  1. Thank you all for your input..... I'm looking at the tin right now, and it says 100% pure olive oil, imported from Italy.... it was packaged in NY state, I didn't see any american rating on the oil like GA was talking about. It is true that OO is expensive, this tin wasn't, that's why I suspected that it was expired when I smelled a very different oder, but since it doesn't reak... then I suppose it must be ok, Thank you again! Melissa

  2. I bought a 3L tin of OO for 11.99 at the grocery store. It said imported from Italy, thought it was a great deal. Once I got it home and opened it, it smelled very sweet, but not a nice sweet smell IMO, completely different from any other OO's I've smelled before. I made 2 bathches of soap with it. The first one was with peppermint EO, worked out great, but the second was with a FO, and it totally morphed and the smell of the soap really stinks to me... could this oil be expired, and sabotaging my soap?

  3. I was thinking... TOOTH SOAP! Stevia's apparently good for your teeth, unlike other sweeteners... and came across a tooth soap thread on the Dish. So I'm thinking peppermint and stevia...

Thanks for sharing that info, I'm reading through a thread on the dish right now. I am a Dental Assistant (although stay home now that I have a family) I've been looking into making natural toothpaste...tooth soap is such a cool idea.:D

  4. I've been looking into HP and LS, and I REALLY want to try making a batch of one or the other in my crockpot. Maybe this is a no brainer question, but if I make a batch of soap in it does that mean that I can't ever use it again to make pot roast? I was thinking that since the soaponification happens during the cook, than the lye should really effect the pot too bad... am I wrong? If so... I think I could do with out pot roast

  5. I'm still pretty new my self, so I don't have a tried and true recipe to give you, since I'm experimenting my self... I bought my shea butter from KB since I just wanted 1lb to get started, but eventually I'd love to order from the below site.... I'd like to buy as many things fair trade as possible, since women in underdevelloped countries need to support their children just like we do. http://www.agbangakarite.com/whole_bulksheabutter.php

  6. Thanks everyone! I haven't felted soap yet! It's on my list. I just started playing around with knitting looms lately and I am amazed with all that you can make with them! I highly recommend the book "The Loom Knitting Primer" by Isela Phelps. I hear she is coming out with another book in February! :yay: I can't wait! I am hoping I can loom knit a little bag for my soapies.....I have about every KK loom there is, plus the In The Attic mitten loom, so ONE of them should work! LOL

You could totally knit bags for your soaps!:yay: I haven't tried knitting with looms, just needles, but it looks easy. I'm glad you posted this... it's got me thinking :cheesy2: .

  7. I swirl in the mold after pouring with a one inch spatula. :)

Ok, good to know. I'll have to try the spatula thing next time..... I've tried a couple different ways to swirl, getting good at swirls is certainly a process :)
