  1. I get my citric acid at the local co-op. It's a small natural and organic grocery type store that sells just about anything you would need from organic coffee to essential oils to citric acid. I pay about $4.50 a pound and dont have to wait or pay for shipping. Ive never checked the price online so I dont know if thats too much or a great deal, but it sure is convenient!

  2. Just wondering what others offer for easter, both candles and soaps....

I am thinking of offering candles with the cookie cutter cutouts of eggs, bunnies, crosses, etc for candles and a few special scents for soap; both cp and m&p. Other than that I am stuck..

Hopefully someone will spark my imagination with their creativity.

Thanks in advance for all responses.

  3. I am trying to rebatch a few batches of soap that I made about 6 months ago. Ive tried the crockpot and the oven and neither worked (both browned and didnt melt). I added some additional oil because they are fully cured bars. BTW, I shaved them to very fine shreds.

Any info or assistance on how or if I can rebatch old soap would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reading and hope to hear from some of you experts soon!!

  4. We were having some work done on our house so we stayed with my mom in her apartment for a short time and I had orders to complete before the work was done so I brought the minimimum I needed with me to my moms. That was a BIG mistake. Her neighbor knocked on the door every day freaking out about the "stench" that was going into the hallways. She got the landlord involved and he told me to stop because he was sick of her calling him. (He then bought some of the candles...lol). If you have crabby or elderly neighbors I would make sure they are okay with it so they dont go screaming to the landlord.

  5. I package each order myself....that way I can put in a burning instructions sheet (1/4 sheet actually). I also add a 25% off coupon into each bag to try for more return customers. It has worked so far. I use the white lunch bags, print a small (1/6th of a page) slip that I staple to each one with the sellers name, purchasers name, and the order that way the sellers just have to deliver.

  6. In your opinion, who has the TRUEST smelling bay rum, Im talking the retro manly scent from decades past.

I need a good one cuz I have really "seasoned" guys that wear that fragrance that want it in a soap. (By seasoned I mean 87 yrs old and 84 yrs old).

    TIA for any input.

  7. I thought I would let you guys know of my experience with the vanilla stabilizer....

I used it with Bert's Eggnog FO. The first batch I made withouth the stabilizer and it turned DARK brown. The second batch that I did use it in didnt discolor at all. Im sorry I cant post pics right now (mom borrowed the digital camera to take to Mexico). I will try to post pics when she gets back.

    HTH someone!

  8. I really think it all depends on where you live. It is true, shipping a small amount with UPS is overly expensive, but I think BCN has changed the policy to not ship FOs with USPS is a safety precaution, whether it is forced by the PO or not.

I live about 150 miles from BCN and can get a case of wax shipped from them to me for just over $18 because thats what UPS charges. I have ordered less than 2 lbs before also and had to pay nearly half of that. UPS expects large packages and they make more $$ on the small ones to help them with the shipping for the larger ones.

Dont be too mad at BCN, mistakes happen. Why they werent going to give you a refund for their mistake with over charging for their products suprises me, they are some of the nicest people I have ever dealt with. Maybe a short chat/pm/email to Doneen might help.
