill

    Eucalyptus

    Fennel

    Lavander

    Mandarin

    Neroli

    Peppermint

    Rose

Personally, I wouldnt do peppermint its very easy to put too much and burn skin, expecally if it's sensitive, but thats just MHO

  7. Not sure about you question, haven't started testing yet. However, the only EO"s safe for babies are Chamomile and Lavander.

    ETD

Ok, just went and checked one of my books. It says Eo's for pregnant woman and young children should be half the usual adult dose, babies use 1/4 the normal adult dose. EO's that are ok for young children are

    Chamomlie

Citruses (make sure they are properly diluted, citruses can burn young skin)

    Frankincense

    Geranium

    Jasmine

    Lavender (but not stoechas lavander)

    Neroli

    Rose

    Sandalwood

    Spearmint

    Ylang ylang

I would really reccomend getting an EO/aromatherapy book (or 3) if you are going to be working w/ EO's. There is a whole big list of stuff thats not safe for pregnant woman (depending on the trimester) childrent etc. Also, you want to be careful of citruses because some can cause photosensitivty (sp?)

  8. I just wanted to second what Robin said, there are different forms fo Cyclo out there. I used to use TDF's cyclo, but am switching to a different(more expencive :rolleyes2) companys because the feel is better. NOT saying TDF's is bad though. Anycase, I haven't really found any FO's that dont blend, but I have found a few that discolor the liquid and/or bottle. So from now on, I am doing my testing in clear and selling in the aluminum (sp?) One that comes to mind is bay rum. OH, SC vanillia ate the bottle, so I dont do that one...
