The flower has a very short life once harvested. I was in Borneo 2 years ago and the air was thick with the smell of ylang ylang. I went for a walk to find the source and there it was an enormous ylang ylang tree. The flowers are a greenish yellow and their scent can be smelled for blocks. I picked some of the flowers and brought them back to my room, and with 6 hours they started turning black. You can buy the seeds, but the climate is not right here for the tree. The only area that they would thrive is in the tropical south and Hawaii. It is probably one of my favorite scents.
